Chapter 476: The Torturer

The harbinger was willing itself to attack but in the face of the power that seemed to remind it what fear felt like, it was frozen in place.

Kiro felt better than he had ever felt in his life.

"Let her go and I’ll grant you the quickest of deaths." His voice sounded a little distorted like a thousand people were speaking all at once.

The harbinger seemed to be gathering its courage to stand its ground. The eye that exploded was slowly regenerating, with the distance between them, Kiro could see the nerves in the socket working overtime.

"I-I can’t... won’t, I won’t. Would I really be a general if I gave up my area that easily?"

Kiro smirk, he could see it all now, the eyes, his staff had given him a peek at a realm he knew human eyes weren’t allowed to peek.

"The first instinct would be of course to rip her out of that egg but I can see it, every single vine connected to her heart, that would kill her."

It was shown on the general’s face, his analysis was spot on. Its eyes darted from the egg to Kiro at amazing speeds. It realised that it still had a card to play, so it stood more confidently than a second ago.

"I could wait for it to hatch of course but who knows how many other generals are there."

The harbinger spat in absolute disgust.

"Me? Need help to defend my territory? You may as well smear feces all over my head."

"Is that like your biggest dishonour in harbinger world?"

"Of course, my lord gave me this land and I will protect it with my life. I will die before I let anybody else tarnish his judgement of me."

"The other option is to kill you, I’m really glad for how proud you generals are. Now I can kill you in peace and maybe even hunt other generals, that will no doubt close the portals."

He was so sure of it. Their god couldn’t act on his own until they completely overran a world, that’s why he had minions that used the space they were in as a go-between, they most likely thought they would connect the portals to earth but Kronos was one step ahead and created the game to act as another go-between.

The pride of being a harbinger, a general was clearly much greater than the fear of the power in front of it because at the mention of its god, its conviction only grew.

Kiro knew he wouldn’t get anything useful from it again, but defeating it here was the only option and looking for other territories no matter how many to close the portals was the only way to stop the war altogether.

So not bothering to converse any further he blinked once, appearing from behind the enemy when it turned to face him he blinked once again to the side and threw a punch, catching it square in the jaw.

Before the awakening of his staff, he wouldn’t have dared to play with fire like this but the power surging throughout his body made him feel invincible. Sure enough, the harbinger that was very hard to move before, stumbled backwards at his punch, its eyes wide with surprise.

Kiro didn’t give it time to adjust or strategise as he grabbed one of its limbs and forcefully bent them the other way, the scream that followed almost popped Hiro’s ears to hell.

"How nice of you to have eight of these." Kiro said with a sadistic smile attempting to imitate it. "How long do you think it will take for it to heal?" He asked as he grabbed another doing the same thing.

"Please, just kill me." The general begged.

Kiro moved his index finger from left to right, "ncncnc, remember you don’t get to escape to death that easily. Yours will be slow and painful."

He talked while he did, he intended to break all its limbs, wait for them to heal and do it all over again. It was not as though he enjoyed torturing but it was the principle, he had promised it slow and painful death, what kind of man would he be if he didn’t deliver on his promises.

Hubris watched with the utmost pride at the power shown by his master. Solar opposites of the Kiro that let himself be poisoned by a parasitic organism, this was the master Hubris swore to follow, the master he would give his life for without a second thought.

When the eight limb’s bone snapped the harbinger passed out.

Hiro was much closer now, far away from the egg. His best friend looked like something out of a fantasy novel but more than the power he was afraid it was changing him, he never took Kiro for someone who would take pleasure in torturing others, even if those others were the enemy.

"Don’t you think he’s had enough? Why are we even wasting time here, there are other generals he said. We should be looking high and low for them."

He didn’t feel sorry for the harbinger, not at all but he also did not want to lose his best friend to something like this. While they never have been in a war before, there were history books, he knew what it can do to a person.

"Worried for me?" Kiro smiled at him, sincerely.

"Well I mean, there are other generals..." He mumbled as he refused to admit it.

Kiro chuckled, "yes there are but we don’t know where they are, whether they’re in this space too or whether their job is the same as this one here. He will talk eventually, don’t worry Hiro I’ll make sure of that."

Hiro nodded in understanding, he couldn’t believe he doubted his reasons for a second. Of course he wanted to save Isla, he wanted to save their world.

It didn’t take long before the harbinger gained consciousness. Like a man on a mission, Kiro did what he had to, he didn’t ask the harbinger anything just inflicted as much pain as humanly possible.

"I-I-I’ll tell you whatever you want please just kill me."
