Chapter 473: We Wait

Kiro felt warm and comfortable. In his mind, he was in his bed back home, it was a lazy day and he laid there not wanting to move. His mind was unconsciously waiting for Alora to blast through his bedroom door, waking him up before he wanted to.

Like a predator patiently waiting for the prey to let its guard down before pouncing for the soft tender jugular, he hid under his covers, waiting. His idea was to scare her as she walked up to him to shake him awake.

But instead, unimaginable pain suddenly shot through his entire body, the comfort lasted for but a second. The pain caught him off-guard, waited for him to be a little comfortable before striking, he was the prey all along. Kiro let out groans.

The second sense of his that came back was hearing. He could hear two voices arguing, not so far away from him though he couldn’t make out the conversation because the pain was much louder.

Every single word they spat at each other was like a nail to one of his tendons. It wasn’t metaphoric, his sensitivity had risen somehow and now every noise was like his limbs getting severed over and over again.

"Will you both shut the hell up?" He didn’t mean to shout but it came out anyway, which in turn made him suffer greatly. Even his own voice was a weapon against him.

Memories of being opened up like roadkill were slowly coming back to him. He could see his mount’s eyes when he skewered him. Pain snaked through his entire body, he laid there not wanting to move a single muscle. Even opening eyes seemed like a chore to him.

"Is that so? I’m not dead? Hubris, you better run." He said through gritted teeth, not wanting to talk, not wanting to move a single muscle, clearly blaming Hubris for the pain he was going through.

In his mind, Hubris had went back to his rebellious days. He seemed to remember Hubris promising to take him out if he was ever weaker than him, a promise that kept him motivated to always allow himself opportunities to grow stronger.

It wasn’t long before he felt the ground shaking like the sky itself was falling. The phenomenon didn’t feel urgent, which is why he didn’t move a muscle. It was sudden, he felt hands touch him, shaking him violently.

"Kiro? You’re alive?" The voice was Hiro’s, concern plagued it.

"Let go! It hurts!" He shrieked.

"I told you didn’t I? I was not trying to kill my master, the parasite I was removing needed to be taken by surprise."

Hiro shot Hubris a dirty look, he was worried sick. Kiro hadn’t been breathing all this time, he was certain his best friend was dead.

He was out for ten whole minutes and in all that time Hiro danced around the graveyard with Hubris, attempting to get him with his axe while Hubris tried to explain as he was running for his life.

If Hubris had fought back, he was sure one of them would’ve been dead by now. It was a wonder to him how Hiro kept himself from losing his mind with the way he chased him around like a complete maniac.

Hiro had genuinely thought Kiro had been killed, after Hubris attacked him, removing the parasite that made his knees buckle in disbelief, everything went blank for him. He didn’t remember much other than the rage that drove him.

It was his fortune, or maybe a testament to his mental strength that Kaos didn’t swallow him whole in his berserker mode. He was still crouching down, holding his best friend, his eyes slowly regaining life.

"I’m sure Master will understand." Hubris mumbled, walking closer and sitting besides Kiro.

"Understand? I do understand but I’m sure you also understand that you owe me a gut punch. Just one." Kiro finally said through gritted teeth as he pushed himself off of an almost crying Hiro.

His body seemed to be recovering well, the pain was not so bad anymore, as he could move.

The sound that felt like an earthquake from before were just their footsteps running to him, with the parasite gone his senses were very sensitive all of a sudden. He could feel and hear everything and now his body was starting to get used to it which is why the pain was subsiding too.

The darkness that surrounded them a few minutes ago seemed to have vanished, not entirely, Kiro could now see how bright the world actually was. It was something their eyes weren’t meant to see, but here he was squinting his minds eye just to see properly.

"This world is so noisy," He said, more to himself.

Hubris and Hiro looked at each other, clearly confused because they had never experienced this kind of silence before. No wind, no tree branches crackling, no crickets, no birds just silence under the dark sky. Yet he was saying it was noisy.

Kiro slowly got to his feet. His ligaments screamed in complaint, he was even shaking like his own legs would give up on him at any minute, as though his body weight was twice as heavy and they couldn’t support it anymore.

He felt something pushing on his side, it was Hiro taking his arm and putting it over his shoulders, offering him support. He smiled and nodded in appreciation.

He was looking straight at the oval shaped coffin except now it didn’t look so grim anymore. With Hiro as his support they slowly walked up to it, he was close enough to touch it and so he did.

"She’s alive. I can hear it, it’s faint, the heartbeat."

They all looked at the same direction, of course for the two nothing had changed. Hubris also had no idea how they would extract her from the egg.

"Master, do you have any idea what we should do?"

Kiro nodded with a smile, "we wait for the egg to hatch."
