Chapter 388: Chapter 388: A Swift Battle

Ye Chutang thought this man was utterly clueless, so she decided to stop wasting time.

"That arrow a moment ago—you were the one who shot it, weren’t you?"

The man had no idea why Ye Chutang would suddenly ask such a question. He sneered, "So what if it was?"

’Ye Chutang only managed to knock down his arrow earlier because she caught him by surprise. But this time—she wouldn’t get the chance!’

Ye Chutang nodded. Then, she tilted her head slightly and looked at Shen Yanchuan.

"Princely Heir, may I borrow your sword?"

Shen Yanchuan raised an eyebrow, but without any hesitation, he handed over the sword from his waist.

It was heavy in her hand, with a satisfying heft.

Ye Chutang gave it a closer look. The blade was drawn, gleaming like snow and wickedly sharp, its cold glint intimidating.

Just by looking at it, one could almost feel the biting, frosty killing intent emanating from the longsword!

A satisfied smile curved at the corners of Ye Chutang’s lips.

’Shen Yanchuan really does use only the best.’

"Thanks,"

she said as she shifted her feet slightly. Her slender, pale fingers slowly tightened around the black hilt.

Shen Yanchuan could see what she was planning to do, and so could the assassins.

They looked as if they had just heard the most ridiculous joke.

"How presumptuous!"

’Her? She actually thinks she can fight us!?’

Ye Chutang seemed not to hear their mockery. She stared ahead with a placid expression, but a dark shadow settled deep within her eyes.

For some reason, the lead assassin’s heart skipped a beat.

Ye Chutang said in a low voice, "Who you’re here to kill has nothing to do with me. Unfortunately for you, you laid a hand on someone you shouldn’t have."

Shen Yanchuan felt as if a feather had gently brushed against his heart.

He automatically ignored the first half of her sentence and nodded. "Then I’ll leave that one to you."

The implication was that he would handle the rest.

But Ye Chutang seemed to recall something and added, "Leave one for A Feng."

’That kid has probably bottled up a ton of frustration. He needs a chance to let it out.’

Shen Yanchuan paused for a moment. "Alright."

’These men are extraordinarily skilled. If Ye Yunfeng can’t handle it, it won’t be too late for me to step in.’

The two of them discussed the matter in an orderly fashion, like they were divvying up loot, showing absolutely no regard for their opponents.

Who could possibly stand for such treatment?

The leader sneered. "Arrogant fools! I’ll send you both to your deaths today!"

The moment the words left his mouth, he abruptly released the bowstring. The poisoned arrow shot out in an instant, flying straight for Ye Chutang!

They were extremely close to each other, and the arrow had been drawn with immense force. In the blink of an eye, it was right before her!

Ye Chutang’s expression remained unchanged. With a flick of her slender, fair wrist, she swiftly struck with the sword!

SHING—!

A flash of brilliant light sliced through the air!

Shen Yanchuan’s eyelashes fluttered slightly.

He had never seen Ye Chutang take the offensive before. Even that night at the mines, she had merely relied on her exceptional agility and footwork to escape unscathed.

He had long suspected that her abilities went far beyond that, especially since she had borrowed his sword today and chosen to face these assassins.

And yet, the moment Ye Chutang struck, he realized he had still underestimated her.

CLANG!

A sharp, clear sound rang out as Ye Chutang parried the arrow with her sword!

The sharp arrowhead slammed into the blade, but the immense force behind it failed to push it any further. Instead, its trajectory was instantly altered, and it plunged harmlessly into the ground.

The assassins were all stunned, their eyes filled with utter disbelief.

They had all assumed that Ye Chutang had only been able to save Shen Yanchuan because she’d had the element of surprise, especially since that arrow hadn’t even been aimed directly at her.

But now—

they had officially clashed, and Ye Chutang had actually gained the upper hand!

"Time is short, and we have a lot to do," Ye Chutang said, tilting her head slightly. "Princess Qingyang and her retinue should be here soon."
