Chapter 385: Chapter 385: Danger
Ye Yunfeng nodded nonchalantly. "Yep. Since we couldn’t beat them, we ran!"
He said it so casually.
But Lian Zhou and the others exchanged a look, inwardly alarmed.
They had witnessed the assassins’ skills firsthand, and even they couldn’t be certain of escaping completely unscathed.
Yet these two brothers were completely unharmed and spoke of it so matter-of-factly, as if it hadn’t been difficult at all.
Ye Jingyan glanced at them and added, "Life was hard back then. You have to have some skills to stay alive."
The single sentence was spoken so lightly, yet it hinted at untold hardship.
Shen Yanchuan said, "It’s late. Since you haven’t returned, they’ve likely guessed something has happened back at camp."
The implication was that this would surely make Ye Chutang worry.
Ye Yunfeng smiled. "Don’t worry about that. We already sent our companion back ahead of us."
No wonder it was just the two brothers here.
Shen Yanchuan raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure he made it back safely to deliver the message?"
Ye Yunfeng froze, his expression faltering. "He... should have, right?"
Everyone who came today was either a scion of a noble family or a talented young martial artist, and Yao Gai was no exception.
If nothing else, he should have been capable enough to get back and deliver a message.
But looking at the formidable-looking group before him, Ye Yunfeng felt a flicker of uncertainty.
He instinctively looked to Ye Jingyan. "Third Brother?"
Ye Jingyan, however, remained composed. "It’s fine," he said calmly. "We’ll just head back a little earlier. Let’s not make our sister worry."
Ye Yunfeng immediately nodded. "Right!"
The two of them had chased the assassin all the way here because they sensed something was off and wanted to get to the bottom of it.
But the assassins were extremely cunning, which was why the brothers were still out here at this late hour.
Lian Zhou asked, "Master, should we dispatch men to escort the two young masters back?"
’Second Miss Ye cares more about these two brothers than anything. If she starts to really worry, then...’
But Shen Yanchuan shook his head. "It’s dangerous in these woods. Just have them stick with us."
There were more assassins than expected, and no one could be sure when or where they might suddenly appear.
Although the two brothers were capable, they wouldn’t stand a chance in a direct confrontation.
Keeping them close was the best way to ensure their safety.
Lian Zhou understood. "Yes!"
Ye Yunfeng didn’t say anything. In matters like this, he always deferred to his third brother.
Ye Jingyan paused only for a moment before agreeing.
"In that case, we thank the Princely Heir in advance."
He knew full well that Shen Yanchuan’s suggestion was the most sensible course of action.
’If those men were split into several groups, then this attack was premeditated and aggressive. Their ability to evade them earlier was likely due to two things: one, luck, and two, the fact that they weren’t the assassins’ original targets.’
’If that group decided to surround them, the outcome would be far less certain.’
Shen Yanchuan’s gaze swept over their surroundings before finally settling in a particular direction.
"Let’s keep going."
Seeing this, the two brothers followed.
Just then, however, Shen Yanchuan abruptly stopped in his tracks and whipped his head around!
Ye Yunfeng froze. Just as he was about to ask what was wrong, a chill shot up from the soles of his feet!
His body went rigid as he slowly turned around.
A pair of cold, ferocious eyes stared at him from within the bushes!
No!
Not just one pair!
In the suffocating silence, a pack of wolves was converging on them without a sound!
Ye Yunfeng’s palms grew numb, and he felt as if the blood in his veins had turned to ice!
