Chapter 2091: Taking Flight

"I didn’t get bigger." Isdis growled as she lifted her arms, allowing Isabelle to measure her once more. She, in fact, did get a bit bigger, half an inch. Which was quite a lot for someone at her age.

"Would you look at that. You gained some weight." Isabelle jumped down from the chair she used to reach toward Isdis’s chest and giggled. "All that sitting down behind a desk got to you, didn’t it?"

Isdis frowned, "That can’t be..." She quickly reached toward the desk, grabbed her clothes, and got the maids to dress her up. "Kory, we should go train a bit in Merlin’s labyrinth."

"Wait a moment, someone is coming toward us, and they are in a hurry." Kory looked at the door, and just a second later, a maid kicked the door open with all of her might. That maid was Rey: "The horde, the green horde... the orcs, they appeared in the Aarctic North."

Isdis frown grew even deeper. "That’s Gojo’s territory..."

"That’s the problem..." Rey stared at her. "Gojo and Lucy are nowhere to be found; they disappeared, and Liliana called for help. If we don’t act, the orcs wouldn’t just consume the north; they’ll invade everything."

A few minutes later, Isdis was already walking through the hallways as fast as she could, having just finished wearing her armor. "What’s of Arad and the others."

"Arad is already out with Gamon. They should have already walled the orcs in, but blocking the rift they are spilling out from won’t be easy. We need Merlin for that, and she’ll need time to work her magic." Ray replied, and Rey looked back at Kory who just caught up to them after getting ready.

"I’m ready; we can leave at once." As Kory jumped to Isdis’s side, Rey and Ray backed away. "There aren’t just a few; there are billions of them, and each orc is as powerful as a giant." As they warned her, the two stopped walking, and only Isdis and Kory stepped out of the keep’s gate into the castle’s courtyard, causing all of the guards stationed at the walls and around the area to stare back.

That was their princess, no, queen. For the past months, she had been holed up in the royal office dealing with the matters of the state, but today, she had finally worn her armor again. Blond with radiant blue eyes, wearing a full suite of silver, heavy plate armor. A rapier at her waist, and a lute strapped to her back.

She was a bard, a knight, a singer, and a dancer, the radiant silver jewel of the empire, Isdis Lior Ruris, The Winter Song.

Then, Kory took a step in front of Isdis, and everyone’s gazes shifted to her. This young, delicate-looking blue-haired maid looked far too innocent and fragile to stand beside the fully armored Isdis, and that was horrifying, as everyone else knew that Kory was far from a harmless girl. freewēbnoveℓ.com

As Kory took a second step, her foot dug into the stone ground, and a crater several meters wide was punched beneath her. She now weighed far more than the castle’s walls do, and looking at her glowing, cat-like eyes, the nature of her existence was clear.

Her neck extended, her arms tore through her dress, and her feet grew massive claws. In the blink of an eye, the delicate maid was nowhere to be seen, and in her place stood a massive white drakaina taller than the keep itself, with arms and legs thicker than the oldest of trees, and a massive jaw that could swallow a whale whole.

An adult white drakaina, it was already too rare to see a dragon this close, and especially a white one, as they only live far north and south, where it snows all year round. The maid had looked fragile before, but now, it was Isdis and the guards who looked breakable beside her titanic, sharp claws and steel scales.

With a single leap, it looked as if Isdis flew, and she landed on Kory’s back with grace, throwing a cold glare down at the guards watching. "If you don’t want to die, hide. Her wings aren’t that gentle."

There were a few dragons that could use magic to fly, like Arad and Gamond, but most dragons still need to flap their wings and flap at harrowing speeds to even hope to lift off. As Kory lifted her massive wings up, all of the guards and servants in the courtyard rushed to hide inside the walls and keep, knowing well that a deadly shockwave was coming.

Like all dragons, Kory was heavy, and to fly off the castle, she needed to be careful. She needed to do two things: jump into the air and flap her wings with enough force to generate lift. The muscles on her arms and legs rolled, and her knees and elbows bent.

Everyone could hear, and her muscles contract and her bones groan like bending steel, and that was their signal to lie down and close their ears if they wanted to live. The sheer strength and extreme violence coming were of a scale that humans can’t imagine until they experience it themselves.

Then, Kory’s muscles snapped, and her entire body moved, jumping as high as fifty meters above the castle walls with enough force to shake the entire capital. As if that impact alone wasn’t enough, it was time for her to flap her wings and generate lift, and that is what she did.

With one flap, her wings that spanned hundreds of feet wide accelerated faster than sound and clapped the air so hard that a deafening shockwave washed over the entire castle like an explosion and then rattled the entire capital. The impact was as powerful as four airplane engines all igniting instantly, at once, and pointing at the ground. Such force was needed to move Kory’s heavy frame across the sky. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Usually, to conserve energy, a dragon would live at the peak of a mountain and then glide down, trying their best not to use their wings as much, and some even use magic to help. Since for hunters, those loud wings are a huge weakness. But today, Kory wasn’t gliding down to hunt; she had to fly Isdis all the way north to the Arctic Kingdom, and to do that, she had to flap her wings, and so, she didn’t hold back.

Why are dragonflies, the bugs, called dragonflies? It was simple, they were named that because they flapped their wings in the same way dragons do. But while those bugs only flap their wings 30 to 40 times a second, a motivated dragon can flap as fast as 100 to 200 flaps a second, turning them into a loud, horrifying engines of pure destruction.

Seeing Isdis fly away on Kory’s back, the people of the capital remained stunned, watching with their mouths open as the clouds parted after their princess burst through them, flying north at blinding speed.

Dragons usually fly -glide- as silently as owls to hunt, so seeing one effectively throw all stealth out of the window for pure speed was horrifying. But the ones who were even more terrified were the nobles, especially those who had their daughters working as private royal maids. They have heard that Isdis had a maid drakaina she uses as a mount, but they also heard that that drakaina’s mother, an even older, more harrowing drakaina, is lurking there beside the emperor, and that the emperor himself is far stronger than even that monster.

What would happen if Kory’s mother took flight like that from the castle? Would that destroy the capital? What of the emperor himself? Can even the continent withstand that? Or would the earth split in half just as he takes off into the sky?
