Chapter 97: My turn now
"No.’’
’’It’s good that you can see the bigger picture... no?" Ryle was so inclined towards believing that Daisy would take his offer that he did not see her refusal coming.
"No,’’ Daisy refused again.
’’Are you that sure about your decision?"
His words, he thought, were convincing enough and so was his logic. He knew she would hesitate but he never thought that she would turn him down. frёewebηovel.cѳm
"I am certain about it.’’
Following Daisy’s refusal, the ride to her apartment was filled with silence. When they reached her place, Ryle stopped Daisy when she was about to step out with Angel. The man alighted the car and walked round it before he opened the door for her.
In the close proximity, Angel got the opportunity to poke and scratch Ryle lovingly a few times.
Ryle looked at the little girl, his stormy mood slowly getting suppressed under her innocent gaze. He patted the little girl’s head, ’’Get well soon, little princess.’’
To his caring words, Angel mumbled some incoherent gibberish as if she was communicating to him like an adult.
"We will leave now,’’ Daisy spoke up.
Ryle’s eyes narrowed as if there was something he wanted to say but in the end, he simply nodded once.
Daisy walked past the man without any hesitation.
His words might be true. It was risky for her in many ways to live alone with Angel and that was more of a reason that she could not even go stay with Maxim and Diana. Diana was a writer by profession and Maxim was a neurosurgeon. Their line of profession was cleaner and so free of enemies that might try to take their lives. And even if she lived with them, she could not stay forever.
The same went with Ryle. Although his words made, but they shared no such relations for which he would go to such extents to help her. And, she, did not want to rely on things that will disappear in a fleeting moment.
How long can she rely on him? And why would she get used to it?
While there were conflicting thoughts in her head, Daisy let her logical side dominate.
When Daisy reached the door of her apartment, she glanced at Angel, ’’We can always try to figure something out before there is a crisis. What do you think?" frёewebnoѵēl.com
Angel blinked at her mother’s question before rubbing her nose in Daisy’s cheek, ’’Mommy... craii...sis?"
Daisy felt her heart lightening up.
’’It’s crisis, my little doll,’’ she said as she stepped inside her apartment.
Daisy had just removed her shoes and walked inside when her face stiffened slightly.
The living room was dimly lit, so dim that she could only see the silhouettes of the things that were not near the only lamp that was shining brightly.
"Come out,’’ Daisy’s grip on Angel tightened as she spoke.
There was no response to her words.
But Daisy knew it was not her paranoia speaking. They had left earlier in a hurry and she was not in the right mind to turn the lights off and she distinctly remembered Ryle leading them out because of urgency of the situation and regardless, he was not a man who would be bothered by such trivialities.
’’I know you are there. Step out,’’ Daisy repeated as she took light footsteps back.
No response again.
She turned around to leave and in that moment, a shadow jumped out from behind the curtains near the balcony, with a gun pointed at Daisy.
’Bang’
Daisy swiftly squatted on the floor as the bullet pierced through the wall right behind her.
In that brief moment, her gaze settled on the person who attacked on her. The man’s head was covered behind a black mask as he aimed his small concealed gun at her.
Daisy’s heart dropped when Angel started crying.
’Bang’
She dodged the bullet and rushed towards the wall while shielding Angel’s body with her own, ’’Hold mommy tight,’’ she mumbled to the little girl to comfort and as if she could understand, she shrunk her entire body in Daisy’s arms.
’Bang’
’Bang’
’Bang’
’Bang’
The man rushed towards Daisy in another attempt to shoot her but as he pulled the trigger, nothing happened. He slapped the pistol on his palm.
’’The model in your hand can only hold 6 bullets at once.’’
The voice behind him made his back rigid because the last time he had looked forward, he had seen Daisy hiding behind the distant wall.
’’You... when did you come here?" the man turned to look at Daisy and his eyes widened when a harsh kick landed on his shin.
"My turn now.’’
The man heard her whispered in a low and calm voice and it sounded like the whisper of a demoness that had crawled out of hell.
The man staggered back with the intense force that he did not see coming and before he could balance himself, another kick landed on his chest. With a swinging force, he fell backwards as the extended edge of the shoe cabinet pierced through the back of his head.
Daisy swiftly buried Angel’s face in her chest as she watched the man’s blood trickling down the cabinet, all the way to stain the white floor. His eyes were still open as he died, as if unaware of what killed him.
Angel had stopped crying at some point and she was calmer than before. Daisy kissed the top of her head as she rubbed her back, looking at the man who was rendered immobile. After she ensured that he was entirely dead, she whispered softly, ’’It’s all fine now...’’
Her words were yet to finish when a wave of dizziness washed over her. Daisy pressed a hand on the side of her head. From the corner of her eyes, she caught glimpse of a fog that was discreetly dispersing in the air not from one place but from every corner of the house.
