Chapter 60: Insufferable jerk

Once they were settled inside, Ryle draped the overcoat on the mother and daughter, reclining the seat back into a more comfortable position.

Daisy leaned her head back in a more relaxed posture and watched the man fussing around before he eventually went back to the driver’s seat.

He promptly turned off the AC in the car and double-checked if the seatbelt was secured properly around the mother and daughter. free𝑤ebnovel.com

And throughout the process, Daisy could not take her eyes off the man. She was amused to some extent but also curious.

When Ryle was finally satisfied with everything, he straightened up in his seat. It was only then that he felt a piercing gaze on him.

He raised his head and his eyes met with Daisy who was leaning back on her seat, a few tresses of her hair became loose and fell on her face, her eyes seemed heavy as she blinked slowly as if she could doze off at any point but she was staring at him intently.

She did not look away even when their gazes met.

"What is it?" Ryle could not help but ask.

Daisy shook her head slowly, closing her eyes. Her face was still indifferent but her voice grew soft, "You are different."

"Different from what?" Ryle placed an elbow on the steering wheel, propping the side of his face on his palm while he looked at the woman in amusement.

"Different from what I thought you were," Daisy mumbled. freewёbnoνel.com

"What did you think I was?"

"An insufferable jerk."

Ryle’s lips twitched, "I assume now you think I am not an insufferable jerk?"

Daisy opened her eyes slightly, "You assume too much. I still think that you are a jerk."

"__"

"But I just don’t find you insufferable anymore."

Once she finished speaking, the woman closed her eyes again, as if she had not stunned him with every word and action of hers throughout the night.

Just when Ryle thought that just like Angel, Daisy had dozed off too, her voice came again, "You can call Maxim and ask him which hospital he has taken Diana to."

Ryle nodded and pulled out his phone to call Maxim. The man did not answer the call for the first time. It was only on the third call that Maxim answered the call.

After talking to him, Ryle turned towards Daisy, "They are at the..." he trailed off when he noticed the woman’s even breathing. She had both her arms securely tucked around Angel as both of them slept peacefully.

Ryle looked at them for another moment before he stepped on the accelerator.

Soon after their car left, chaos erupted at the entrance of the hotel, "Where is the driver?" Alice snapped at her bodyguards.

"You gave him a day off."

"That does not mean he will be unavailable when I need him around. Tell him he is fired!" Without giving them an opportunity to speak, she continued, "Get another car here and drive me somewhere."

Two hours later.

Ryle pulled the car in front of the City Hospital. After parking the car, he turned to look at the mother and daughter duo who were still sleeping. Had he known that both of them would be still sleeping, he would brought his bodyguard’s sedan rather than bringing his own sports car.

But he made sure to drive slowly so that they remained comfortable. Hence the 1 hour drive ended up taking twice the time. However, both were still not showing any signs of waking up.

As he watched them, he noticed how Daisy slept in a stiff position. It was the same position she had closed her eyes in when they were still talking two hours ago. She had not moved her head once and her hands were still snugly wrapped around Angel.

Angel, on the other hand, slept with her mouth wide open, a trail of drool pooled near the corner of her mind mouth, sliding down her cheeks.

Ryle grabbed a tissue and reached out towards Angel but before his hand could come in contact with her face, delicate fingers wrapped around his wrist, locking it in a tight grip.

Daisy’s eyes snapped open the moment she felt some movements near herself. And one of her hands held Angel in a protective hold while the other gripped Ryle’s wrist.

Ryle was momentarily stunned as he saw the wariness in her eyes, "Relax. It’s me," he whispered.

Daisy looked at him for a moment before she loosened her grip on his hand, "What are you doing?"

Ryle sighed before dabbing the soft tissue on Angel’s face as he wiped her drool.

Daisy quietly observed his actions.

"We have reached," the man declared.

Inside a VIP room of the City Hospital.

"I am fine. Trust me," Diana’s helpless voice greeted their ears when they entered the room.

"Do you need a peeled apple?" Maxim was speaking in a honeyed tone, almost as if the moment his tone got high, Diana would be scared.

"Trust me, Warner. I don’t need a peeled apple, nor do I need peeled orange or grapes. I am completely fine."

"But..."

"Bro, let her breathe at least. Do you have to be so fussy?" Ryle clicked his tongue.

"What did the doctor say?" Daisy sat beside Diana, adjusting Angel’s head on her shoulder.

"The doctor said that I am completely fine. What else?" Diana reached out to take Angel from Daisy and placed the girl on the bed, "Let her sleep beside me."

"Then why were you unconscious?" Daisy questioned.

"They had put some fragrance in the room. I could not keep my eyes open for long..."

Even before she could finish her words, a warm palm enveloped hers. Everyone present in the room could see the fear on Maxim’s face.

It was as if he was afraid of what would have happened if they reached there a moment later.

Diana sighed helplessly but she stroked the back of his hand with her thumb, "But it was not harmful. Both me and the baby are completely fine."

"That’s good," Ryle approached them.

It was only then did Diana noticed that Ryle and Daisy had come to visit her together. And that too, when Daisy was not even disguised as Dexter.

She had been too focused on Maxim to notice it earlier.

Diana looked at Daisy but from Daisy’s face, nothing seemed amiss. So, her cover was definitely not blown yet.

"I bet Maxim has yet to ask you how you got to that room and what exactly. Care to spill?" Ryle pulled the chair and sat next to Maxim.

As much as he knew his friend, the man only had one weakness. Diana. And now that she was pregnant, he was more so blinded than anything else. Given how he was fussing around about peeling fruits, Ryle was certain that the man did not even know what exactly transpired.

And just as he had guessed, it was the truth.

Since the moment Diana opened her eyes, Maxim has been fussing around about her.

"Why did you go there?" Daisy was also curious about it.

Diana frowned.

Back at the party, she had left Daisy with Lu Xian when the man had approached to talk to her. After talking to a few socialites, she went to a corner to call Maxim so that she could go to the room where he and Angel were resting.

But suddenly, a waiter bumped into her, spilling alcohol on her dress. She was so startled that the phone slipped from her hand.

The waiter kept apologizing to her with trembling hands. However, just as she reached to pick her phone up, the man dropped the tray in his hand. Diana backed away in time but the tray fell on her phone, the drinks spilling on it. At that point, she had not thought much about it. The man kept apologizing and she thought he was scared that he would be fired.

After dealing with the waiter, she found an empty room to clean her dress up before she could go looking for Maxim since her phone had stopped working.

"I saw you opening the door for that man and woman. I thought it was you but when you let them inside the room..." Then, Daisy assumed that it was someone else who was wearing a similar dress as Diana. Because as much as she knew her sister, Daisy was certain that Diana would not be going to private rooms with someone at such elite parties, no matter how close they were.

"I did not let them in," When Diana came out of the washroom after cleaning her dress, she heard consecutive knocks on the door.

And the moment she opened the room door, she saw two strangers standing at the door. She was about to question them when the man pushed her back with a huge force. Both the people stepped inside and closed the door behind them.
