Chapter 52: You don’t threaten me, Ryle Harper

After talking to Helian Chen, Daisy left the party hall without staying there for another moment. She had just stepped into the hallway that led to the guest rooms when a few staff members of the Chen Family approached her.

"Elder Miss, do you need us to arrange your dinner?"

"If you want, we can lead you to a room so that you can take some rest. You must be tired after the long journey."

Daisy looked at them, ’’No need.’’

Both the servants bowed to her before retreating.

Even though the hallway was more isolated than the party hall, there were still a lot of people passing by. Daisy kept walking past them until she found herself at the end of the hallway, near a long secluded balcony.

She stepped inside the place and stood near the railings, looking out at the wide expanse of citylights. The balcony was dark but Beijing still seemed to be shining brightly.

’’It seems like Miss Chen is not having a lot of fun around here.’’

Daisy stiffened and turned to the side.

One of the beautiful throne chairs had its back facing towards her. When she stepped inside the balcony, she thought there was nobody else around the place but it suddenly dawned on her that someone else was there too.

Ryle pushed himself to his feet and approached her.

Daisy turned around to look forward, ignoring his presence.

’’You seemed rather surprised when you saw me earlier,’’ Ryle walked to stand right beside her as he looked at her side profile attentively. She looked different from the first time and the second time he saw her.

The first time, she had barged inside his hotel room while running from her father’s men. She was in disguise but he could see how fierce she was. She even seemed excited for what she was about to do, as she was unstoppable. She dared to threaten him, fool the men, and even knock him out on the very same day.

The next time he saw her at the supermarket she seemed startled to see him but still, she denied her identity to the very end. He could still see the hints of fierceness in her from her wedding day.

But today, there was something strange about the woman. She seemed fazed by his presence but she also seemed distracted, upset, or sad. Was it his presence making her feel this way?

When he undertook the responsibility for this event, the driving cause of his decision was Daisy Chen. And he had expected to see her being startled, to be flustered. Not upset or sad. Somehow, it made him feel a sense of discomfort in his chest. Probably because he had never seen her like this before. She had been so domineering in all their encounters.

Daisy did not respond to his words as she kept her gaze on the vehicles on the road. Was she surprised to see him? She was. Was it a good surprise? It was not.

Yet somehow, Ryle’s existence took a backseat in her mind after her conversation with her father. His discreet reminder that she should come back and get involved in the business of the Chen Family lingered in her head, making her uncomfortable with it. freёweɓnovel.com

Ryle quirked a brow as flipped his body and leaned back on the railings of the balcony, his gaze fixated on the woman who had not spared him a gaze after she saw that it was him. The cold expression on her face always seemed so strangely familiar.

’’Won’t you ask the reason why I am here?" Ryle tested.

But the woman did not budge. As she leaned forward, her long ponytail fell in front of her shoulder, stray hair strands caressing her face in the gentle breeze.

Before Ryle could realize it, he had already lifted his hand to remove the tresses from her face.

Feeling his approach, Daisy retreated a few steps back and looked at him warily. Her gaze scanned his hand for any weapon before she looked into his eyes questioningly.

Ryle’s hand froze mid-air.

He looked at his outstretched hand that had just reached out to tuck her hair behind her ears. His gaze was filled with disbelief.

Did he...?

Did he just...?

The fuck!

The woman seemed like a walking and talking disaster. He would not have been shocked if his hand reached out to kill her because she annoyed him.

As he glanced at her, he saw her standing there, gorgeous as she was. Daisy Chen was undoubtedly much more breathtaking than she looked in the pictures, enough to make someone stop in their tracks, and just enough to make him stare at her.

She had that wary look on her face as she looked at him as if he was about to attempt to take her life. And Ryle had the strongest urge to mock her by saying ’Woman, I wished I really intended to harm you as well.’

Yet, somehow no words came out of his mouth. Silence lingered in the air and so did the tension that heightened as she took a step back when he stepped towards her instinctively, his gaze lingering on her lips where a strand of hair grazed her light lip gloss with every gentle breeze of air. But the woman was so on guard against him that she did not bother to remove it, her hands gripping the railings in a wary stance.

’’Daisy Chen...’’ Ryle had the strongest urge to tease her, ’’Even though you are unwilling to ask me why I am here, I can tell you.’’

’’I don’t really like it when people try to make a fool out of me. You so strongly denied the fact that you had met me before that it made me more determined to prove you wrong. And guess what...?"

Daisy’s gaze flitted over to his hand that slid inside his suit jacket and the image of the gun tucked in there flashed in her mind. In a split-second, she pushed her hand towards the suit as well, feeling the touch of the cold metal in her grip as she glanced at him.

However, Ryle did not take out his gun, much to Daisy’s confusion. But instead, there were a few papers in his hand.

Ryle noticed her stance and his brows raised subtly, ’’Are you looking for your little toy, Miss Chen? So that you can corner me and threaten me just the way you did that night?"

’’I don’t know what you are talking about,’’ Daisy dropped her hand and turned out to leave.

But the moment she had turned around, she felt the touch of calloused fingers on her wrist that wrapped around it strongly in the next moment.

’’I bet you do,’’ Ryle leaned forward to whisper against her ear, ’’I bet you know what I am talking about.’’

Daisy did not respond to his words.

Ryle smiled. Stubborn thing. ’’But one thing I can assure you, I have found and gathered evidence to debunk all your arguments and falsified truths. I want to see how you will be getting out of it this time around. First, we have....’’

Ryle’s words trailed off by Daisy’s consequent actions.

One moment, he still had one of her hands in his grip, while his other hand was holding the papers.

However, the woman suddenly turned on her heels out of nowhere, pushing their intertwined hands to her back. She lifted her other hand to the back of his neck, her fingers digging into his thick manes as she pulled him closer to her height with a strength that caught him off guard along with her actions.

Their faces were inches apart when she looked him dead in the eyes, ’’You don’t threaten me, Ryle Harper. I don’t allow you to,’’ her whisper fell like a siren’s spell to his ears. fгeewebnovёl.com

And entranced, he watched as she claimed his lips the moment she finished speaking. She did it as if her actions were a resounding slap on his face as if they were going to render him helpless and motionless.

And god, were her ways working?

She was clumsy and sloppy, barely kissing him but still, he could feel a tension in his chest. When the woman could not figure her way around it, she ruthlessly bit his lips, and yet... the tension in his chest did not diminish in the slight. It intensified by leaps and bounds.

Their lips parted and she looked at him, her face still as expressionless, but flushed. She was red, and panting yet she had that defiant look on her face that translated to ’Will you still mess with me?’.
