Chapter 38: Petty and vengeful

Daisy shook her head, "I had always wanted you to name her.’’

Diana suddenly remembered how Daisy had once brought up the topic of names for baby girls and she had assumed bizarre things about her sister’s sudden interest in babies.

Diana swatched Daisy’s back as she made her way towards the bed.

Her footsteps no longer were as powerful as before. No longer did she appear domineering like she was with Maxim and Ryle at the airport.

Daisy sat on the bed and glanced at Angel cautiously as if her gaze could somehow manage to harm the little girl, and all Diana could see was a delicate woman who was on the verge of a breakdown.

Daisy raised a trembling finger towards Angel’s face. Hesitation crossed her face. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Just as she was about to pull her hand back, Diana held her palm and placed it on Angel’s cheeks, "Stop panicking and worrying. She is doing good. And we both were waiting for you all this time.’’

Daisy bit her bottom lips as she felt the soft skin under her fingers.

"She is beautiful..." Daisy mumbled unconsciously.

"She has taken after me," Diana claimed with her nose in clouds.

Daisy chuckled, "Yes."

Daisy leaned closer to Angel and kissed her forehead softly before she pushed herself to her feet. The gentle expression on her face disappeared like an illusion within an instant, "Tell me everything they put you through. I want to know every single detail."

Diana had wanted to give Daisy a breather but knowing her, she knew that the woman would not like to be kept in the dark.

Moreover, she had things that she wanted to ask her too.

So, this conversation was inevitable.

Diana led Daisy towards the couch in the room, "After you disappeared from the wedding..."

As it turned out, the wedding venue had descended in chaos after Daisy disappeared from there. And amidst that, Alice Chen kept receiving threat messages. They thought that it was more or less just a fluke intended to scare them but still not wanting to take a risk, they still wired the money into the burner account when they saw the pictures of Daisy with a child.

However, the moment the money was wired, few people walked into the venue while holding a child. When Helian Chen confronted them, they revealed that they were from an orphanage and they received intel that the child with them belonged to Chen Family.

While they did not say anything explicitly, but for the people present there, it was not hard to connect the dots. From Daisy’s disappearance in her own wedding to the sudden arrival of a child. People talked wildly.

After the departure of the guests, Master Chen, Madam Chen and Diana were the only people in the wedding venue along with the child that was left behind by the members of ’Light Orphanage’.

Diana was holding the child as she asked her parents about what to do and how to find Daisy. But much to her shock, her mother suggestion giving up the child for foster care to protect the family’s reputation.

In the end, under those circumstances, Diana fled from the Chen Mansion and came to Los Angeles overnight. When she started looking for an affordable place to rent, she found a studio apartment. However due to some confusion, she mistook that place for Ryle’s villa where Maxim was staying temporarily. And Maxim let her in, not clearing her misunderstanding that she was at the wrong place. It was only recently did she come to know about that.

After Diana finished talking, she looked at Daisy in worry.

Daisy could see that she had a lot of things that she wanted to ask but out of concern for her, she was holding back.

Stroking Angel’s head, Daisy narrated the whole matter to Diana, beginning from how she discovered that she was pregnant, how she left her job, how she dealt with her pregnancy, how she was betrayed by Si Yena and how she was eventually lured into signing a work contract with Ryle.

Diana’s eyes had grown moist by the time Daisy finished speaking.

Both the sisters did not say anything as they sat in silence with Daisy constantly stroking Angel as if she was about disappear.

’Ring Ring Ring’

The sudden ringing of her phone interrupted the tranquil atmosphere in the room.

Daisy glanced at the watch on the wall, "It’s past midnight. Who is calling you at this hour?" freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Diana blushed.

Daisy raised an eyebrow, her gaze falling across the trail of hickeys on her sister’s neck as the woman rushed to walk out of the room, ’’I need detail for the hickeys too,’’ Daisy added, loud enough to make Diana stumble on her way out.

Once Diana left, Daisy looked at the closed door for some time before she slumped on the bed, right next to Angel.

The turbulence of the past few days replayed in her mind but somehow as she looked at the child sleeping peacefully, as she smelt the warmth that lingered in the air of the place, the walls around her started dropping.

The consequent days were more than anything Daisy could ask for.

Daisy was unable to be there for Angel for so long and it always used to make her feel like she would miss out on the girl’s childhood. But as she spent more time with Angel, Ivy and Diana, her worries somehow started disappearing.

It felt like she was getting to start everything from scratch. There were many things about Angel’s childhood that Daisy missed out on, like the first time she smiled, or even the first time she talked. The little girl addressed Diana as ’mama’ warmly. Somehow Maxim, the pest who kept lingering around her sister so persistently also got to be addressed as ’papa’, getting on Daisy’s last nerve.

The days at work were hectic. She had long known that Ryle was going to make things difficult for her as a result of her prior disappearance. And the man did just that.

Petty and vengeful, he never let go of a chance to torment her, acting completely opposite of the man who had invited her over for breakfast to convince her to re-join the organization.
