Chapter 314: The culprit or the mastermind?
’’Did you find anything about her?" Nathan paced in the empty hall, ’’You are of no use. Bastards!’’
A phone smashed on the floor, and the butler who was standing at a little distance, flinched, not daring to look up.
It was around 4 am in the morning. The guests had all left and the mansion was completely empty, except for the family members and servants who were awake.
’’Do you know something?" Nathan turned to Ryle who was idly sitting on the couch.
Just like the first night of his arrival, he had his legs crossed as he sipped on a cup of tea, nonchalant by the events transpiring around him.
’’I am talking to you.’’
’’What do you expect me to know?" Ryle placed the cup down and looked at the man who was supposed to be his father. A major part of his life he had feared he would become another Nathan Kingsley and to annihilate that fear, he kept trying to become even worse so he could deal with this man, look him in the eye and stay unaffected.
For the first time, Ryle felt that way as he looked at the man. Completely unaffected. He found the person rather pathetic and weak instead.
’’You are calm, Ryle. I know you don’t like Si Yena. Is this a trick of yours?" The more Nathan spoke, the further he seemed to be getting worked up, ’’Do you want to harm her?"
’’I would do that in front of your eyes. Why the hassle?" Ryle took a sip of his coffee, and glanced at Daisy from the corner of his eyes.
She seemed distracted as she looked down.
They had not been able to talk properly with all this fiasco and he wondered what had been occupying her mind. Did she miss home? Or was it something else?
Back in that guest room, she had acted like she was simply upset because he was made to talk with women. But he doubted it now.
’’You... Alright... Alright...’’ Nathan raked his fingers inside his hair, his gaze cold and his eyes sunken as he turned to the butler, ’’Gather all the servants here and pick everyone she had any sort of interaction with.’’
Ryle’s eyes darkened.
In no time, the butler smoothly arranged the servants in a queue.
Some of the servants trembled as they hurriedly explained, shrugging off the possibility of any responsibility that might be imposed on them.
And as it turned out, Maria smiled at everyone but barely interacted with anyone unless necessary.
Except Daze, the maid she shared the room with.
With a scapegoat in sight, the servants took no time in putting it all on Daisy.
Nathan’s eyes squinted. He remembered the first time he saw Maria, this maid was also there, ’’When she made a mistake back then, you stood up for her,’’ He stalked towards her, his steps heavy, ’’Tell me everything you know.’’
Daisy lowered her head, her shoulders trembling as she spoke in a meek voice, ’’I don’t know her at all. We encountered each other here for the first time...’’
’’Lies. All lies!" Nathan pinched the spot between his brows, ’’He doesn’t know, they don’t know, you don’t know.... Do you take me for a fool? Men!’’
At his command, a group of men rushed inside the mansion from all sides, surrounding the servants who had broken into tears by now.
And three tall men stood around Daisy, caging her from all sides.
’’Imprison her in the basement and torture her till she vomits every bit of information she possesses about Maria.’’
The men rushed closer to Daisy.
Daisy’s eyes narrowed, her wrist that hung by her waist made a small movement.
At this time, everyone heard a crisp shattering noise in the empty hall. The sound seemed to reverberate, making the atmosphere eerie.
Daisy’s movements stopped.
Everyone turned to look into Ryle’s direction.
The coffee mug was absent from his hand and near Nathan’s feet led shattered shards of the cup, some of them were stained with drops of blood.
Nathan looked down, feeling the prickling pain in his ankles before he looked up at Ryle in disbelief, ’’What are you doing?" He had been distracted for one minute and this bastard had taken the opportunity to injure him, ’’Did you forget that I am your father?"
’’The father who wanted to use me as a hostage in his mistress’s place?" Ryle looked up at the man, ’’I am better off without a father like that. Don’t you think so?"
’’You... I will deal with you later,’’ Nathan’s face seemed to have been overcome with a pallor. He looked like he could collapse any moment. The man turned to Daisy and snarled at the guards standing around her, ’’What are you waiting for? Drag her to the basement.’’ ƒreewebɳovel.com
"You dare?" Ryle pushed himself to his feet, a hint of warning in his voice.
’’What are you doing?" Nathan turned.
’’Stay away from her,’’ Ryle did not look at Nathan even once as he approached Daisy, step by step.
Nathan’s eyes narrowed. At this moment, he would be a fool if he didn’t realize that something was amiss.
Nathan snarled at Ryle, ’’You, go to your room!" He even brought a woman here in disguise and to think that nobody noticed it till this moment.
Ryle did not respond to Nathan’s words but instead, he held Daisy’s hand and pulled her towards him.
’’Very well. You don’t fear me anymore, do you?" Nathan nodded, ’’Men! All of you, come in and skin these bastards alive.’’
A few seconds passed but no one entered the place. There was pin drop silence in the hall.
’’You seem surprised,’’ Ryle remarked calmly.
’’What did you do? No... Impossible! It cannot be you.’’
’’I assume that the annihilation of your bases these days was not enough of a lesson to you.’’
’’It was you...’’ Nathan staggered a few steps back, his eyes widening in disbelief.
The past few weeks, countless strongholds of the Kingsley family had been destroyed one by one. Nathan had dispatched a large team to track the culprit so they could get to the bottom of the matter but regardless of how many men he dispatched, all of them came back with empty hands and no heartbeats.
