Chapter 276: Close to them?
When Lu Xian entered the living room, he saw his elder brother who barely even came out of his room. The man remained in his room till not a ray of sunlight fell on him and his entire body was suffused in paleness. Next to his elder brother was the familiar face of his father.
The faces were not foreign to him but what had him rooted to his spot was their lifeless bodies.
The police head who had greeted Ryle earlier followed by the woman who came to stand beside Lu Xian in silence, her eyes gouging the scene in front of her.
’’I rushed here as soon as I got the news from your private guards around the mansion. They tried to contact you but they could not reach you. Since it was an emergency, they called for an emergency. Your father... died of an overdose of his medications while your brother had been suffocated with a pillow. Since the hospital contacted us, we had to do a quick investigation. And after interrogating the servants, we concluded that they were clueless about this because the mansion usually stays this quiet, especially so in the past few days.’’
Lu Xian remained quiet.
The man hesitated for a moment before he continued speaking, ’’We were told that Mrs. Lu left the mansion in the morning and we expected that you would look for her so we have our people trying to track her movements...’’
’’No need,’’ Lu Xian said. fгeewebnovёl.com
’’Mr. Lu?"
’’You can leave.’’
’’But...’’
Lu Xian tilted his head to the side, ’’Did I stutter?"
The man gritted his teeth and turned to leave. This case involved two murders and normally, they would need to get to the bottom of it but considering Lu Xian’s identity and his reach in the underworld, he had his concerns too. The way the man looked at him, it seemed that he would employ his own ways to deal with it.
’The case could not be any more transparent. One missing person. Two dead. Going by the recent news, this Mrs. Lu had more to her than she showed and considering the timings, she was the mastermind behind these two murders,’ the man thought inwardly but keeping his thoughts to himself, he left the place, not wanting to provoke Lu Xian any further.
Lu Xian shifted his attention back to the coffins, looking at the two familiar and silent faces emotionlessly, ’’You can leave,’’ he said to the veiled woman who stood behind him rather quietly, an anomaly for somebody like her.
The woman, for once, did not sound sarcastic as she opened her mouth, "Were you close to them?"
The question that she asked seemed like a question that made him think too. ’’Not much,’’ he responded, knowing that maybe his younger self was close to these people. His younger self connected with these people, and looked up to them but as he grew up and took over his father’s position in the company, he had drifted off.
Discussions with his father somehow went from paintings and holiday trips to profits and business plans. As for his elder brother who liked to live in silence, the younger Lu Xian was clingy with him, wanting his attention the more he avoided him but as he grew up, he grew tired of it too. And he did not realize when he stopped going to visit him, stopped seeking the attention he never got from him.
Lu Xian never understood why his brother was so distant. He was sick, and he was in a vulnerable position but why did he deny the hands that people reached out towards him? But with the truth in light, with the realization that the woman whom he called his mother was not his mother and the woman who was their mother was no longer around, Lu Xian had his doubts. He doubted whether this was eating his brother up from inside. The more he thought, the more questions were there. Like why was he kept in the dark? Why did he never realize? Why?
And after the truth came out, he never once came back to this mansion as well, not wanting to confront what was coming at him.
Pathetic, he knew.
"Still, it must be uncomfortable, right?" the woman asked aloofly, her eyes tracing over the bodies of the people as if she was looking at air, nothing significant or powerful enough to move her.
Lu Xian did not answer her, his face slightly pale, a nausea kicking up in his stomach bolted with a strong sense of unease. He curled his fingers into fists and opened his mouth to speak to shadow guards who remained standing at a distance, ’’Make preparations.’’
...
It was already night by the time all the rituals were finished. As Lu Xian walked towards his car, the woman quietly followed him like a shadow.
He stopped in his tracks, ’’You can leave now.’’
The woman stopped walking.
Nodding once, Lu Xian stepped towards his car and entered the driver’s seat. He leaned back into a comfortable position and closed his eyes for a moment, the burning sensation behind them intensifying.
The door to the passenger seat opened and closed with a soft ’click’.
Lu Xian did not have to open his eyes to know who it was. The weird sensations behind his eyes disappeared, ’’What do you want from me, woman?"
’’Oh, nothing.’’
’’Then, get the hell out of my sight.’’
’’Your eyes are closed. Not like you can see me but alright,’’ the woman clicked her tongue, ’’Where are you going to? Your mansion, hotel or do you intend to sleep here in your car?"
’’What has it got to do with you?" Lu Xian finally could not take it any longer as he opened his eyes to look at her.
She tilted her head, ’’I am just tagging along.’’
He opened his mouth. She blinked. He closed it.
Lu Xian took a deep breath, ’’I don’t know what games you are playing but get lost.’’
