Chapter 267: People are idiots, sweetheart

Ryle looked at her with a teasing gaze as he chuckled.

’’What?"

’’I am just taking you out to the garden for some fresh air. What were you expecting me to do to you that made you all red?"

Daisy instinctively touched her cheeks, ’’I am n-not..’’ she trailed off, feeling how warm her face was.

His chest rumbled and the sound of his deep laughter entered her ears. Daisy opened her mouth to say something but unable to find words to defend herself, she closed her eyes and buried her face in his chest, feeling his chest vibrate against her face, ’’Stop laughing,’’ she admonished.

He only laughed harder, grabbing a coat with one hand to drape it over her as he took her out of the mansion.

In an angle, he could not see, Daisy smiled against his chest.

...

’’You know you can put me down now,’’ Daisy said when Ryle stepped into the gardens, still carrying her in his arms.

Although the guards were hidden in shadows and not visible to them, they were on duty and hence undoubtedly witnessing the sight of her being carried around like a rag doll.

’’I don’t want to,’’ Ryle stood in the garden, his gaze flickering around the garden for a few seconds before he carried her all the way to an isolated bench near the plum blossom tree gave them a decent view of the night sky, and being situated in a corner, it also hid them in the shadows.

Ryle positioned her on his lap and took a seat.

Having no energy to argue with the man, Daisy leaned towards him and placed her chin in the crook of his neck, ’’I think I need to wash up,’’ she whispered.

’’You are seducing me,’’ Ryle arched his neck as her warm breath caressed her skin. He really was afraid he would pin her down against that bench and take her right there and then.

Forcefully pressing down on those intrusive thoughts, he positioned her a little upwards such that her cheek grazed his jawline, her arms encircling his neck, ’’You can talk now. Hmm, why do you want to wash up?"

The cooing tone he used to talk to her made her roll her eyes. She reached her hand from inside the thick coat he had draped over her and poked his face.

Ryle smiled at her.

Daisy sighed, the strength in her poke weakening till it seemed more like she was just stroking him, "It’s a mess,’’ she mumbled.

’’Hmm?"

Her face turned warm. Was this man dumb or was he pretending to be dumb? Forget it, it was definitely the latter.

When she did not say anything, Ryle smirked slightly.

Suddenly, Daisy’s body jolted. She stiffened in his arms as his warm palm rode up her thighs under the layer of the coat and her nightdress.

She looked at him in disbelief as he cupped her thighs, gliding his fingers on the mess in there.

’’It’s good this way,’’ he stroked it gently, sending a shiver down her spine, ’’Every time you use those legs, you will feel me right in between.’’

’’You...’’ Daisy shook her head, unable to find a word for a long time before she said, ’’...are indecent.’’

’’Says the one who gets turned on by my indecency.’’

Daisy’s face heated up and she closed her eyes, refusing to say a word.

’’Sweetheart, don’t be angry now...’’

His words were interrupted as the shrill ringing of his phone pierced through the peace and calm of the night.

Ryle paused briefly before he took out his phone. Daisy caught a glimpse of Locke’s name on the caller ID as Ryle swiped the answer option and pressed the phone to his ear. freēwēbnovel.com

Daisy shifted in her place, trying to give him some space. But she had barely moved an inch when Ryle tightened grip on her, holding her in place, ’’Sit still,’’ he said to her before shifting his attention to the call, ’’Speak.’’

His expressions changed slightly from whatever Locke said before he regained his composure.

Probably because the phone was at a distance, Daisy heard everything fragments but she got the gist of it.

The call lasted for about a few minutes before Ryle hung up.

Both of them sat in that position in complete silence for a long time until Daisy sighed, adjusted herself on his lap properly and pulled him in for a hug.

Ryle let her. He defenselessly melted into her arms, wrapping his arms around her waist as he breathed in her scent.

’’How is everything there?" Daisy asked after a long while.

’’She had a breakdown today,’’ Ryle responded in a soft voice.

The ’she’ that he mentioned was the same woman he had rescued and brought to his mansion, the one who was possibly none other than the biological sister that he had been looking for all these years.

Daisy overheard Locke mentioning her and while she had no idea what he was saying, Ryle’s expressions were a giveaway that all had not gone according to how he had predicted them to go.

’’She was not in the best condition when she was rescued. She has lost her memory to the extent of forgetting her own name. When I stayed over there for some time, she used to have frequent nightmares and breakdowns but after a few days, her condition had toned down. When I came here, she was, although not entirely good but still in a better state. It has been quite some time since...’’ he trailed off.

’’You have done your best so far, Ryle,’’ Daisy spoke softly, her palm gently stroking his back.

’’I don’t know.’’

’’You have. Maybe you don’t understand. Or maybe you refuse to see how good you are,’’ she sighed.

’’People will laugh if they heard you, princess.’’

’’People are idiots then, sweetheart.’’

Ryle stiffened at her form of address, ’’Did you just...’’ he attempted to pull back from her to look at her face but she hugged him tighter quietly, not allowing him to pull back or look into her eyes.
