Chapter 236: How does he look at me?

’’It seems like you are rather concerned about Ivy,’’ Ryle remarked casually.

Aunty Lu smiled and waved her hand, ’’She is such a young girl. When she is at the mansion, she is of great help. Naturally, I was reluctant to see her going anywhere else so I asked. Isn’t it?" she patted Ivy’s shoulder.

Ivy smiled but the corner of her smile was slightly stiff. Perhaps she was overthinking but in the past few days, she had a feeling that the way Aunty Lu interacted with her was a little strange. She was still kind, she did not mean any harm, but there was an edge to her everytime she looked at her or talked to her.

However, that was something Ivy’s gut feeling told her. But when she noticed that others did not seem to find anything wrong with the whole exchange, she inwardly chastised herself.

’Maybe I should get some time off and start meditating once in a while. My overthinking has reached a point where I can conjure up conspiracy theories about the walls around me,’ She thought to herself.

...

Elite headquarters.

’’Daisy, you can go inside first. I will catch up with you later on.’’

’’Hmm? Do you have something going on?" Daisy turned to look at Ivy.

Ivy clicked her tongue, ’’It’s not good for my reputation if I get spotted getting out of the CEO’s car and walking around with her. People might say I am product of nepotism.’’

"_"

Seeing that Daisy was speechless, Ryle sighed, ’’For people to claim that you are a product of nepotism, the first condition is that there should be people. The headquarters are still being renovated and haven’t started the official interviews. Who has the leisure and opportunity to gossip?"

Ivy paused and nodded slowly, ’’It makes sense. Then...’’ she stepped forward, taking the lead, ’’Why don’t I show you around?"

Daisy nodded and turned to Ryle, ’’Are you sure you are going to waste your day away doing nothing?"

Ryle paused and looked at Angel who had cocooned herself in his arms, wearing a thick dark blue fur coat that created a sharp contrast against her blonde hair and flushed round cheeks.

Then he glanced at Daisy who was donned in a similar colored business suit. His overcoat was draped over her body. Her long hair was tied in a braid. Her eyes were looking at him with a hint of warning that said ’If you want to leave, do it right now. You aren’t getting the chance later.’

Just the sight of Daisy and Angel made his heart feel warm, a hint of contentedness, anticipation and hope blooming in his chest.

Damn, how did he get so lucky?

’’Want to leave?" Daisy rephrased her question, not getting a response from him.

"Nonsense. Angel and I are here for a company tour. Where are we supposed to go?" Ryle rolled his eyes and looked at the little girl, ’’Am I right, little princess?"

The said little princess in question looked up at Ryle, raising her head from the crook of his neck. Her round eyes seemed to narrow as she giggled and swayed a leg back and forth wilfully.

’’See?" Ryle gave Daisy a look, ’’You have gotten us all excited and now you want us to leave?"

Daisy was rather bewildered, ’’Just a building being renovated. What are you both so excited for?" she whispered as she watched them taking the lead and entering the building.

Ivy wanted to ignore the painfully low EQ of the woman that could pierce a hole through someone’s heart but in the end, she could not help but walk closer to Daisy, ’’It’s not the company that got them excited. It’s your company that are excited about, especially Mr. Harper.’’

As Daisy looked at Ivy, Ivy pointed her chin in Ryle’s direction. The man walked like he was roaming in the garden, idle and casual. Every once in a while, he would halt in his tracks and look over his shoulder, not explicitly but his gaze would linger on Daisy.

Almost as if he was seeing where she stood. His gaze would occasionally graze over every reflective surface that reflected Daisy’s face. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"Do you remember asking me if I have ever been in love?"

Daisy nodded, ’’I do,’’ She asked this question to her yesterday so it was impossible for her to forget it so soon, ’’You said you had a boyfriend when you were young. And he was a jerk.’’

Ivy nodded, ’’But I was in love with him. For my teenage self that had never truly known love, he was the definition of love. I used to look at him like my world revolved around him and it truly did. He was the only source of warmth in my life, he was everything good I had ever known.’’

Ivy smiled as she looked at Ryle’s back and questioned Daisy, ’’And do you know how he looks at you?" freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Daisy paused, ’’How... does he look at me?"

’’Like you are his entire world,’’ Ivy uttered softly.

’’And the difference between us would be... I thought my ex-boyfriend was my entire world when I had yet to see the world, when I was a silly teenager who had barely experienced love and warmth.’’

Ivy shook her head with a smile, ’’But Mr. Harper is neither an inexperienced teenager nor a naive lover. He seems to have seen everything and known everything. He also seems to have everything. But in all those things, nothing really compares to you in his eyes that stop at every juncture to make sure you are right behind.’’

...

’’So, what do you think of this so far?" Caleb proudly flaunted his creation.

And Daisy felt like he had every right to do so because of the work he had done.

Elite was meant to be a gaming company in the first place. When they stood outside, they had not noticed the difference but now, in just a matter of a few days, the place had seemed to have gone under a tremendous transformation.
