Chapter 217: Like what you see?
"The first young master of the Lu family is the son of the previous wife."
Ryle dropped another piece of information that made her look at him.
Daisy had not seen it coming considering how Mrs. Lu had always seemed so concerned about all her three sons. If anything, she has acted every bit of an ideal mother whenever she got the chance. And most of the time, she would express her grief over ’her sick eldest son’ who rarely ever appeared in public.
After hearing so much of the scandals of the Lu family, Daisy felt drained.
She was about to put the phone down when the mention of ’Si’ caught her attention.
Before she could start reading, the phone disappeared from her hand.
She glanced at Ryle who casually threw the phone to the backseat.
"With me here, you put all your attention to this insignificant thing. Are you trying to trample on my heart?" His voice dripped with part sorrow and part accusation.

Daisy’s lips twitched but the words of mockery got stuck in her throat when she saw his beautiful face.
Beautiful should not be the right word to describe the man but she could not help it.
She had come across many men. Perfect features, princely faces, model-like appearance, and all those who could probably take their chances in the entertainment industry.
Ryle however did not fit in that criteria. One glimpse at the man and one would know that he would not fit in. With all his scars, his beautiful hazel eyes, his striking and sharp features, and his well-built muscular yet proportionate body, there was a certain grit to him.
If he were to be sent back in time, he would probably be a handsome general. Daisy thought in a daze, her mind traveling to the history they taught back in school as she tried to recall who the most popular warrior was.
Whoever it was, this man would surpass them in the blink of an eye.
So beautiful.
Daisy felt her face growing warm.
"Sweetheart, I wonder if you like what you see?"
The man’s teasing voice snapped her out of her reverie.
But the heat in her face did not seem to dissipate in the slightest. Instead, it spread to every corner of her body till she felt weirdly hot and bothered.
As a proper lady, Daisy sat straighter and brought her unstable and wandering hands to her lap.
The man chuckled and the sound of his laughter sent a trail of butterflies in her stomach.
Cold as his girlfriend seemed, she was shy to her very bones. Hence not wanting to tickle her thin skin till she brandished her claws at him, Ryle spoke up like an absolute gentleman.
"The Si family has been going downhill for a while now. As for whatever assets they were left with was squandered away by their gambler of a son so it is natural that they must be left in a pickle."
"Oh... That’s all those headlines were about?" Daisy remembered seeing a horde of them in the links that Secretary Han had sent to her
Ryle paused for a moment before he calmly spoke, "There was a fire in the Si Mansion. Nobody survived," it came as a bit of a surprise to him too.
Daisy had checked the headlines briefly before she went to get changed. At that time, he received a text from Benjamin regarding the new turn in the situation.
He had wanted to bring it up later on but Daisy started going through the news in the car.
When Daisy heard his words, her eyes widened briefly before she fell silent. She did not know how she felt when listening about their downfall.
Ryle could sense the subtle shift in her mood.
Daisy looked up when they reached the Chen Mansion but Ryle did not slow down the car.
She looked at him questioningly as the man drove straight into the underground parking.
The place was dimly lit and there were many dark spots.
"They don’t have anything to do with you," Ryle started speaking as he parked the car and glanced at her, "They repaid your kindness with ingratitude in every way they could manage."
"Is that why you brought me here?" Daisy looked at the man and a hint of helplessness yet warmth seemed to be enveloping her from within.
Ryle nodded and alighted the car before he walked to the other side and opened the door for her.
As soon as she stepped out of the car, she was pulled into his warm embrace. One of his hands remained on her back, drawing her closer while his other hand was positioned near her head where he stroked her hair.
And the discomfort that seemed to have settled in her chest gradually vanished.
Daisy raised her arms and slowly wrapped them around him as she placed her cheek on his chest.
Ryle stiffened for a brief moment. Then, his gaze softened as he held her even tighter. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"I know I don’t owe them anything. But it’s rather strange when it has all come to this," Daisy spoke after a few moments.
She didn’t really have any soft feelings for the Si family.
Moreover, she felt like she was too much of a heartless person. Who died and who lived, when had it bothered her? At most, she would be stumped for a moment before she would go about doing what she did.
But when she heard what happened to the members of the Si family, she wondered for a moment if things would have turned out to be different had a few incidents never occurred.
To Daisy, her childhood memories in the Chen Mansion were negligible when she compared them to the time she spent in the Si family.
Angel was sent to the orphanage, and later the maid of the Si family was involved in the matter where Diana was almost... raped in their annual event and such things made them irreconcilable and set them apart.
