Chapter 151: Heartless little thing
"Ryle, I...’’
Ryle pressed a finger on her lips and pulled himself up from her lap. He sat beside her and without giving her a chance to register what he was doing, he effortlessly pulled her to sit on his lap.
By the time Daisy came back to her senses, she could feel their proximity. He was so close to her.
’’Don’t rush to refuse me. Don’t say that I am all good and fun but I am not your type. Even if that is true, don’t say it on my face.’’
Daisy looked at his face. His brows were tugged together as he said those words that seemed almost like a request. She instinctively reached out and smoothened the lines between his brows. Those were the words that she had uttered on a spur in front of Diana to convince her that there was nothing going on between Ryle and her. And to some extent, she was telling herself as well.
Ryle grabbed her wrist, stopping those fingers that were smoothening his frown. He kissed the corner of her wrist and then her palm before he placed soft kisses on each of her fingers, ’’I didn’t really have a type in women. You should be aware of it. But in case you don’t know this yet, let me tell you....’’
He pressed his forehead against hers and spoke against her lips, ’’After you happened to me, it has only been you. My type, my need, my desire and my reason to look forward to come back home. I...’’
She placed her palm on his mouth, preventing him from speaking any further.
Daisy moved on his body and let herself free as she lied down into his arms, her head resting on his shoulder while her legs remained placed on his lap.
"Ryle, I won’t be going back to US,’’ Daisy’s eyes were slightly red and her voice was hoarse but her words made him freeze.
She could feel his body turning rigid and she knew what it meant.
’’You can’t come to Beijing either, can you?" she questioned the man even though she knew the answer it.
He remained silent and any tiny ray of hope she had dispersed along with it.
Daisy closed her eyes and inhaled a deep breath as she calmed herself down, ’’You have a life there and I am going to have a life here.’’
He was about to say something but she simply shook her head, ’’Don’t say anything, Ryle. You have a life there that you can’t leave behind and come here for me. And I have responsibilities that I can’t abandon,’’ Daisy was not a person like this who hesitated talking about things that she was sure about.
But stating a fact had never been so draining before.
Ryle’s fingers curled into a fist, ’’We can try.’’
’’I am not sure I want to try something that I am not certain about,’’ she proceeded to get off his lap.
But the man’s gaze landed on her bare feet and he held her tight in place, ’’What are you not certain about?"
"If I can make it work, whatever it is between us,’’ Daisy did not hold back and communicated about what she thought just the way she confronted him on the matter regarding his fiancee, ’’I don’t want to set unrealistic expectations for you but I... might not give you what you want.’’
It’s because they were in each other’s reach that certain things had been possible between them. Before, she was staying at his place and now, he is staying at Chen Mansion but that was all temporary. He will eventually leave.
And she had to eventually take responsibility of Chen Corporations. Although she had been trying to not think about the matter but she knew regardless of whether she confronted it or not, she could never abandon the company at a delicate juncture like this. She did not have emotional attachments with her ancestors or the family heritage, but the Chen Corporations represented her grandfather’s and father’s endless effort and hardwork that they have put into it over the years.
And she was a single mother. With the responsibility of a company, she cannot simply neglect Angel in any manner.
So, amidst all these things, she did not think she had any time or efforts left to put into any romantic entanglements.
Daisy looked at Ryle and seeing the helpless look in his eyes, her heart softened. She instinctively raised her hand to stroke his face but realizing that they were talking about ending it and her action would be inappropriate at this moment, she was about to put her hand down.
But the man grabbed her hand and placed it on his face.
Daisy ran her thumb across his face as she stroked it gently, ’’It’s because we are in a close proximity that it’s difficult. When you go back, and I stay here, you will get over it. It won’t be that hard.’’
Ryle did not say anything even though his eyes darkened at her words.
He simply lifted her in a princess carry and took her back to her room.
’’Put me down. I can walk.’’
’’You are not wearing your slippers.’’
’’But...’’
Ryle gave her a look, ’’Don’t bother convincing me.’’
’’You are so stubborn,’’ she gave him a look and stopped struggling in his arms.
’’Whatever.’’
The man did not put her down even in front of her room. He carried her all the way inside, placed her on the bed, tucked her and Angel properly in the blanket.
It was probably the silence in the room that Daisy felt like she could hear the sound of her heartbeats when their eyes met and she wondered if he could hear it too.
Her lips parted slightly.
Ryle’s gaze shifted to her lips and his eyes darkened, ’’Sleep, princess,’’ he knew that if he stayed any longer, he would do something that she might or might not like.
So, he took a step back and turned to leave but the moment he turned around, he felt a grip on his palm.
He halted in his tracks and lowered his head to look at the slender fingers that had wrapped themselves around his fingers.
Ryle pressed his thumb over her fingers as he turned around to face her. It was perhaps the dim light in the room but there was something so alluring about the way she looked at him, eyes half narrowed and her gaze quiet yet meaningful. As if she was inviting him.
He felt like he had started hallucinating things at this point.
But then, her consequent actions proved that he was not hallucinating.
Daisy bit her bottom lips, and hesitated for a few moments but when she saw that he was still standing there without moving, she gave in to herself.
Ryle saw as the woman slowly inched closer to Angel. The King-sized bed was so huge that even though Angel was sleeping in the middle, there was more than enough space for two people.
Ryle looked at the empty spot next to Daisy.
But when he did not make a move to sleep next to her, she slowly let go of his hand. And she saw as the man took a step back and turned around to leave.
The light in her eyes dimmed but Daisy did not turn around to look at him nor did she stop him.
’Click’
She heard the sound of the door clicking shut and knew that the man had left.
But in the next moment, her eyes widened slightly when she turned around and found the man approaching the bed.
He had locked the door and he was walking towards her side of the bed.
Daisy watched as he stood near the head of the bed and unbuttoned the top few buttons of his shirt. He folded his sleeves, removed his shoes before he sat on the bed right next to her.
Daisy had taken the initiative to invite him in the spur of the moment but now the sudden proximity, made her face turn red as her heart raced.
She turned around to face Angel and she felt the bed dipping as he lied next to her, his hand slid inside the blanket as he wrapped it around her waist.
Daisy stopped breathing for a moment.
’’I thought we were talking about getting over it. Getting over us,’’ he whispered by her ear, his fingers drawing circles on her waist through the fabric of her satin night dress.
’’We have one night,’’ Daisy mumbled, slowly inching back into his arms as she felt the man sliding his other arm under her neck and hugging her tighter, ’’Or several nights till you are here.’’
’’Shut up,’’ Ryle’s tone deepened and he bit her neck to punish her. This little extremist! Did she bother about his feelings when she talked about such matters? freewebnσvel.cѳm
’’Heartless little thing,’’ he pinched her waist a few times.
Daisy was so speechless that she wanted to kick him off the bed but in the end when he stroked the spot that he just pinched, she melted into her arms and closed her eyes.
Both the people had their own concerns but none of them discussed it as they slept entangled in each other’s arms as if they had found solace in the very act of it.
