Chapter 149: For Angel
’’It’s hard to forget beautiful women,’’ Nora sighed softly, her eyes doing a slow once-over of Daisy.
Danger alarms went off in Ryle’s head. He glanced at both the women who were still holding each other’s hands and he did not hesitate twice before separating the both of them.
Daisy was bewildered.
Nora rolled her eyes at the man.
’’What business do you have here?" he asked straightforwardly. If this woman was here to be a homewrecker then he would not hesitate twice in seeking revenge.
’’Oh, I was leaving so I thought I should meet you before I leave.’’
’’Are we that close?" Ryle deadpanned.
’’Of course, you are my little fiancee,’’ the woman’s words seemed nothing but mocking.
The over six feet man who was addressed as little and the entirely single person who was referred to as fiancee had his face going frosty.
Perhaps Nora realized that the man was very much provoked, so she turned to Daisy instead, ’’I answered your call when you called him. I was curious about you so I came here to meet you. Do you mind?"
"_"
Daisy was a little speechless. She did not see this coming. The scene of meeting Ryle’s fiancee was rather unconventional.
Just as she was about to shake her head and say that she did not mind, Ryle spoke up first, ’’Did you say you answered my call?"
’’I am getting late for my flight,’’ Nora did not linger any further before she waved and coolly left.
Ryle pinched the spot between his brows and sat back on the couch. It suddenly dawned on him why Daisy was behaving that way. Logically, he should be angry and upset after he overheard her conversation with Diana about how she just found him ’fun’ and ’good’ but had no further thoughts about him. And he was upset for so long before he saw the news about Mrs. Chen’s condition and flew to Beijing overnight.
When he faced again, he forgot that he was even angry. He could not bring himself to for some reason. Instead, he felt his heart aching for her. He even justified her actions in his mind. He told himself that she had stayed by his side for years when she was disguised as Dexter. She had taken up the position of his right-hand man for so long so she knew him and his private life inside out. Hence, she had every right to not take him seriously. That is what he told himself. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
But when she gave him cold shoulders, he was speechless. He could not understand what he had done to get on her nerves. At least not until now.
However, a thought crossed his mind suddenly when he contemplated it.
He glanced at Daisy with a raised brow.
Daisy averted her gaze. She did not know why his intense stare made her want to avoid his gaze.
’’Come here,’’ he stretched his hand towards her.
Daisy looked at his outstretched hand but this time, she did not avoid it. She placed her hand in his and a soft gasp escaped her mouth when the man tugged her towards himself.
Ryle was still sitting on the couch and she was standing between his parted legs.
He wrapped an arm around her waist as he spoke, ’’Why does it bother you if I have a fiancee or not? Are you jealous?"
His words made her stiffen in her spot.
Jealous? She...?
’’No,’’ she said, determined, ’’I am not jealous. Why would I be?" Yeah, why should she be? What kind of relationship they had that it would make her jealous if there was another woman in his life?
’’Then what changes, Daze? What bothered you?"
’’This changes,’’ she pointed at the posture they were in. Him resting his chin on her stomach as he looked up at her and her being held by him, ’’I would find it disgusting if the man I am with has another woman.’’
’’And I am the man that you are with?" Ryle’s eyes twinkled. He was very much liking the direction in which the whole conversation was going.
Daisy was speechless. Why did this man have the talent of focusing on the most inconsequential things that she said and giving meaning to her thoughtless words?
Ryle did not tease her any further. He pulled her to his lap and caressed her hair, burying his face in her neck.
How he missed her fragrance in the past few days!
He nuzzled his nose in the crook of her neck and Daisy’s eyes fluttered close as she arched her neck slightly.
The man kissed her neck softly.
’’Ryle...’’
Daisy called out his name, her voice unusually soft and a contrast to what she intended it to be.
’’Yeah, sweetheart?"
’’This is a hospital...’’ she mumbled.
The man buried his face deeper inside her neck as he hugged her tighter, feeling her soft curves against her body, ’’I think I know...’’
’’You... I mean to say that we can’t be like this at the hospital.’’
’’You want me to take you to a better place, sweetie?" he licked her neck and kissed it again, making her tremble on his lap.
Daisy was speechless and on top of it, her body was not even functioning in the way she wanted it to function.
Ryle took a deep breath and pulled back from her neck before he placed a soft kiss on her chin, ’’Can you blame me? You smell so nice... so...’’ he leaned in towards her hair as he kissed her earlobe, ’’...So enticing.’’
Daisy gathered some strength to push the man away from her as she rolled her eyes at him. She had been stuck between her investigation and back and forth between the hospital to mansion and so on. She did not even have the time to breathe and she felt like she had not taken a proper shower in days. She felt anything but fresh so for him to say that she smelled enticing, she wanted to say that his sense of smell was bad.
She did not even have confidence about how her appearance was in that moment but the man was eyeing her as if she looked beautiful. Just like he always did.
’’There was no engagement between me and Nora. It was just a verbal agreement between the elders,’’ Ryle did not waste any time in explaining it to her. Just a moment ago, he was swept away by his desires and almost did not address the issue.
If Daisy had any doubts before, she was enlightened the instant she interacted with Nora. Hearing things and staying in the dark about something might have led her to exaggerate it in her mind but she was not a stupid person who would not be able to judge things for what they were when they were right in front of her eyes. It was obvious from the interaction between Nora and Ryle that they did not share any such relations.
’’We have not been on bad terms and we were mostly not in touch until she was dating Maxim. Still, there is nothing between us.’’
’’It’s okay. You don’t have to explain,’’ Daisy stopped him from speaking any further.
The man raised a brow, ’’I can’t risk having you jealous all the time, can I?"
Daisy’s face turned a faint shade of red. Who was jealous? Just how narcissistic can he be?"
She attempted to push him away from her but he pulled her closer and sighed, ’’But this time, I had contacted her some time ago. She was overseas for some work matters,’’ he paused for a moment before he spoke up, ’’As much of a busybody she is, she is a good pediatrician. I wanted to brief her about Angel’s conditions and ask for some alternative solution.’’ freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
He wanted to tell Daisy about it but he was worried that she would be disappointed if they could not come up with a proper solution.
’’Although Angel is in a good state now, but she is young and it is not good to let her be in a passive situation where she can fall sick anytime.’’
Daisy was stunned. She had considered these things before and she was also thinking of her next course of action but before she could do anything, he had already acted.
Unknowingly, she could feel ripples in her heart.
When she remained silent, Ryle was worried that she was not happy that he acted without telling her, ’’I wanted to be sure of it and only come to you with only solutions,’’ Otherwise, there was no need for him to create a problem for her in her mind that did not even exist now.
’’Say something now...’’ he urged when she grew increasingly quiet.
Daisy lifted her eyes to meet his gaze and without allowing him to register it, she cupped his face and captured his lips.
Ryle was stunned by her initiative but it took only a moment for him to recover from his reverie as he wrapped his arm tighter around her neck and kissed her back passionately.
By the time they parted, both of them were panting softly.
