Chapter 146: Where are they?

Although the baby was born smaller and weaker compared to the children who were born after nine or during the tenth month but the doctor said that miraculously, the child and mother were both safe and the child was born completely healthy. That set everyone’s heart to relief.

Later that night, after staying by his little grandson and granddaughter’s side for some time, Helian Chen went back to visit Alice who was still in the ICU.

He pulled a chair and sat beside the bed and looked at her hand that was covered in layer of bandages. He did not realize when he had dozed off.

He woke up when he felt some small movements from the person lying on the bed.

The man immediately sat up straight and looked at Alice who had her eyes open. Unlike the chaos earlier, she seemed rather calm as she glanced at the ceiling.

Helian Chen opened his mouth to speak but when he tried to say something, he realized he did not know what to say.

Had Diana and Daisy been there, they would have understood the reason why there were so many misunderstandings between their father and mother over the years. If Helian had not told them, they also would not have known his intentions towards Alice. The man was obviously desperate and scared that something would happen to her yet the moment she woke up and it was his turn to show what he felt, he scolded her.

Alice turned her head to the side and glanced at the man who was looking at her coldly as if her existence was a burden to him.

He stepped closer to the bed and placed one hand under her head and the other around her shoulder as he gently moved her to a sitting position. But in the middle of his actions, he stiffened when he suddenly felt two hands wrapping around his waist.

He lowered his head, stunned, as he looked at Alice who was hugging him tightly.

’’I am sorry...’’ the woman mumbled, ’’I am sorry...’’

He cleared his throat and tried to keep his voice even, ’’You don’t have to apologize to me. You have worried your daughters as well but they are just concerned about you. They don’t blame. As long as you get better and not attempt such things ever again, they will be content. In the future, if there is anything that is troubling you then you can come to me as well. But...’’

Daisy had to go to the ICU to check on the condition over there but Angel latched Maxim and observed the baby from a close up distance.

’’You go and see the situation over there. I will take care of her,’’ Diana had long fallen asleep as it was already past 4 am.

Angel however, who had woken up in Ryle’s lap earlier after a full day nap showed no signs of sleeping again. She seemed slightly drowsy initially but the moment she saw the baby, her sleep flew out of the window.

’’Call me if she troubles you,’’ Daisy left Angel in Maxim’s care under the man’s insistence.

’’Don’t call her,’’ Once Daisy left, Ryle who was standing on the side idly, with his hands tucked inside his pocket, finally stop acting like the backdrop and spoke up.

Maxim looked at him with a raised brow.

’’Don’t give me that look. I am doing it for your own good. You are a father now so you should learn how to be good with kids.’’

Maxim watched the man justify and stride out as if he did not just want to find an opportunity to get alone with Daisy.

Daisy had just walked a few steps when she heard a voice from behind.

’’Sweetheart, how long are you going to go on like this?" Ryle caught up with the woman with a few large strides.

The guards of the Chen family who had blocked the entire hallway did a double and triple take at Ryle. After all, not every Tom, Dick and Harry got to address their miss as such so he was probably their potential young master.

Daisy stopped in her tracks when she felt everyone’s gaze on her. She turned around to look at the man, ’’Don’t call me that.’’

When Daisy reached the ICU, she was greeted with the sight of her father’s secretary who was standing at the door.

’’What is it?"

The man opened his mouth to answer her but then in the end, he stepped aside.

When Daisy viewed inside the room through the glass in the door, her face changed.

The whole room was empty. The bed was entirely neat as if there was no one there. Daisy pushed open the door and stepped inside but there were no signs of both the people who should have been there.

Ryle who had chased Daisy to continue their unfinished conversation stopped in his tracks. It took him a moment to register the situation and without wasting another second, he turned to glance at the secretary who was standing at the door,

’’Where are they?" Ryle questioned.

’’Mr. Harper, this is a family affair,’’ Secretary Han, as afraid as he was of the notorious man, still faked his calmness and said.

’’Do you think the family is enjoying this affair?" Ryle glanced at Daisy who was obviously astonished. Although she did not express it, but she was not impacted any less than anyone else. Just from her appearance, she seemed physically and mentally tired and he knew the moment she came her, her little mind must have involved itself in all these matters as soon as possible.

It was precisely because it concerned her family that Ryle did not pick her up and take her back to US forcefully no matter how much he wanted to. Yet, somebody had the audacity to claim it as that.

Secretary Han felt guilty. In fact, he was mostly concerned about the series of actions that he had to carry out so he did not take the Elder Miss’ feelings into consideration.

At this moment, Daisy had finally composed herself as she walked towards him. She had a lingering suspicion in her heart, ’’Where are they?" she questioned the man.

’’President has left some things for you,’’ the man handed her a letter, ’’They should be in the private jet.’’

It has been barely an hour or two since her father had left Diana’s side and come back here. She could not understand what could have happened that both the people who did not see eye to eye left the place together in such a short notice unless...

’’President has taken the head doctor and a small team with him. Although Madam did not seem to be completely well, but she is in a better condition than before,’’ he was there when they had left and he could not pinpoint it but there was something different about the woman’s aura.

He had been by Helian Chen’s side for years so he was not unfamiliar with Alice Chen’s way of doing things.
