Chapter 136: I will go there today

"It has been two days. Elder Miss has locked herself in the room. The food we leave outside her room is almost untouched most of the time,’’ the head maid who usually served Alice Chen spoke to the butler, ’’Young Miss is pregnant but at least Young Master Qin is there to take care of her...’’

’’Shhh...’’ the butler looked around, ’’Young Miss’s husband doesn’t take after the surname of the Qin Family. He takes his mother’s surname. Maxim Warner.’’ He did not know much but since they had been old friends, he did not want the woman to overstep her boundaries in any manner. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

The woman was unbothered about that because it was the least of her concerns, ’’What do you think? Shall we inform Master about this?"

’’Master hasn’t come back to the mansion ever since Madam was admitted to the hospital,’’ Both their young misses, the younger son-in-law of the family, and even the little granddaughter were here in the Chen Mansion yet Helian Chen had not come back.

’’Maybe situations are not as good on his side as well,’’ the maid fell into thought. After a while, she braced herself, ’’If it goes on like this, Elder Miss will fall sick. I will take the breakfast and call her.’’

The butler’s lips twitched. Their elder miss was known for not having a good temper but nonetheless, he had seen her growing into a young lady and he had known the circumstances that shaped her into what she is today. He nodded at the maid.

The head maid served the breakfast. Because Daisy had not had proper food in the past few days, she added extra dishes and pushed the food trolley to the front of the room.

The woman hesitated for a moment before she raised her hand to knock on the door but before she could knock, the door opened from inside.

When Daisy looked up, she saw the two people standing outside her room like statues, ’’Is there something?"

The head maid and the butler both froze.

Daisy’s complexion had turned pale and there were apparent dark circles under her eyes. The rims of her eyes were visibly red and it looked like she was on the verge of a breakdown.

The head maid inhaled a deep breath and claimed authority when she saw Daisy’s condition, ’’Elder Miss, you haven’t had anything in the past two days. You will fall sick...’’

Daisy’s gaze landed on the elaborate food trolley that seemed like it contained food for at least three people, ’’I’ll eat later.’’

’’Elder Miss, we know the circumstances are not as good but you need to eat lest you fall sick,’’ the butler also stepped forward, ’’If something happens to you under our care, these old bones will blame themselves.’’

Daisy paused. She had always felt like the servants in the mansion did not like her the way they liked Diana but it suddenly seemed to her that she did not see things as clearly.

There seemed to be many things she had never paid attention to before.

She lowered her head and glanced at the flash drive in her hand.

’’Alright, have it served in Diana’s room. I’ll freshen up and go there to eat,’’ Without waiting for their response, Daisy turned around and walked inside the room.

Both the head maid and the butler looked at each other and a hint of relief crossed their faces.

...

’’She looked for you so many times. What were you doing?" Diana asked as she glanced at Angel who was clinging to Daisy like her life depended on it.

Daisy hugged the little girl and stroked her back as she handed her a small strawberry.

Once Angel’s attention was on it, Daisy continued eating her breakfast, ’’I was stuck with some work but luckily, it’s finished now.’’

Maxim’s eyes narrowed briefly when his gaze met Daisy’s.

But the brief exchange between them went unnoticed by Diana.

’’I went to visit mom the day before yesterday but she was not awake. Dad asked me to rest at home but I am feeling uneasy sitting here, doing nothing,’’ Diana said.

’’You can’t even do anything even if you want to. These things are not under your control but she is in a better condition now. She will wake up in no time,’’ Daisy said to her sister after a moment of consideration.

When Diana heard it, she nodded immediately, ’’I will visit Mom today to see how she is going.’’

’’That won’t do,’’ Daisy placed the spoon down and glanced at Diana, ’’I am going there today. I will ask Dad to come back home. Angel is not really fond of hospitals so I would need you to take care of her,’’ As she spoke, she looked at Angel and sighed inwardly.

Diana nodded without hesitation, ’’We can do that too.’’

Daisy did not meet her clear gaze.

If not for the circumstances, she would not have had to make up such things. But Daisy knew that she had to get to the bottom of the matters here before it would be possible for her to go back to the US.

’Once I deal with everything here, we will go back to our usual life and I will be by your side,’ Daisy thought as she leaned towards Angel and kissed her forehead gently.

’’I need to buy the essentials for Angel that you were talking about,’’ Maxim said as he stroked Diana’s face gently.

Diana’s face turned red as she glared at him but instead of backing off, he leaned and stole a kiss from her lips.

’’Get lost,’’ Diana cleared her throat.

Daisy acted like a part of the backdrop and like a prim and proper mother, she covered Angel’s eyes.

’’Then you can also go now. Daisy will drop you there on her way,’’ Diana pushed the man away from her, completely flustered, ’’Go go.’’

’’I will wait outside,’’ Daisy kissed Angel’s forehead and left when the little girl was in a trance so she would not notice her abrupt departure.
