Chapter 120: Tormented
"Did little princess enjoy that?" Ryle looked at the girl who was looking at the amusement park with stars in her eyes. If it was not so late already, he could have taken her to other rides that would probably have suited her taste given her preference for haunted houses.
’’Enjoyiiii...’’ the little girl cheered, shaking her legs in his arms and waving at her mother who caught up to them.
Probably some other day. He made a mental note.
Daisy grabbed Ryle’s arm. Even though her fingers could not encircle his arm completely, her grip was firm, ’’You... Are you avoiding me?" freewebnovёl.ƈom
’’Why would I?" Ryle looked at her indifferently but the scene of Lu Xian giving her a lingering look before his departure seemed to be still so fresh in his mind.
’’I am not like that normally,’’ Daisy tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, ’’It must have been tough for you. You had to carry Angel and handle me as well. I just get uncomfortable in such places and I cannot help it. I knew I would not be able to take care of Angel if we got inside the haunted house which is why I was not agreeing to that. I am sorry for putting you through all that trouble...’’
’’What nonsense are you talking about?’’ Ryle could not believe that the woman’s head which refused to see obvious things as ’’pest clinging to her’’ could conjure up such far-fetched ideas.
For the first time, he felt like he could not even be angry or unreasonable around the woman. He could not bear to when he looked into her hesitant and apologetic eyes, ’’Daisy, you think I am upset because I had to take care of Angel and you both?"
Daisy nodded then paused, ’’Lu Xian was also there,’’ As she spoke, she approached to take Angel from his arms.
Ryle’s arm snaked around her waist as he pulled her closer till she collided against his arms, ’’Do you believe me that had you refused to walk in there, I would have picked you over my other shoulder and carried you all the way here?"
Daisy’s eyes widened at the sudden proximity between them. freeweɓnøvel.com
’’Apparently, you don’t believe me. Trust me, I would have done right that so that you wouldn’t be having these ridiculous doubts at the moment. I don’t think I have any issues handling both the mother and daughter.’’
His words were fairly simple but Daisy did not know why her heart started thudding against her ribcage as if it was going to come out of her chest at any instant.
When Angel started fiddling around with her hair, Daisy snapped back to her senses and backed away from the man’s touch.
"Then, why did you act that way?" Afraid that he might notice her strange behavior, she asked the question casually while taking Angel from his arms.
Ryle paused.
She watched him visibly pause.
’’Good, now you can’t deny that you did avoid me,’’ she narrowed her eyes.
Ryle opened the car door for her, ’’You think I can bear to?"
Daisy’s heart skipped a beat.
’’I just don’t like it when you can’t see troubles.’’
She blinked.
The man seemed to be talking to her in circles.
She sighed and did not insist on knowing.
...
The days at Ryle’s mansion seemed to be passing in a blissful state for both the mother and daughter. In the blink of an eye, a month had passed.
Angel did not seem like she had been hospitalized a month ago. Because of proper care, she had gained some healthy weight and appeared rather squishy.
As for Daisy, she had also grown comfortable in the past few weeks. Her old wounds from the assassination attempt seemed to have completely faded and there were no further attacks after she had moved to Ryle’s mansion.
On this particular morning when Daisy knocked on Ryle’s door, she found him sitting on the couch with a thick file that looked rather familiar to her.
’’Do you need something?" he put the file aside and crossed one leg over the other as his gaze traced the woman who was wearing a light floral dress.
When Daisy crossed a mirror in the room, she instinctively checked herself out and fixed her before she made her way towards him.
And as she did so, she brought her long flowy hair to one side, letting it fall in front of her shoulders. Ryle’s gaze dropped to the exposed neckline and his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down.
This woman... was going to be the death of him.
He closed his eyes to erase the image of that inviting neck from his head but when filthier images started floating in his mind, he knew it was of no point.
Helpless, he grabbed a cushion and pressed it on his body to provide coverage for his family jewels.
At this point, tragically, he had gotten completely accustomed to it because this had been his condition during the past month. He did not blame her. After all, the woman was oblivious to the effect she had on him. She did not know how much of a seductress she was.
"I don’t need anything,’’ Daisy took a seat when the man patted the spot beside him, ’’I just came to ask you over for breakfast because Aunty Lu told me you skipped dinner last night.’’
Ryle did not say anything as he just felt her fragrance wafting over to him. She had freshly come out of the shower, he could tell. The way her hair was slightly damp when observed closely, or the remnants of tiny water droplets on her face. As if on cue, that water droplet rolled down her chin, to her neck, before sliding down and disappearing right between the sweetheart neckline of her dress.
For fuck’s sake.
Was she a torment? She was.
And was he willing to be tormented? He damn well was.
’’So, did you?" Daisy whispered when he remained quiet.
’’Huh?" Ryle snapped out of his reverie. Unable to resist the desperate urge, he raised his hand and brought it closer to her face before he gently played with her hair strands, ’’They are out of place. Let me fix it for you,’’ he whispered when he noticed her questioning look.
