Chapter 115: Partnership and cooperation

However, there was a small team amongst them who were mostly men in their 40s who were like an elite team, respected and feared by the rest of the forces under Ryle. Most of them were now guarding the mansion.

’’I am asking for you to take some of them with you for your protection,’’ Daisy was concerned. Maybe the man blamed himself for the constant assassinations and put all his elite guards around the mansion to guard them but meanwhile, he was getting himself involved in drug cartels and syndicates.

She never knew the reason Ryle was looking into this syndicate so passionately. It has been years and he had not given up. But seeing that he never mentioned the cause, she never asked him.

Which person did not have their secrets?

She herself had her shadows, her double identity that she hid from him for so long so Daisy was not going to question him about the things he did not want to talk about. She was not a meddlesome person.

’’Are you worried about me?" Amusement danced in the man’s eyes as he observed her. freewebnøvel.coɱ

’’Yes,’’ Daisy calmly spoke, not noticing the way his eyes lit up at her affirmation to his teasing words, ’’And I am not by your side now. With all most of your elite guards stationed around the mansion, even they would not be at peace.’’

It did not matter to him what the guards felt. He was there employer and they did what he asked them to do. Any unnecessary question, unnecessary concern, care, nagging, planning or plotting all were useless to him. Not every member amongst the forces crossed these lines of his except for the few old geezers in the elite forces but over the years, they have also adapted themselves according to his personality.

’’Do you want to be by my side?" Ryle’s attention picked what suited him the most. The remaining sentence was ignored by him.

"No.’’

Daisy’s crisp refusal made Ryle pause. A self-deprecating look flashed by his eyes. She refused to take the $50 billions from him and he did not ask her about the source of money again after she got offended the first time but from what Benjamin informed him, it should be that Lu Family’s pest helping her out with the money.

After all his actions, deep down, she must have been intimidated by him. She must be feeling scared to take any risks again, right?

Angel, who was supposed to be the tiny adult in the meeting, got bored with their talks and started sliding off Ryle’s lap after lazing around on him for some time.

Ryle placed the little girl down and she took tiny steps, curiously exploring the room with her wandering eyes.

The silence between Daisy and Ryle stretched. While Ryle was cursing himself over his past actions, Daisy was considering Ryle’s offer of working by his side immediately after she turned him down.

But even after giving it some thought, she said, ’’For now, I don’t want to work.’’

Ryle looked at her for a long time before he uttered the nagging question in his chest, ’’Did I scare you?" He had been rather vicious when he sent his lawyers over and he realized it the moment he did it. But anger was a blind beast. He was angry that he had been fooled and his trust was breached. He could not retain any rationality past that.

Daisy was confused.

’’Is that why you don’t want to have any professional dealings with me anymore?" There relationship was way past that and he did not want her just as his secretary again.

His needs and desires had metamorphosed to a depth that she could not decipher.

And he could not express.

But if her choice to not work with him was because of his actions... then Ryle knew he had no one but himself to hold responsible for. And he knew he would do anything to make it up to her.

However, Ryle was overthinking about the whole matter.

And he had underestimated Daisy.

’’Why would I be scared of you?" When she was pregnant with Angel, she was naturally fearful because of the sudden turn of events but that was the only time she had that feeling. But after that, she was on edge around Ryle because she was hiding something from the man.

To cover one lie, a person had to be on tenterhooks and tell hundred lies.

And the nagging feeling had been pestering her for a long time.

But once she came clean, even with their confrontation, Daisy felt free, ’’I have no reasons. We are even,’’ she shrugged calmly, rendering the man speechless.

’’You... really...’’

’’I am not,’’ Daisy cut him off, ’’Yes, you were unreasonable and petty but I was at fault. So, we are even.’’

Ryle was stumped for words but then he was all smiles as keenly observed the woman. That’s right.

How did he even assume this woman would come anywhere close to fearing him?

But then again, he just wanted to make sure that she really has no such knots in her. Because if she did, then he would make sure untie them.

Then she continued, ’’But I won’t be taking any jobs for now. With Angel’s health, I just want to spend more time with her,’’ she looked at the little girl who seemed to have found an interest in Ryle’s bedroom and was conducting her very own little treasure hunt there, ’’And I don’t want to put her in any danger.’’

Until the person who was hidden in dark came out, Daisy could not let her guards down.

In the end, Ryle persisted in tightening the security around the mansion. But Daisy was equally stubborn. So both the parties gave in to each other to a certain extent.

Daisy let him tighten the security around the mansion and Ryle was compelled to take a few elites of Daisy’s choice to accompany him.

Hence, Daisy felt like their cooperation and partnership would go rather well if the man stayed just as reasonable.
