"I am sorry that you had to come here on such a short notice,’’ Daisy said once they reached the Master bedroom.
The huge mansion surprisingly did not have another room except for the guest room on the ground floor. But with the crowd of bodyguards there, Daisy was unsure whether the woman would find it comfortable there.
’’You don’t need to thank me anyway. It’s my honor that I am able to be of any use to our Little Master,’’ Aunty giggled, ’’And I am already fond of our little Mistress already,’’ she continued, her eyes on Angel.
Daisy who was putting Angel on the bed paused her movements when she heard that.
"Mommy.. hug..’’ the little girl clung to her.
Daisy picked her up again in her arms before looking at the woman standing in front of her, ’’I think you have some misunderstanding, Mrs... Aunty Lu.’’
"A misunderstanding?"
"Angel is not mine and Ryle’s daughter,’’ Daisy said.
The woman frowned as she glanced at Angel, looking like she had something more to say, ’’But...’’ she paused and shook her head.
’’You can tell me if there is something.’’

’’It has been a long and stressful day. You must have guessed it with all the security around this mansion only. He must have been distracted.’’
Aunty Lu nodded, ’’Although I don’t know a lot but I thought something must have happened for Little Ma... my goodness, Master is not little anymore. He is going to be upset by my way of addressing him,’’ the woman sighed, ’’I thought something must have happened for him to call me over here.’’
Daisy smiled a bit when she noticed the woman’s spirits. She walked over to the couch and took a seat, pointing her chin to the empty spot beside her.
Angel climbed off her lap and looked to both the sides before she picked up two strawberries in each of her little hand. Turning her face to the wall, she started snacking on them as if nobody could see her.
Witnessing Angel’s antics, Aunty Lu fell in a daze as she looked at the little girl’s back nostalgically.
’’Is everything fine?" Daisy asked the woman softly.
Aunt Lu raised her hand to wipe the tears that escaped from the corner of her eyes, "I was reminded of old days when Master was about a little older than Angel.’’
’’It seems like you have known him for a long time,’’ she was not surprised since Ryle had already mentioned it to her.
Aunty Lu nodded, ’’He was not as much of an active child like her,’’ she said while looking at Angel’s back, ’’But he was very fond of these fruits. He rarely smiled or showed any kind of childish behaviour, only except the times when he would see dessert, or strawberries.’’
Daisy was a bit surprised to know that Ryle was fond of strawberries and dessert. Whenever she had seen him having them, she thought he was just entertaining Angel by taking every bite she offered. But it made sense now when she thought about how both the adult and child bonded for the first time over their love for strawberries.
Nevertheless, what surprised her more was another thing, ’’Did you say he was not an active child? Never laughed?" his cocky smile and his twisted and devilish antics revolved in Daisy’s head and she somehow could not connect the Ryle in Aunty Lu’s memories to the Ryle that she was familiar with.
The woman nodded, almost looking as if she was disturbed just thinking about it, ’’He had been a quiet child, very detached. It was hard for one to know what he was thinking because he never revealed any emotions at all...’’ she trailed off as if she was thinking of something but then she shook her head, ’’Look at me. Don’t mind me. I am just getting on my edge. Anyways, I felt very happy to seem him like that now.’’
There was something about Ryle that made people this happy. Daisy blinked while the woman continued speaking.
"He has grown up to be this kind and fine gentleman. He was also talking to his subordinates with a warm smile on his face. If Madam was here, she would seen that all her worries were for naught and Master has walked down the right path."
Every word of compliment that came out of Aunty Lu’s mouth for Ryle was like an eye-awakening moment for Daisy.
Kind and fine gentleman? Gentleman? Gentleman who?!
Warm smile while talking to his subordinates? That was the smile of death. Those men must be shaking in their boots.
As for Ryle Harper walking down the right path, Daisy had nothing to say about that. What was right, what was wrong? What served her well would be right for her and what served others well would be right for them.
Was there a person who wasn’t a villain in somebody’s tale? A person loved by the whole world?
Daisy did not care about the atrocities that Ryle’s hands were covered in. No matter what happened between them or how their equation changed, she did not care about the bloodstains on his hands because hers were equally filthy.
It was a long night for Daisy.
Ryle had assigned the guest bedroom to Aunty Lu and Daisy had to settle in the Master bedroom itself. It was past midnight by the time Angel got tired and dozed off in her arms. But Daisy could not sleep for some reason.
Maybe it was the change of environment that made her unable to fall sleep or perhaps it was because she had slept throughout the day.
She tossed and turned till her throat ran dry.
Daisy sat up on the bed and leaned forward to grab the jug from the bedside table only to realize that the initially half filled jug was now empty because she had been constantly drinking water the whole night.
Daisy pushed herself out of the bed and turned on the dimmest bedside lamp so as to not disturb Angel. Angel picked her sleeping habits from Diana hence the little girl would not even move in her sleep even if the world was crashing but Daisy turned on the lights just in case she got up and got scared in the darkness.
Daisy grabbed the jug and walked downstairs. Only the lights from the chandelier was reflected in the grand living room. And the bodyguards who were initially occupying the space seemed to have changed shifts. She was familiar with their working patterns. Even though they were absent inside the house, they must be guarding mansion from outside.
Daisy massaged the back of her neck and walked in the direction of the kitchen. Once the jug was filled, she turned to leave but she halted in her tracks when she saw a shadow approaching her direction.
Ryle’s face seemed a bit exhausted in the light and shadow created by the crystal patterned lighting of the chandelier.
The man halted in her tracks when he saw her.
The man approached the kitchen counter where she was standing and he picked up the jug before drinking the water straight from. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he took huge swigs of water.
The strong scent of perfume wafter over to her nose and Daisy took a step back from him. She opened the fridge and grabbed a water bottle before walking past him.
But before she could have taken even two steps away from the man, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back to the kitchen counter, his other hand placing the jug back on the surface. Her butt rested against the kitchen counter while the man had her trapped between both his hands.
And as she was about to move, he pressed one of his legs forward trapping it against the cabinets. Daisy could feel the heat slithering through her bare legs.
Knowing that bodyguards won’t be around at this hour, Daisy had removed the uncomfortable baggy pants that she had worn when she went to bed.
She knew she could push him away and she wanted to do just that so that the man broke his nose or his cockiness or lost some of his audacity. But her body seemed to be not in an alignment with her mind in the slightest like all other times.
All she could feel was a hike in her heartbeats, a heightening of her senses and a vague dampness between her inner thighs.
’’Were you ignoring me just now?"
