The fall had turned into a hilarious story.
Chen Ruoyu burst out laughing when she heard it. But then she felt it was inappropriate to be so loud, so she covered her mouth, her shoulders shaking with silent laughter and her eyes curving into smiling crescents.
"That’s just too funny!"
Chen Ruoyu felt that the way Chen JianShe told the story was even more brilliant than seeing it happen in person.
In the courtyard, Li Hongmei saw Chen Ruoyu and Gu Jiaojiao chatting and laughing together, and she was instantly displeased.
She walked out, stood in the doorway, and rolled her eyes. "Chen Ruoyu, Yun Hao is getting married today. We were asked to come and help. Do you have the nerve to just stand here chatting?"
She had intended to throw a few sarcastic remarks at Gu Jiaojiao, but the memory of the murderous aura Gu Jiaojiao had exuded that night was still terrifying to recall. In the end, she only shot Gu Jiaojiao a quick glance before hastily looking away.
Chen Ruoyu pursed her lips.
’As if she’s so eager to help. If it weren’t for the fact that Yun Hao is an educated youth here all by himself, I wouldn’t want to get involved in this sort of thing at all!’
In the past, Chen Ruoyu would have thought that Gu Jiaojiao was the one in the wrong, that she was being too aggressive in her pursuit of Yun Hao.
But now, she thought differently.
Gu Jiaojiao had such a great personality, while Yun Hao, who had a childhood sweetheart he’d grown up with, stubbornly refused to mention it, allowing everyone to get the wrong idea.
Whether he did it intentionally or not, by not saying anything, he was giving people hope. And his rejections were never clear-cut—it was like he’d rejected you, but maybe he hadn’t. It was just so frustrating.
Now, Chen Ruoyu felt that Yun Hao was just not a good person.
Still, she had to give him some face.
"I’m going in now."
After saying her goodbyes to Gu Jiaojiao, Chen Ruoyu walked inside. As she passed Li Hongmei, her voice turned ice-cold.
"My business is none of yours."
With that, she walked away.
At the Educated Youth Compound, Chen Ruoyu was known for her straightforward personality. If someone was in trouble, she would usually lend a hand, but she was selective. She only helped those she liked; she wasn’t so kind to those she didn’t.

Li Hongmei didn’t care.
She was already used to everyone hating her, anyway.
’I don’t care what other people think of me. All I want is to get out of here.’
Li Hongmei glanced down at her hands. Even though her family had never been well-off, she had never done heavy labor growing up. Ever since she was sent to the countryside, her hands had become rough and ugly.
