Chapter 489: Chapter 485: Can’t Wait
Yun Hao glanced at his watch. It was still early, but he couldn’t wait any longer.
The guests would only start arriving for the feast after he brought the bride back, and that’s when Gu Jiaojiao would show up.
He couldn’t wait to show Gu Jiaojiao just how grand the wedding he could provide for his future wife would be.
Hu Ziqiang was taken aback for a moment, but then he understood.
’This guy, honestly.’
’Just yesterday, he was adamant that he didn’t want to do this, and now, on the day he’s supposed to pick up his bride, he can’t wait.’
’They say women are the ones who say one thing and mean another, but sometimes, men are even worse.’
"Don’t be in such a rush. Once everyone gets here, we can go."
Hu Ziqiang had made a point of looking into the wedding customs.
On the wedding day, the main gate had to be left open. They had to wait for the chef to arrive and help get everything set up. Only after the others from the educated youth settlement arrived could they go pick up the bride.
Yun Hao said nothing and could only wait patiently.
About half an hour later, the chef and the male educated youths arrived.
The chef had been paid two yuan to cook for the day. As for the male educated youths, they had already agreed to go with him to pick up the bride.
Yun Hao had no family here, so the other educated youths were acting as his family members, making the occasion feel more festive.
Seeing that it was about time, Hu Ziqiang went into the woodshed and wheeled out the village chief’s bicycle.
The bicycle had been polished until it gleamed. A large red flower was tied to the handlebars, making it look incredibly festive.
The only thing ruining the festive atmosphere was the heavy, swirling snow.
Everyone was stomping their feet to stay warm, their heads bowed against the cold. Every so often, they’d have to brush the snow off their shoulders.
The chef went into the kitchen, then came back out a moment later.
"Yun Zhiqing, with this much snow, we can’t cook in the courtyard. Your kitchen pot is too small; there’s no way to cook for eleven tables. Besides, we have nowhere to put the tables."
The original plan was to set up the tables in the courtyard. But with this much snow, how could anyone eat out there?
Yun Hao’s expression soured. He had thought of everything except the weather.
The wedding couldn’t be postponed, so in the end, Yun Hao had no choice but to tell the men to set up a few tables in each of the three rooms.
The chef, to his credit, was thorough. He went inside to inspect the rooms, then came back out to report to Yun Hao.
"The rooms aren’t very big. We can fit eight tables at most."
Yun Hao insisted, "No. It has to be eleven."
The chef was speechless. ’Frankly, based on his estimate, not that many people would even show up for the banquet. He’d let it slide when Yun Hao insisted before, but now there wasn’t even space. Forcing the issue was just making things difficult for everyone.’
He was starting to get annoyed.
"Yun Zhiqing, if you want eleven tables, fine. Go take a look yourself and you can decide where to put them!"
Yun Hao spun around and strode into the rooms. He looked around and knew the chef was right. They could fit eight tables at most.
Hu Ziqiang didn’t understand what Yun Hao was so hung up on. He said in a low voice, "Yun Hao, eight tables is enough."
At this, Yun Hao suddenly flared up.
"Enough? Leng Yuan had ten tables at his wedding, so why can’t I have eleven? Who cares if it’s snowing? We’ll just put them out in the snow!"
Hu Ziqiang was startled, then looked at him in astonishment. "Yun Hao, you..."
Yun Hao turned his head away, looking flustered.
But then, realization dawned on Hu Ziqiang.
"Are you upset because he gave us the pig’s ass?"
"But you two already have a bet, don’t you? The commune teacher’s exam is in five days. You can beat him fair and square then. There’s no need to compete with him over this."
When Leng Yuan got married, it was a day of clear blue skies. The villagers all said the sun was incredibly warm that day.
It was rare to see such brilliant sunshine in the middle of winter.
Now, here was Yun Hao getting married in a blizzard, with a finger’s width of snow already covering the ground. How could he possibly compete with that?
