Chapter 279: Chapter 266: Sea Battle 4
Soon, the night fog descended. A vast, invisible force unexpectedly sealed off the hordes of monsters within the fog, keeping them outside the main battlefield.
Dense swarms of Destruction Level monsters and Divine Scions launched a second general assault. This time, Lin Hui finally understood why even someone as powerful as the Fog People’s Blood Ancestors could only defend their city and not expand their territory.
The number of Divine Scions besieging him quickly grew to eight. Soon, another dozen or so rushed in to form a ranged squad, constantly harassing him and preventing him from closing in.
His opponents were incredibly fast, possessing the same super-speed as the Fog People. Their sky-blue energy, known as Fog Divine Power, was also absurdly destructive—far stronger than Void Power and Inner Strength, and in no way inferior to his own Disaster Energy.
Furthermore, the Divine Scions’ bodies were nigh-indestructible and incredibly tough, each one comparable to a top-tier Blood Ancestor.
Aside from two weaknesses—poor recovery and the short duration of their Fog Divine Power—these Divine Scions were practically flawless.
Lin Hui could already sense Blood Ancestors returning to the battlefield, having revived in the Moon Tower after being cut down.
The Blood Ancestors’ regenerative abilities were immense, making them incredibly difficult to kill. This was the Fog People’s advantage.
The battle raged day and night without pause. From the very beginning, everyone was locked in a life-or-death struggle, fighting with all their might.
Day after day passed...
Black Cloud’s defensive line had shrunk drastically, forced back until it was only half its original size.
Lin Hui and Hong Lingxiao held the line desperately around the Third Mountain, blocking any Divine Scion who tried to approach and destroy it.
Low-level monsters were annihilated in an instant before them, and even Destruction Level ones were no different.
The Divine Scions’ assault, however, was completely different.
Hundreds of Divine Scions now surrounded the pair, layering stack upon stack of debilitating effects on them.
Under this wide area of debilitating effects, Lin Hui’s normal speed was forcefully suppressed to a mere tenth of what it usually was.
These Divine Scions also had damage-reflection auras, hardening auras, and phasing auras. Each type was stacked dozens of times, making them terrifyingly potent.
Hong Lingxiao was completely unable to fight back, trapped in a state of constantly being beaten and dying again and again. Death, self-detonation to force the enemy back, revival only to be immediately bound and suppressed, then death and self-detonation once more—the cycle repeated endlessly.
Lin Hui had been forced to summon his Three Seals, which now floated behind him. He had also long since activated Micro-flash, a Special Effect of his Typhoon Swordsmanship, to drastically conserve his stamina.
After he killed another dozen or so of them, the Divine Scions learned their lesson. They sent their fastest members to engage him in close quarters, unleashing a torrent of disruptive and slowing effects. From a distance, others used a strange, powerfully adhesive substance to further weigh Lin Hui down.
Faced with Fog Divine Power, a force potent enough to rival his Disaster Energy, Lin Hui was forced into a temporary stalemate. He could only rely on Micro-flash and Wind of Surrounding to desperately dodge, block, and defend.
After so many days of slaughter, he was growing weary.
’It’s been five days. How long do these naval battles usually last?’ he asked Hong Lingxiao via voice transmission.
"I’m not sure. The last one was over a month. The one before that was two months. But don’t worry. Once they’ve used up all their stored Divine Power, they’ll retreat on their own. Our recovery is incredible; we can outlast them!" As soon as Hong Lingxiao finished speaking, she once again self-detonated, forcing back the Divine Scions who were trying to close in.
Lin Hui was speechless. He watched her rapidly regenerate, enter a new Blood Ancestor state, and resume the slaughter.
He scanned his surroundings. The sky was filled with the clashing red and blue lights of battle.
The ground was littered with craters, fissures, severed limbs, and pools of blood. The surface of the sea had even been stained from green to a strange, murky, gray-black.
The blood of too many different races and monsters had mixed together in the water. The combination of different-colored bloods had ultimately dyed this stretch of sea this foul gray-black color.
The large monsters were almost gone. The battlefield was now dominated by various combat groups of stronger, small- and medium-sized Divine Scions and Blood Ancestors.
From a distance, the ripples of power emanating from these clashing groups looked like colorful bubbles of various sizes.
Sometimes they would collide and explode, interweaving and merging. At other times they would drift apart, or one would be extinguished entirely, its battle concluded.
"Hold on! We’re entering the second phase! The cannon fodder has been cleared out. Now the Divine Scions are the main assault," Hong Lingxiao added hastily, just before she was blown apart once more, reduced to a pile of bloody pulp.
"..." Lin Hui, rendered speechless, activated Micro-flash to evade several blades and spears, then forced a Divine Scion back with a reverse-handed sword strike.
’There’s no end to them... I can’t kill them all...’
He had been trying to select a suitable species for his Annihilation Sacred Form, but the problem was that even though he had one in mind, unleashing a stronger trump card would inevitably draw even greater suppression and focus from the enemy.
’The most infuriating thing about these Divine Scions is that the effects of their Divine Power can be stacked.’
’It’s not time... It’s still just the Divine Scions. The Fog Spirit hasn’t even shown itself... I can’t be rash, or all the pressure will shift onto me...’
He calmed himself, resolving not to activate his Qingyuan Body or use his strongest techniques like Typhoon Swordsmanship and the Star Breath Sword Manual. Instead, he relied on his other Special Effects and his recently enhanced physique, using Micro-flash to hold on.
Day by day, time flowed on.
No food, no drink, no sleep, no rest.
Lin Hui was finally witnessing the terrifying endurance of the Blood Ancestors firsthand. The Divine Scions were replaced in wave after wave, but the Blood Ancestors were still the same ones as before.
At first, they could all fight head-on, but later, they were almost entirely relying on a cycle of self-detonation, re-formation, and self-detonation again just to hold the line.
The Divine Scions, wary of the terrifying power of the self-detonations, found a way to maintain equilibrium after their numbers had been cut in half.
In the Black Cloud Outer City District, the three sides facing the war had been reduced to a field of rubble. Only the massive white walls of the Inner City desperately held back the invading monsters.
