Chapter 1365: Chapter 1364: Another Primordial Master
Shen Mao’s breathing gradually grew faster. Under Su Changfeng’s sharp gaze he was almost left with nowhere to hide; he had no choice but to look away and lower his head as he said, "Mr. Su, I really don’t know what exactly is wrong between that grandfather and grandson, but Situ Feng did come to me in private, trying to ask about you. I think, since Situ Yuan already came once, and he himself then sneaked over again, he must have his own agenda."
"That’s all?" Su Changfeng looked at him coldly.
"That’s really all. I don’t dare hide anything." Shen Mao said.
Su Changfeng sized Shen Mao up. From his appearance, he really didn’t seem to be lying, so Su didn’t continue questioning him.
Not long after Su Changfeng left, before Shen Mao had time to recover his composure, You Meng came looking for him.
But toward You Meng, Shen Mao didn’t have as much wariness. Though she was someone at Su Changfeng’s side, the shock she brought was still far from Su Changfeng’s.
"Young lady, what brings you here to see me? Or are you looking for Mr. Su? He just left not long ago." Shen Mao asked.
You Meng waved her hand with a smile, walked straight up to Shen Mao, and said, "I’m here for you."
Shen Mao deliberately put on a look of surprise. Of course he understood she was here for him—otherwise, how could she just happen to show up right after Su Changfeng?
"Then may I ask, young lady, what matter you have with me?" Shen Mao asked.
"What did Su Changfeng just say?" You Meng asked bluntly.
Shen Mao’s lips twitched slightly. It seemed that even the people at Su Changfeng’s side couldn’t be trusted so easily.
"Young lady, the conversation between Mr. Su and me naturally can’t be shared." Shen Mao said.
"Between your secret and your life, which do you choose?" You Meng wasn’t angry; instead, she smiled as she asked.
A trace of contempt slowly surfaced in Shen Mao’s eyes. He feared Su Changfeng, but that didn’t mean he had to be wary of a little girl.
"Then may I ask, young lady, what skills do you have?" Whenever Shen Mao said this, his subordinates should already be stepping up to shield him.
But Shen Mao quickly noticed that his subordinate was standing utterly motionless where he was, as if he hadn’t noticed anything happening over here at all.
This subordinate had always been his confidant, responsible for his safety all these years. Was he slacking off now? That shouldn’t be.
"What are you standing there dazing for?" Shen Mao glared at his subordinate, face dark, and questioned him.
You Meng smiled proudly and kindly explained, "He can’t move anymore. He can’t protect you."
Can’t move? What did that mean?
Only now did Shen Mao carefully study his subordinate. At this moment he finally noticed something was off.
He saw fine beads of sweat seeping from his forehead, his face utterly bloodless, his whole body trembling uncontrollably, as if he was bearing some unbearable pressure.
It was only now that Shen Mao realized this soft and fragile-looking little girl before him was nowhere near as simple as he’d imagined.
Almost instinctively, he pulled back the contempt from his face. Shen Mao understood very well that this young lady in front of him was also someone he absolutely could not offend.
"Young lady, I failed to recognize your greatness. I hope you won’t hold it against me. Please let him go." Shen Mao said.
"Sure. But you have to tell me what exactly he said to you." You Meng asked.
Shen Mao took a deep breath. If he told her, that would mean betraying Su Changfeng. But the situation was critical; if he said nothing, today would most likely be his death day.
Who isn’t afraid of death? Especially someone like Shen Mao, sitting on a mountain of wealth—he was even less willing to die easily.
"Mr. Su only asked me one question: what would happen if he killed Situ Yuan." Shen Mao said truthfully.
You Meng was stunned for a moment, then laughed so hard her shoulders shook, clutching her stomach as she said, "Interesting, this is just too interesting. Looks like Xingluo is about to liven up. Life finally won’t be so boring."
Faced with such a strange reaction from You Meng, Shen Mao only felt bewildered. She seemed genuinely delighted—delighted to see some uncontrollable major event break out within Xingluo Territory. Just what kind of woman was this?
"You absolutely can’t tell Su Changfeng about my visit today. Otherwise, I won’t spare you!" You Meng said with her eyes narrowed in a smile.
Seeing her smile, Shen Mao’s heart sank. He hurriedly pledged, "After sending Mr. Su off, Shen Mao went straight to bed and hasn’t met anyone else."
"Very good." You Meng nodded in satisfaction.
As her words fell, Shen Mao noticed that the You Meng who had just been standing in front of him suddenly vanished on the spot.
Right after, there was a loud "bang," and the subordinate beside him collapsed to the ground as if all strength had been drained from him.
Seeing this, Shen Mao’s expression turned even uglier. With his resources, finding another bodyguard would be easy, but this man had followed him for so many years and was his confidant. It wouldn’t be so easy to cultivate another one like him.
"Are you all right?" Shen Mao hurried over, asking nervously.
"I’m... I’m fine, just a bit exhausted, that’s all." the man replied.
"What happened to you just now?" Shen Mao asked again.
The subordinate shook his head. He didn’t know what had happened either. Ever since You Meng appeared, he had felt as if two great mountains had been thrown onto his back. He could barely breathe.
"Her strength is definitely late stage third rank, and far from just Eighth Rank." the subordinate said gravely.
Shen Mao’s eyes instantly widened. What kind of monsters had come here? Xinluo City might often see some late stage third rank experts, but those people were basically just at the Basic Stage of the late third rank, merely Eighth-rank Experts. Yet now, in Xinluo City, a Primordial Master had appeared, a Ninth Rank Expert as well, and even a Fate Fruit could be taken out for auction. What the hell was going on!
Wait, it didn’t seem that simple!
Not sure what he’d thought of, the blood drained completely from Shen Mao’s face. Judging from her apparent age of only fifteen or sixteen, how could she possibly have reached Ninth Grade strength at such an age?
If so, there seemed to be only one possibility left: like Su Changfeng, she had also reversed her age and become young again—she was also a Primordial Master.
Shen Mao could no longer support himself and plopped down hard onto the floor.
A Primordial Master—someone an ordinary person might never encounter once in an entire lifetime—and he had met two in one go. Shen Mao didn’t even know what to say anymore.
Could this be considered good luck? Shen Mao gave a bitter smile and shook his head. What kind of good luck was this? This was pure misfortune. Running into two Primordial Masters at the same time would be one thing, but the key point was that these two clearly weren’t on the same side, and he just so happened to be entangled with both of them, stuck juggling between two Primordial Masters. If he slipped up even a little, he might really end up with not even his bones left.
