Chapter 40: Chapter 40 : Luminary Trial: Truce

"Dragging this out will be disadvantageous for us" the woman named Haze said flatly. Her expression grave, she could clearly feel the difference in their level. freēwēbnovel.com

"Is this the level of class-A students? " the man named Xavier sighed, then he gripped the spear resting on his shoulders.

"Alright, let’s go" they nodded in unison

Mist erupted as they moved, their figures a blur, then Xavier charged forward, a green mana was enveloping the tip of his spear.

’You’re finally using your class’ Haze clenched her fists, then black smoke appeared, embracing her figure before she vanished out of thin air.

Zeres’ eyes sharpened. It was troublesome dealing with two knight class-gifted and one assassin.

Standing alone amidst the mist hindering his vision, he heard a heartbeat behind him: fast one and unsteady.

"Nervous are we? " he laughed lightly while he tilted his head, the dagger grazing his shoulder before the woman assassin turned into smoke again.

’Why did Feilres attacked the Saintess? It wasn’t written—’ his thoughts stopped when he remembered the one he had read was an old version.

"Haa, fuck" he ruffled his long hair, his blood-red eyes spotting a figure ahead.

Zeres kicked the ground hard, his fist slamming against a blurry figure.

The sound of metal being hit echoed as Zeres’ lips twitched, the burly man with a massive shield had jumped in to protect the spearman.

"Just go down! " Haze snarled, gripping her twin daggers tightly, she thrusted it straight at his back.

"That won’t happen"

"’Huh? " Haze’s eyes widened, Zeres’ boots was already upon her face—then it landed.

’Martial Arts? ’ Haze wiped the blood on her mouth. Fighting someone without any information was really suicidal. She only participated because of the prince promise.

"I’m not done yet! " Xavier gritted his teeth. ’Why can’t I hit him? ’

He tried everything he knew about spearmanship, but it didn’t work.

"You’re too weak to learn our Family’s Spear Art"

His eyes widened as a sudden memory surfaced. ’Right, if only I have the family’s Spear art! ’ his grip on the spear tightened even more, blood started to dripper down the ground.

"Hey Xavier snapped out of it! " the massive man delivered a slap on his back.

"We’re in a fight Xavier" He said, his voice heavy with tension.

"I’m sorry" Xavier smiled softly, then he stood up again.

"We’ll do that. Are you ready? " Haze whisperer beside him.

"What? Are you serious? " Xavier snapped. That technique was still incomplete, and they still haven’t perfected it.

"We have no choice" Haze gave him a bitter smile. "Who would’ve thought the Class-A are this different."

"Okay" Xavier sighed, but then he nodded.

"Let’s start"

The air around them trembled, three elemental mana hovering around them. Blood dripped down from their noses, but they persevered.

After some moments. Three elements hovered before them, then they moved.

’It’s different’ Zeres thought. The three of them had gained an explosive speed and strength.

Hazel and Xavier then reappeared beside him, their weapons radiating a pressure that wasn’t there earlier.

"Now! " Haze shouted. Their weapons roared to life as they lunged.

’Same blunt techniques? ’ Zeres scoffed.

But then.

"’Huh? " he stared at the dagger and the spear that had plunged their way into his flesh.

’Fuck! ’ he bit his lower lip. The two of them never plan to attack him head on from the very beginning—it was a diversion!

"Goodbye"

Zeres head instantly snapped upwards, the burly man was falling at a fast pace, it’s shield facing the ground—ready to smash him whole.

"Hahaha, I’m impressed"

"Ohh well, I’m tired of this" A breath escape through his mouth. Then two massive bat-like wings appeared on his back.

"Catch him! We won’t be able to get him mid-air! " Haze shouted, but she moved way too late.

Zeres was already mid-air. His expression lazy while he looked down at all of them. He extending his hands.

Crimson magic circles appeared in front of his index finger, then he pointed it down—straight towards them. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Blood Cage" he chanted.

A faint sizzle of mana made the air tremble, and before Haze and the other could react—they we’re all sealed within a cage.

’Huh? I didn’t even hear him chant the whole incantation. Don’t tell me he’s playing with us earlier? ’ Haze’s whole body froze. If that was the case, then if they weren’t in a trial, the three of them had long been nothing but corpse.

Haze’s head snapped upwards, the noise around her became background noises as she stared at Zeres who descended from the sky.

The burly man fell down the ground hard, a cage was already containing him. ’So it still didn’t work’ he thought bitterly

"My dear Feilres, why don’t we start now? "

"Ah, it’s already time I see." Feilred said coldly, the sword in his hand blazing with golden flame. It melted the snow as steam started to appear. He took a step forward, the air distorting around him.

Feilres lunged, his movement a blur of motion. Then he reappeared behind Zeres, his sword roared with flames as he swung it horizontally.

"You’re quite impatient" Zeres said.

"Who wouldn’t, when an annoying pest like you appeared? "

Zeres stepped back. Just then, he felt it—the feeling of being watched.

"Hey, you felt that? " Zeres asked casually, then he pointed at a certain direction.

"How unlucky of me" Feilres chucked, they both stared at a massive black figure, it’s size easily towering over the tall trees. Black pus dropped down the ground and a stench of something rotten assaulted their nostrils.

"A forsaken?"

"Possibly a matured Dreadspawn-rank" Zeres answered.

The his head turned at a tree near them. "Hey, aren’t you going to help? "

"I’m sleepy, deal with it yourselves" Helize stepped out of the tree, her purple hair fluttered behind her, amethyst eyes staring at Zeres.

"You deal with it, I need sleep" she repeated, then she flew up at a tree branch.

"Bastard, just focus on the forsaken first" Feilres glared at him.

"We’ll have a truce for now" Feilres said. "We won’t gain anything by going against each other."

"Ohh, so that’s why you went after the saintess~" Zeres laughed lightly.

"Shut up."
