Chapter 91: Going Home

The police asked Doran to have a security detail for the time being while they investigated the matter and to shift Skyla somewhere safe.

The morning had dawned by the time police left and Huria’s anger was touching the roof. She couldn’t believe this shameless man, who had dared harm his wife and blatantly lied.

Did no one see him taking her along in the car? The way the police had believed the lies so quickly cemented the belief in Huria that he might have paid them off to play along. freewebnoveℓ.com

There was no one to find and the case would be closed soon. She was itching to hit his ass-like face which the world found so handsome.

Skyla had gone to sleep, the doctors had given her pain meds and relaxants so she could rest. They had also instructed her family and friends to not stress her out and let her rest as much as she could.

Huria stood by her side, raking her fingers through her friend’s hair and wondering when her sufferings would end. Hadn’t she been through enough?

Huria was still contemplating when she heard murmurs of a slight argument breaking out. Huria moved out of the room into the corridor to see what was going on. It was between Zyair and Doran

Zyair had his buffed arms crossed against his chest. He was at least three inches taller than Doran and seemed to tower over him. His piercing eyes didn’t have any of the warmth which she observed whenever he spoke with Skyla. Instead, they were like a stormy sea ready to engulf and wreck the cunning man in front of him.

"It was your duty to arrange proper transport for your wife so she didn’t have to travel by taxi. Why doesn’t Miss Skyla own a car?" Zyair asked with undertones of annoyance.

"It was her choice, sir. I wanted to buy a car for her but she didn’t let me. She even refused your offer of pick and drop." The lies he spewed baffled Zyair. He knew it wasn’t Skyla’s choice but Doran had made her do it.

"Miss Skyla will use the transport I will send from now onwards. Her safety should be the priority," the authority in his tone had Doran nodding his head. He knew too well that this man could destroy him so he always played nice.

Taking the opportunity of having Zyair make decisions for Skyla, Huria also added her part.

"Skyla will be discharged today and she will be moving in with me for the time being."

Doran turned to face her, the anger turning his countenance uglier. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"And why would that be?" He asked mockingly, knowing too well she would never open her mouth in front of Zyair.

"I think it’s a good decision, considering your family is being targeted. Miss Skyla will be safer at Miss Huria’s house for the time being. I will appoint a few guards outside as well. What happened should never be repeated and I don’t think your place is safe. The Police said the same." Zyair thrust his hands deep into the pockets of his pyjamas and dared Doran to defy him.

The malice on Doran’s face melted away to be replaced by a forced smile but that bitterness remained in his icy eyes.

"Of course, that will be a good plan. In a few hours, I have to leave on a business trip for a week so I will know she is safe. My mom will visit." His words made Huria feel that he was saving face and running away.

It was very odd for a husband to be thinking of a business trip when his wife was in this condition but neither of them wanted him anywhere near her so they didn’t press him. Instead, they were relieved.

"Good, Miss Huria, please make preparations. So we can shift Miss Skyla to your home. I want her to feel relaxed and safe after the ordeal she has been through. And I will personally investigate this matter."

Zyair told them but his sharp and penetrating gaze was focused on Doran as if he was staring into his soul, trying to find out the truth. Doran sensed a large gulp forming in his throat, he knew Zyair was a very shrewd man and was only hoping that all the threats he had given Skyla to keep her mouth shut would be enough.

Zyair and Amsilia took Skyla to Huria’s house. Huria had already left so she could make proper arrangements. He had forgotten all about his office until Lawrence called him and he had to tell him everything that had transpired.

"Cancel all my meetings and tell Gairo to handle the office in my absence. I won’t be there today," he informed a very disturbed Lawrence.

"I will visit in the evening, take all the time you need and take care of Miss Skyla." As much as Lawrence wanted to be there for Skyla he knew he had to be here at the company with Mr. Gairo.

It was afternoon when Skyla was finally discharged and allowed to go home. The doctor had prescribed two weeks’ rest so her injuries could heal.

Zyair still hadn’t gotten a chance to speak to her. He couldn’t help but stare at her from his rearview mirror.

Her mother-in-law was holding her and her head rested on her shoulder. There was not a trace of a smile on her gorgeous and yet bruised face. Only lines of worry and pain.

His temper flared and jaw ticked seeing her injuries and those scarlet lips which had forgotten to smile or speak.

If only he could just damn the consequences and take her straight to his home. At times his mind did wander to dark places and he would think of ending Doran’s life so she would be free of him, once and for all.

The story she had told the police had so many holes and he knew deep into his marrow that Doran was somehow involved in whatever had gone down. All he had to do was get to the bottom of it and break the hands of those who dared raise them on her.

Reaching Huria’s house Skyla was settled in the room Huria had prepared for her. Amsilia wanted to stay but Huria didn’t want to entertain her, she held her equally responsible for Skyla’s abuse. How could she not control her son?

"I would like to stay with her for the night," Amsilia requested Huria, once they had closed the door to her room and stood outside.

"That’s not necessary, I am more than capable of taking care of her. You can visit in the morning," she flatly refused in a rigid tone. Amsilia awkwardly smiled and answered.

"I know you will take care of her, you are an amazing friend. I will visit tomorrow."

"Mrs Blackthorn, I will drop you home. I am leaving too," Zyair informed her, he only wanted to go home, change and return here.

"Thank you, Mr Zyair, that will be very kind of you." Amsilia was highly impressed with this gentleman whom she had observed was so caring towards her daughter-in-law, so much more than her good-for-nothing son was.
