Chapter 69: Texting With Boss In Middle Of Night

Reaching his room Zyair took off his mask, stripped away his clothes and took a shower to quell the tempest that had originated inside his chest. Someone almost hurt her on his watch, wasn’t it enough that her husband was already abusive? ƒreewebɳovel.com

His hands rested on the marble wall as the cold droplets of water landed on his corded back and trickled down the one-winged angel tattoo that had been singed in his skin with black ink.

The pendant of one winged angel hung from his neck. The water droplets dripped down from it.

Numerous burn marks littered his sinewy athletic body, enough people had seen and hurt it, he was not ready to share it with anyone else now, except her. When and if only she would belong to him.

Turning off the shower, Zyair grabbed a towel and wrapped it around his tapered waist. Taking another small towel in his hand he began to dry his wet hair and exited the bathroom.

Grabbing his night trousers he put them on, not bothering with a shirt, letting it remain on the chair. He carefully placed the towels back instead of throwing them all around his room. Everything was meticulously arranged in its proper place.

He climbed into his bed and lay down, the events of today were reeling in his mind.

If it wasn’t for the fear that Doran would hurt Skyla knowing what had transpired, Zyair would have dragged Preston to the police station and filed a report.

He still didn’t want to let this go, today it was Skyla and he was there to save her. What if he tried this with some other innocent woman? Likes of him didn’t deserve to roam freely in society.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a beep from his phone. On any other day, he would have never bothered checking it, leaving it for Lawrence. But a sliver of hope that it might be from Skyla had him reaching out and grabbing it from the table.

He quickly swiped it and her name flashed across his phone, instantly putting a smile on his face. Zyair had hardly ever opened a message with such alacrity as he did in that instant.

[Sir! I forgot to return your coat jacket. I will do it tomorrow.]

Her innocent message made him heartily chuckle. She was still awake. The desire to say that she could keep it was on the tip of his tongue but her obnoxious husband wouldn’t like his wife having another man’s jacket.

[Miss Skyla, do you always fret about such small issues? (n_n)] He typed a reply and also sent a smiling emoji so she wouldn’t think he was being serious.

[No, no. I didn’t want you to believe I was hoarding your jacket. (o_o)]

Skyla was huddled up in her bed in the same dress she had been wearing. His jacket was still snugly wrapped around her frame, somehow she believed the comforting warmth would evaporate if she took it off.

His unique and intoxicating scent seemed to have been sewn within the very fabric and against all her strict principles, she kept wearing and sniffing it. She needed someone’s presence tonight. Her boss was her saviour and she wasn’t hurting anyone by seeking a shred of his affection.

Her husband had always been absent, emotionally and physically. He only touched her to leave marks. She craved to be explored by gentleness.

[You are not, I believe you.] Zyair typed quickly. With only a wall in between, none of them wanted to stop talking to the other.

One sought any semblance of affection while the other just needed a reason to keep talking.

[I hope I am not disturbing you. Were you about to sleep?] Skyla sent her next text, her heart anticipating him to say no. The three dots told her that he was typing and she waited with a bated breath when the text appeared.

[Sleep has never been my companion. It would be my pleasure if you could keep me company.]

Skyla read it twice and wondered what it was that had stolen this amazing man’s sleep. She herself had lost the euphoric feelings that blissful slumber brought people. She hardly had a peaceful sleep, mostly she would wake up in the middle of the night with a palpitating heart or panic attacks.

[If I may ask, any particular reason why insomnia became your friend? Just for the sake of a joke, you are not married. It’s mostly marital shenanigans which make someone lose their sleep. Hehe. (- _ o)] Skyla added a winking emoji so he would know she was just cracking a joke.

But Zyair knew she was speaking from experience, making him wonder how messed up her relationship was with her husband. He knew they didn’t have children but Zyair had no clue that Doran didn’t even touch his wife.

[Realities of life are mostly bitter, Miss Skyla. Only half of the truth even meets the eye. And marriage is such a big commitment, it brings so many challenges. It’s certainly not for me or I would even lose the fragments of sleep I get here and there.]

His text hit her directly in the heart, how true his words were. She was relieved that her boss was content with being how he was. But she had this feeling that he felt alone.

[No man is ever an island, everyone needs someone to confide in, to feel loved by, to pour their hearts out. I hope one day you will find that special someone too, Mr Zyair (^ o ^)]

Zyair grinned ear to ear while reading her text, the cute emoji reminded him of her smiling face.

How should he ever tell her that the only woman he had ever wanted was already taken and he was ready to move the mountains and cross the rivers to win her over?

He was going to rain so much love on her that one day she would come willingly to him. That space between them will end and every despicable person standing in their way will cease to exist.

Until that day, he would keep trying. He beamed with mischief and asked.

[Someone bold enough to get near me and creep into my cold heart? Do you think such a woman exists? You know I don’t like being touched by them.]

After hitting send, Zyair placed his phone down on his chest so her name rested exactly where the beats erupted from inside his ribcage and now he waited for her answer.
