Chapter 41: Isn’t She Pretty?
Zyair changed into a comfy T-shirt and trousers for the night. He had planned to return to his apartment for the night but seeing his mother’s expectant eyes he decided to stay with her for a few more days.
Lawrence had gone home after dinner and a few more raucous verbal fights with Bitu. While Zyair stayed with his mom talking and telling her about his day.
"I hired a new secretary," he told her as both of them sat by the fireplace and sipped on cardamom tea. Bitu was perched on his shoulder.
"Oh! Good, what’s his name?" his mom asked, picking her cup from the pitcher and taking a sip.
"She and her name is Skyla," he took a small swig and his mother spit out the tea she had just taken. He quickly grabbed a tissue from the tissue box and handed it over to her.
"Are you alright?" he asked with concern as Meena wiped her face and turned her head to gaze at her son with surprise written in bold letters on it.
"You hired a girl as your secretary?" the disbelief in her voice made Zyair knowingly smile. He placed the delicate cup on the pitcher before speaking.
"I did, it’s a strategic move. Her husband’s company B-Couture just came under our web as well. Hiring her to work for me will keep him grounded," Zyair smoothly answered if it wasn’t a big deal at all.
"I understand but will you be comfortable?" his mother’s brows had slightly creased knowing too well that he was never comfortable near women.
"I will be, don’t worry. She is an intelligent lady and I am sure will turn out to be an asset to our company," he responded while picking up his cup again.
"Lady. Lady. Lady," Bitu picked up another word and ranted.
"I believe in you my son and I am extremely proud of you at the same time as well for trying to step out of your comfort zone. I know it’s not an easy endeavour for you," she gushed at him, her beautiful features always mellowed down for him.
"Thanks, mom. I wish Dad was here. I miss him," Zyair had this saddened look in his eyes and Meena heavily sighed.
"I wish the same."
They reminisced about his memories for a while until it was late at night.
"You should rest son, you must be tired after such a long day," Meena got up from her seat and Zyair followed.
"Let’s meet for breakfast, good night Mom," he gave his mother a warm smile.
"Good night dear," Zyair walked his mother to her room and then went to his. Montague and Meena had arranged a room for him so he could stay over. He had been occupying it for the last two months now and didn’t seem like he would be leaving it any time soon.
Entering his room, he went to his bathroom and stood by the mirror, watching his reflection. The face he hid from the world for they were not ready to accept him for who he was. The judgemental world will topple the life he had built. He washed it with cold water and grabbed a towel to dry it.
Zyair came out into the room and Bitu flew and perched himself on his shoulder. He reached for the folder he had brought home from work. It contained the pictures for Skyla’s ID and the drawing she had made that day.
Bitu watched from his shoulder with his eyes fixated on the picture of Skyla.
"Isn’t she pretty?" Zyair slowly asked with a sigh. His eyes held this unique affection for this girl and he had big plans regarding her.
"Pretty. Pretty. Pretty," he ranted and loudly whistled, giving his consent that Skyla was indeed just that. freewebnovel.cσ๓
"I know, Bitu. Look how creative she is, I am going to ensure that she reaches her full potential," his fingers traced her cheeks and he wished they would become fluffy again. He was going to feed her a lot during lunch hours.
Zyair then took out the form she had filled out with her personal information and copied her number from there.
Taking out his cell phone he added her number to his contact list and saved it with her name. fгeewebnovёl.com
Carefully placing everything back, Zyair proceeded to his bed and lay down on it. His right hand rested under his head while his left took out that one-winged angel pendant and out of habit he placed it on his lips.
It placated him and soothed his fluttering heart. He had been a bit anxious from the moment he had met this girl with red hair and with his better judgment he knew she was going to creep under his skin.
"Pretty?" Bitu flew over to his chest and began to nibble with the chain of the pendant. He was still talking about the pretty girl he had just seen.
"Yes, Bitu. I will meet that pretty girl tomorrow and if you are lucky, I will let you meet her too. But you have to be a good birdie in front of her. No name-calling," he instructed while patting his head.
Bitu happily purred under his touch. He was extremely attached to him. Two years ago Zyair had found him outside in the garden, mangled and covered in blood. He was just a chick at that time, stolen from his nest by an eagle who accidentally dropped him in his parent’s garden.
Zyair had a thing for broken animals and humans. He wanted to fix them up. He had nursed the bird to life and now he followed Zyair everywhere. Both of them enjoyed each other’s company and had become best pals.
"Good. Good," Bitu wanted to meet the pretty lady with red hair. Zyair laughed at his enthusiasm and patted his head some more.
"Patience, Bitu."
With Skyla’s thoughts swirling through his mind and a cockish smile etched on his face, Zyair went to sleep that day. His heart was excited to see her tomorrow and many days more to come.
