Chapter 272: Bad Soup
"You are quiet, what’s wrong?" Skyla asked her best friend as both of them went out for lunch. It had been a month since Skyla had returned from her honeymoon and they hadn’t gotten time to get together until today.
Huria sighed with a huff. "It’s Rais’s mother, no matter what I try, we can’t seem to get along. Let’s say she is not very amicable."
Skyla’s forehead slightly wrinkled as Mother-in-laws can be tricky, especially the ones who are too attached to their sons. But I am sure you will win her over."
"Frankly speaking, she is a high society sob, a typical specimen of what we define as ’an obnoxious high maintenance socialite’ who believes she is better than us. I would have handled her alright but she says these mean things with a pretty smile that crawls under my skin and I want to punch her."
Huria didn’t tell Skyla that Jenny had insulted her and Zyair and that was the biggest issue Huria had with her fox-like mother-in-law. The woman was now interfering in her and Rais’s personal life, acting all caring. But Huria knew she was only fishing for anything to rile her up and make her lose her cool. ƒrēewebnovel.com
"Ah! I am sorry Huria, you have to deal with someone like that. Rais is so nice, I never would have imagined his mother would be like that."
"Yeah, he is not a fan either," Huria said with another sigh. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Their food had arrived so silence fell between them. The server placed the spicy shrimp soup and other dishes down on the table.
Shrimp soup was Skyla’s favourite but today the smell wafting from it seemed unpleasant and she wrinkled her nose.
The more she smelled it, the more she didn’t want to drink it. Although the weather had gotten chilly and it was her who insisted on having it. Seemed like she lost her appetite merely by smelling it.
Maybe it was not freshly made.
"Huria, does the soup smell fresh to you?"
Skyla wearily asked, still looking confused.
"Yes! It smells so good. You don’t like it?" Huria questioned, staring at the bowl of soup but finding nothing wrong with it. It was a five-star restaurant, they wouldn’t dare serve bad soup.
"I am not sure, let me give it a try."
Unwillingly she poured herself a little and tried to take a small sip of it through the soup spoon.
But the aroma wafted through her nose and churned her stomach, and not in a good way.
Quickly she covered her mouth and rushed to the restroom in the back. Concerned, Huria followed on her trail.
Skyla entered an unoccupied stall and retched in the toilet. Huria held her hair up and watched her friend empty her bowels, the breakfast she had was not nothing but smelly vomit.
"Uggh!" She cried out as she retched some more while Huria gently rubbed her back. She let her get it all out and then guided her outside to help her clean up.
"You ok? I am going to screw them. How dare they serve us bad soup?" Huria was livid as she cleaned Skyla’s face with a tissue.
"I am not sure what happened but as soon as I smelled it, I felt nauseated but it’s strange that you didn’t." Skyla wondered out aloud, checking her dress for any drops of vomit she might have split on her immaculate white dress.
And then it clicked with Huria and her face brightened like the morning sun at the thought. She almost shrieked out aloud but it was just a possibility for now until it was confirmed.
"I am taking you to the hospital. It could be serious, come." Huria discarded the used tissue paper in the dustbin and linked her arm with Skyla to guide her out.
"Hospital? I am not ill, it might be some bug. I am not going to a hospital for that." Skyla protested, her eyebrows bunched together.
"We are, grab your bag."
Huria paid the bill even with Skyla’s arguing and soon they were en route to the hospital.
"You are only being dramatic Huria. There is nothing wrong with me," Skyla scowled from the passenger seat. Her mood was slightly ruined for she wanted to have lunch with her friend and here they were heading to the hospital without having lunch.
"I am not, Sky. Trust me." She meaningfully smiled and kept driving.
Parking outside the hospital, both of them got down and made their way inside. Asking at the reception Huria took her straight to the general physician’s room.
"Hello!" Both of them greeted the middle-aged doctor as they entered. She gestured for them to take their seats.
"Hello! How many I help you?" The doctor pasted a smile on her face, she appeared tired.
"My friend here just threw up and is feeling nauseated. The food was fresh and she barely took a spoonful. She recently returned from her honeymoon a month ago though," Huria naughtily added the last part to steer the doctor in that direction as well.
Skyla narrowed her eyes at her friend, wondering what her throwing up had to do with her honeymoon. Seeing that mischievous smile on Huria’s face, Skyla’s mind went in that direction as well.
"Ohh!" She uttered in a slight shock, a little hope rekindled in her chest like a flickering wing of a butterfly.
"What did you take for breakfast? Let me run some blood tests and everything will be clear." The doctor plucked out a black pen from the penholder and began to scribble on the notepad.
"Just some pancakes and fruit, all home-cooked," Skyla informed the doctor, trying to peek at what he was writing.
"Do you have any tummy ache or did you feel nauseated before?" Doctor asked, while still scribbling on the paper.
"No, I felt just fine till this afternoon," Skyla answered, raking her mind to see if she had been feeling ill before.
"When was your last period?" The doctor finally asked, lifting her head and Huria snickered.
"Umm ,it has been about a month and a few days."
"I see, well it means that you might be pregnant. But it’s such an early stage that ultrasound won’t reveal much. So we will wait for the blood test report which will take a day. Can you come back tomorrow?" Doctor’s words echoed in her brain, especially a very particular word.
Pregnant???
The word sent a thrill running through Skyla and she couldn’t hide the smile that appeared on her lips. Huria was clapping with her fingertips, her grin was wider than Skyla’s.
"Of course!"
"Since it could be pregnancy, I don’t want to give any medicine. If symptoms persist you can always come back again," The doctor instructed, making both the girls nod in unison.
"Thank you!" Skyla thanked the doctor and both of them left the office.
"Heavens, Skyla. I might be becoming an aunt. This is big." Huria had her right in her embrace as soon as they exited the office, her voice and grin were dancing on the precipice of euphoria.
"It’s not confirmed yet," Skyla pointed out, dampening her spirit.
"Let’s change that. You my friend are going to be peeing on a stick. I know I know, they are not hundred per cent accurate but I have a feeling we are getting two red lines."
