Chapter 227: Let’s Begin

The next few days were like living in hell for Skyla and Zyair. Except a few media channels who remained loyal to Zyair and didn’t butcher his character, everyone else turned their backs to him.

They were constantly bullied, online and offline. Media followed their every step, hurling hurtful questions, character assassinating them and whatnot.

Zyair had become quieter, he hardly spoke as several investors pulled out of his business, several companies terminated their contracts and ended their collaborations. Some clients parted ways from him as well, not wanting to buy from someone with such a past.

Even some very important employees left the company, they believed their reputation had been tarnished. Besides, they didn’t wish to continue under someone who used to be a call-boy. frёeωebɳovel.com

Rais stood beside him in this difficult time. He extended extra support to him by signing another deal with Kincaid International as he came to visit him one day. Unbeknownst to Zyair, his visit was planned.

"I don’t care about the past, you have been like an elder brother and mentor to me. My company has progressed and benefitted twice the amount because of our collaboration. I am indebted to you and will always be," Rais gratefully informed him, keeping Zyair distracted.

"I appreciate it, Rais." Zyair felt this small tingle of hope in his heart, he had chosen the right people to surround himself with, they hadn’t disappointed.

"I have another business proposal. If you are free we can discuss in detail." Rais was earlier requested by Skyla to keep Zyair occupied.

Today was the day she was holding a press conference and she didn’t wish for Zyair to know or attend. They will tear him apart with heart breaking questions. She would take the brunt of everything in his place.

"Of course!" While Zyair and Rais discussed their business proposal Skyla was getting ready for the press conference. She had spent the last few days gathering every evidence she could to liberate her man, to tell the world his real story.

The event hall of Kincaid International was brimming with hundreds of media personnel who had been invited for her press conference. They were dying to hear their official answer to the burning questions.

Skyla was a nervous wreck as went through all the details yet again, Lawrence, Huria and Mawar were there for her.

"I am proud of you, Skyla. This will not be easy but this is what needs to be done to shut their mouths. Remember, it’s only going to last a little while and no matter what they say, they are insignificant. Only Mr Zyair matters right now," Huria offered last minute advice to her best friend while firmly holding her shoulders.

"Yes, I am only doing this for him. Wish me luck and don’t let him know that I am doing this without him, he will freak out." Skyla’s determined eyes wavered to her friends.

"Good luck, I know you will do great. And Rais has it covered, Zyair won’t know," Lawrence assured her as he stood close by with Mawar. Both of them could be seen together too often now and had gone pretty close.

"We all believe in you, Skyla. And we are right here just a few meters away, won’t let anything happen to you. Just put an end to it in case it becomes too much and the media team will handle everything else." Mawar stepped closer to her and embraced Skyla. She had dyed her shades of blue now, in the memory of Nanami Sensei.

"I know, thank you for being here for me."

Skyla smoothened her white buttoned down blouse and adjusted the pin in her hair. She was ready to face the world and put everyone in their place, especially the people who had dared hurt him.

"I will catch you guys later." Skyla strode away on confident steps, keeping her spine like a rod, not a shard of reluctance or nervousness could be traced in her gait or face.

Her friends clasped their hands together, they had fixed a big screen to watch the press conference. Mawar gripped Lawrence’s arm in anticipation.

She sauntered inside the teeming hall from the side door. The stage had been set on a raised platform with a single chair, an elongated table and mics for her. Behind her was a white screen and a projector had been set up.

The hall was buzzing with activity as every journalist, reporter, press and media representative in the city had jammed packed it.

Skyla quietly took her seat and faced the expectant eyes of these so-called human beings, although they didn’t possess kindness in their hearts or could see others as humans. All they wanted to do was rip others apart with their stinging questions so they could fill their gossip columns and raise the rating of their channels, newspapers and social media.

Murmurs and shouting began seeing her, as everyone wished to get an answer and be the first one to announce it.

Skyla clasped her hands on the hard table and fixed a very fake smile on her purple shaded lips. Her insides squirmed and clenched seeing a sea of fakeness stretched as far as she could see but she didn’t falter.

Adjusting the mic in front of her, she began.

"Good morning! Everyone. Thank you for gathering here today. All of your burning questions will be answered today but I request patience. I will only answer one question at a time so we will be passing on only one mic. Once you ask your question, wait for the answer and don’t interrupt me in between. Let’s begin."

She was so poised, so calm like a spring breeze but inside her the anger simmered like a hungry dragon who wished to devour them all and spit out their bones.

How dare they hurt her man and make him cry?

Every time she thought of the moments he had broken down in her arms, more anger birthed inside her and hardened her soft heart for these people.

No sympathy had been left inside her now for these fakes.

"You may ask your first question?" She pointed to a middle aged journalist who had an evil smirk on his face, his lips twisted as he asked with a certain haughtiness to his voice.

"Where is Mr Zyair or should we say Calix aka Caeco?" They had dug out everything related to him, everything he had buried to take a fresh turn. But the world wouldn’t let him.

"He won’t be attending the Press Conference, as his media representative, his personal secretary and now his fiancée, I will be answering on his behalf. His time is too precious to be wasted on such trivial matters. He is taking care of a very important business deal, right now."

She answered, reflecting the same haughtiness he had shown towards her. The first bomb had been dropped on the media as a buzz went around the hall. The cameras began to roll and click, it was being live telecasted on all the news channels and miscellaneous social media platforms.

Did she say his fiancée?

Their mouths hung open at this piece of news.
