Chapter 106: She Recognises Him
(This special Chapter is dedicated to all the lovely readers who are supporting me. Please, continue doing that.)
The rage had consumed his entirety that day. The self-control he had experienced for so long crumbled, the mask of calmness had cracked fully. Even after beating the crap out of Doran he still wasn’t satisfied.
He stared out of his window, the night had spread its dark wings and a storm brewed at the horizon. The lightning cracked, whipping the darkness every few seconds, followed by thunderous roars.
It had been an hour since his encounter with Doran and yet he couldn’t bring himself to calm his inner demons today. That’s what he had feared, to lose control someday.
Earlier when he had discovered the truth he had gone to see Skyla but instead he heard their conversation. When Doran exited her office, he completely lost it.
He had to see her now. He wasn’t in control like he mostly was but he had to see how much damage was done to her this time around, under his roof. He finally picked up his phone and called her.
She picked up on the third bell, her voice sounded broken, and his heart hurt in the worst ways as she uttered.
"Sir!"
"Please! Come to my office," his tone gentle.
He waited, very very impatiently. His heart went into a frenzy instead of easing down.
Finally, her small knock came on his door and he wanted to wrench it open and engulf her in his arms. Instead, he gave his usual command.
"You may enter!"
The door noiselessly slid open and she filled his dark world with her light. Although that light seemed to be diminishing with every passing day.
He breathed heavily and took a peek by slightly turning his head, his hands clasped behind his back and body facing the window.
Her face was coated with a thick layer of make-up again. His jaw ticked and hardened as granite. Turning his head away he began to glance at the stormy weather.
"You called for me," she asked, her voice devoid of emotions and seeming so tired.
"Yes, send the message on the company server for early pack-up and an off-day tomorrow. The weather warning is severe and I don’t want anyone getting caught in case it floods," he informed her, keeping his eyes glued on the weather outside.
"Sir!" She did as was told and typed the message before sending it over. Once she was done he asked her to place the tablet on his desk.
He then spoke again but it was something Skyla wasn’t expecting.
"I heard Doran yelling at you today, he has been thrown out. I don’t tolerate such behaviour on the premises of my company, especially when it comes down to you."
The silky softness in his voice had an edge to it today as if he was trying to restrain himself.
’Me? Why is he always so concerned about me? I get his kindness but he goes out of his way and now throwing out Doran will cause even more problems for me.’
Skyla’s thoughts were a jungle of twisting vines of her fears and her inquisitive longings regarding this man in front of her. So today she couldn’t help but ask him.
The electricity crackled and illuminated the dark office of Zyair Kincaid.
"Why are you helping me? Why do you care?" she slowly asked, watching the backside of his outline. His head slightly tilted without his body moving, so he could inspect her with one eye.
Silence, he was a very patient man.
"Come closer, Skyla," he broke it with his enigmatic voice.
She was confused, he didn’t like women in his proximity. He didn’t hate them, he just avoided their touch and wanted them to remain at least a distance of five feet from him. This was a company rule and every employee knew it.
She remained frozen when he spoke in that sultry voice of his again. A voice she always thought she had known from her past.
"Please!"
Her brain finally commanded her legs to shuffle forward and her heels clicked on the marble floor.
Once she was in his reach, he lightly grabbed her arm and pinned her against the tinted window. His sudden action stole her very breath and left her grappling.
The storm flashed outside and its flashes against the ever-darkening sky were reflected in his eyes; which always reminded her of a serene ocean. Vast and deep, hiding so many secrets.
His large hand cupped her delicate face and his thumb gently rubbed the thick layer of makeup she wore.
"No!" She tried to stop him, clearly panicking.
But he seized her other hand and held it in a grip which wouldn’t hurt her and continued in his relentless task of removing the foundation. Revealing the purplish bruises on her face.
She squirmed in his hold like a hooked fish, tears singed the back of her eyes until one trickled down and hit his thumb. This pinched his heart in the worst possible ways. He slowly brushed it aside. Skyla had almost forgotten a man’s touch could be so gentle.
She was an emotional mess and his next words had her crumbling in his hold.
"You think I don’t know that he abuses you, hurts you and hits you. And you hide it behind make-up. You can fool others, Skyla Adams, you can’t fool me. For I have seen it before." ƒreewebɳovel.com
He used her old name. How did he know her surname?
"H–How? Just how?" she stammered, her lips quivering and the minty green of her eyes melded into the oceanic blue of his. His face was a breath away from hers. The mask hid the anguish that was etched on it.
"You don’t remember me, Skyla. But I remember you, clear as the day. You have been my salvation more than once in this wretched life of mine. And now I have returned to claim you. All of you." He let go of her hands and cupping her face, joined his forehead with hers and heavily seethed out.
"Divorce your husband or I will destroy him. He is done hurting you."
Skyla shook like the last autumn leaf on a barren tree, amidst a turbulent storm. Her mind reeled back 9 years to one particular night when she met a mysterious stranger. He wore a mask too and she gasped.
Could it be that her past was not in the past anymore and was here to finally liberate her?
The events of that year, the most painful year of Skyla’s life, began to unfold and unfurl for her.
When her senses returned from spiralling into the past, the wheels of her mind turned and everything began to fall into place like jenga pieces making perfect sense now.
His care.
His affections.
His sultry gaze.
His hidden face.
She breathed in soaking all of his positive masculinity, that unique oceanic scent which she remembered now belonged to the man who had made love to her for the very first time. The only man who had done that.
Her shocked eyes welled with tears of recognition.
The man from her dreams.
Was here.
His warm hands branded her with his fire that burnt deep.
His intensity that dwelled deep into her marrow.
His passion which saturated each and every pore of her body.
And his untamed emotions which had seeped into her very soul.
Today she felt it all as her body craved him like an addiction, the kind she knew was lethal to her existence and yet she couldn’t help but melt like ice under fire.
Her lips trembled as her hands shifted and she finally touched his face., making him open those entrancing eyes of his. She murmured, out of breath.
"Calix? Is that you?"
