Chapter 144: 144: Ivan: I’ve Got An Offer You Can’t Refuse

Butcher’s face darkened. With a gloomy expression, he pulled up the message Hughie had sent and showed it to Becca.

"Those supes are the root cause of all the chaos in America. They’re the original sin. If we don’t wipe them out, this country will burn in war one day. You can imagine what kind of disaster they’ll cause if they ever lose control."

"That’s impossible. At least Ryan won’t lose control." Becca argued.

"You sure?" Butcher put the phone away, pulled up the video of Ryan at the selection event, and handed it to her.

"If that werewolf hadn’t dodged, Ryan’s laser eyes would have blown a hole straight through his heart. He’s a monster. A super monster born from Homelander."

"That’s not true!"

Even with the evidence right in front of her, Becca refused to accept it. "Wait. I need to make a call."

She dialed Ivan’s number with shaking hands.

"Hello, Ms. Becca. What’s so important that you’re calling me this late?"

"Listen, Greevs! I want to end our cooperation. This is the price for lying to me."

Silence stretched on the other end for a few seconds.

Then Ivan’s voice came back. "Ms. Becca, hand the phone to Butcher. I want to talk to him."

"Butcher isn’t here. I don’t know what you’re talking about." Becca shot a nervous glance at Butcher behind her while her mind spun wildly. How the hell did he know Butcher was here? Had he been exposed?

She even thought about hanging up and telling Butcher to run.

On the other end, Ivan stood by the window in his villa and spoke calmly. "You call me this late to end our deal, which means you must have seen the video of Ryan. The only video of Ryan that blew up online recently was from the selection event. Your phone can make calls, but it can’t access the internet.

Plus your calls are strictly monitored by Vought. Nobody could have told you about it.

So if I’m right, Butcher found you and showed you that video of Ryan losing control."

The second Ivan finished speaking,

Becca nearly dropped the phone like it was a snake. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"Who are you talking to?" Butcher walked over, looking confused by Becca’s panicked face.

"This is Greevs, Vice President of Vought."

Becca put the call on speaker so Ivan’s voice filled the car.

"Greevs? Do I know you?"

Butcher took the phone from Becca, frowning as he held it to his ear.

"You don’t know me, but I know you. The infamous leader of a terrorist organization. Killer of Translucent. The man who exposed Compound V. The mastermind trying to destroy Vought and orchestrating terrorist attacks. Billy Butcher." Ivan’s voice stayed completely calm, no emotion at all.

"I didn’t kill Translucent... whatever. Say whatever you want. I’m not admitting shit." Butcher figured the guy might be stalling to send people after him. He mouthed silently to Becca, "Keys. Car keys."

Becca understood and quickly pulled the keys from her pocket and handed them over.

"You think I’m stalling to send people after you? Put the keys down. Without Vought’s permission, you won’t get out of here even in Becca’s car." Ivan was in his villa on the outskirts of New York, but he knew exactly what Butcher was doing.

"You’re smart. No wonder you’re Vought’s Vice President. So what do you want to work with me on?"

Butcher’s face darkened as he handed the keys back to Becca.

"Why so quiet? If you’re not planning to grab me, that means I’m useful to you. No need to play games. Just say it."

"Smart. But it’s not me who wants to work with you. It’s Homelander." Ivan’s lips curved into a slight smile as he held the phone.

"Homelander?"

Now even Butcher was confused about what kind of game Ivan was playing. After what happened with Becca, he and Homelander basically had a blood feud going. No way they could ever work together.

"You know Stormfront. She’s getting way too popular lately and it’s threatening Homelander’s position. He wants you to kill her. In return, he’ll get you legal access to the secret facility where Becca is being held." Ivan kept it short and direct.

The confusion on Butcher’s face vanished in an instant. He suddenly understood. This was just superhero infighting. Still, it sounded exactly like something Homelander would do. He didn’t think Greevs was lying to him.

There was no point in lying.

"I can kill Stormfront. But I want to take Becca with me." Butcher’s voice gained some confidence.

Ivan hesitated for a moment before answering. "Vought needs to know Becca’s location and has the right to monitor her life."

"Deal!" Butcher agreed without hesitation.

In his mind, verbal agreements were worthless. Once Becca was out of there, he would immediately arrange to get her out of the country.

Once they left America, they would be free as birds.

Of course, Ivan knew exactly what Butcher was thinking. As long as he had Ryan, Becca wasn’t going anywhere.

"To make sure you don’t fuck it up with Stormfront, Homelander will send a few supes to work with you. I’ll send you the details for the next steps by text. Oh, and I already cleared it with the base. You can walk out whenever you want." Ivan hung up.

The second the call ended, Becca, who had been waiting anxiously, asked, "What happened? What did you agree to? Is he willing to let you leave?"

Butcher nodded. To keep her from worrying, he didn’t tell her the full details of their deal.

"He said if I do him a favor, I can take you out of here."

"Is it dangerous?" Becca pressed.

"Just a small thing. Easy."

Butcher didn’t stick around. He handed the phone back to Becca and walked out of the base normally.

Outside, Butcher called his aunt Judy.

She lived in a quiet community on the outskirts of New York and had been a major player in the underground scene for decades.

She was basically a drug lord with a massive stash of illegal goods and enough chemicals stored in barrels to qualify as a real terrorist.

"Hey, good evening, Auntie." ƒгeewebnovёl.com

"You only call when you want something. Spit it out." Judy was currently in her "candy house" cooking up product. The so-called candy house was her secret lab for making drugs. The walls were made of steel thick enough to rival a bank vault.

"I need you to prepare some chewing gum ingredients for me. A few dozen kilos should do." A diabolical grin spread across Butcher’s face.

He wasn’t just planning to kill Stormfront.
