Chapter 110: 110: Even Jesus had Judas among his disciples
Heh~
Back in the villa living room, Ivan looked at the disconnected call on his phone and smirked. He tossed it onto the sofa.
Homelander’s weakness? He narrowed his eyes. Now was definitely not the time to bring Soldier Boy into the picture.
That bastard was just as unstable as Homelander — another bomb he couldn’t control. Dealing with one was already a headache. No need to add a second. And trying to steal his powers right now would be pointless.
He still hadn’t even gotten his hands on Homelander’s abilities yet.
Ivan pulled up the system panel.

He turned and headed down to the basement.
Two large bulges started growing on his back. Once he reached the empty underground space, the bulges twisted and stretched into a pair of arms.
Woosh!
In a flash, they exploded outward with countless sharp bone thorns that formed two massive, terrifying wings spanning several meters.
"Cool.."
Ivan wrapped his wings around two training dummies nearby. Thick black smoke poured out, and within seconds both dummies melted into puddles of dark liquid.
He flicked his wings hard, slinging the sticky black goo away.
Then he walked over to a table holding several iron cages. Inside were white mice he’d bought for testing.
The mice sensed him coming and huddled together, trembling.
"Controlling other creatures through blood works, but there are limits." Ivan held his hand over one cage. A thin red thread of blood dripped from his fingertip.
The moment it touched the mouse, the blood thread wriggled like it was alive and burrowed straight into the animal’s body.
At first, nothing happened. Then the mouse started convulsing violently before collapsing onto the wood shavings.
A few seconds later it staggered back to its feet. Its movements were stiff, but it was moving.
"Still not enough."
Ivan dropped a second thread of blood into another mouse. This one perked up right away, moving almost normally.
His blood carried pieces of his consciousness. The more he injected, the more natural the control became. But once the blood left his body, it was like a plant without roots — it would eventually fade away.
The stronger the target, the more blood it took. Something like Homelander would probably drain him dry and only give him a few seconds of control at best. His own consciousness and cellular level just weren’t strong enough yet.
He could also possess people directly, but the host usually ended up brain dead.
Overall, Ivan saw real potential in this power. If he could fuse more blood-related abilities, it would become a lot more complete.
...
Meanwhile.
Starlight bought a late-night train ticket and headed back to Des Moines. She needed to hear the truth from her mother’s own mouth.
After pushing hard, her mom finally broke and told her everything.
The second she learned she really was just another Vought lab experiment, Starlight’s entire worldview shattered.
All those years of believing she was God’s chosen child turned into a sick fucking joke.
She felt completely lost and nauseous at the same time. She saw herself as nothing more than a synthetic freak.
"How much did they pay you?" Starlight demanded, staring at her mother.
"They didn’t pay me. Just covered the basic medical bills," her mother said, shaking her head.
"Why?" Starlight asked, confused. freewebnovёl.ƈom
"Because they promised you’d get to live an extraordinary life. Powerful, successful, special." Her mother reached out to stroke Starlight’s hair. "What parent wouldn’t want that for their child..."
Starlight slapped her hand away. "You made me believe I was chosen by God!"
"Aren’t you? God brought Vought to our door. That’s how you were born."
Staring at her mother, who had sold her out for vanity and a shot at fame, Starlight’s rage boiled over.
She screamed at her, voice cracking with fury. Her eyes burned with betrayal. Every excuse and apology from her mother sounded like complete bullshit.
Finally, Starlight stormed out of the house.
...
Early the next morning.
Homelander pushed open the door to Ivan’s office and dropped several clear photos of Butcher and the others on the desk.
"Greevs, according to Vought’s investigation, these are the real bastards behind Translucent’s murder. I want you to put them on every watchlist online. The second anyone spots them, you report it straight to me."
"No problem." Ivan picked up the photos. They were high-quality full-body shots. He had no idea where Homelander dug them up from.
"Make it quick," Homelander said coldly.
"Trust the power of the internet."
Ivan smiled and gathered up the photos.
"By the way, there’s a video circulating online. It got banned fast but people are still talking about it." Ivan glanced at his computer screen.
"You mean the one where the super-terrorist wiped out that SEAL team?" Homelander flashed his perfect, all-American smile. He stood by the floor-to-ceiling window with his hands behind his back, looking pretty damn pleased with himself.
Ivan nodded. "Yeah. Some people are already questioning Vought. If these are God’s children, why the hell are they turning into terrorists?"
Homelander frowned and turned back to Ivan. "Can you track the IP addresses of those people?"
"I can, but there are a lot of them. It’ll take some time to pull them all."
"Hmm. Forget it. Hunting them down one by one is too much hassle. Handle the whole thing yourself. Shut those assholes up as fast as possible." With the military bill about to pass, Homelander didn’t want any extra noise.
"Even Jesus had Judas among his disciples. Makes sense that some of God’s children turned out rotten too, right?" Ivan said with a light chuckle.
"Wow. You are good. You truly are good." Homelander smiled and placed a hand on Ivan’s shoulder, clearly satisfied.
