Chapter 25: No More Blind Dates
"Do we have to walk hand in hand every single time? Give me some space. You’re all over me," Arianna said with a tight lip as she tried to keep a composed expression on her face.
Daemon stared down at her with an eyebrow arched up.
"You were the one who said in the contract that we could show love and affection to each other in public."
"Yes I said that, but that doesn’t mean you get to breathe on my neck like a fucking sloth."
"But we’re married now." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Arianna sighed as she pinched her temple in frustration.
If only she’d known he was going to be so clingy over some contract marriage, she would have stated in a section that they needed to keep their relationship private.
At least, in that way, she wouldn’t have him breathing down on her neck, his arm on her waist every passing second.
After delivering her gift to the Griffin couple, they’d left to interact with some of the guests who Daemon had gladly told them were married.
They’d given a normal reaction—slightly baffled about the entire situation especially since Arianna was known to be married to Logan Henderson about two months ago.
Due to her father’s rule as the Don of La Cosa Nostra, the identity of his children won’t be revealed to the public until the age of twenty-one for protection since enemies could be lurking at every corner. And the best way to get to such an important person like her father was by attacking his children.
Since Arianna had left her home at the age of nineteen, two years before her media debut and identity revelation, no one knew she was the daughter of Jeremy Wesley even though she bore the same last name as the man.
If they knew she was his daughter, they would have been giving them the strangest looks.
"I know that," she huffed. "But stop being all over me." She rolled her eyes back as she stepped away from him, walking faster so he wouldn’t be able to catch up to her.
This time around, she didn’t care if she was being watched anymore. It wasn’t like she needed to prove anything to anyone.
Arianna grabbed a seat to rest her legs from walking around in heels for minutes.
"How much longer do I have to stay here?" She mumbled under her breath as she massaged her feet.
Then she heard someone probing on the seat next to her.
She looked up, only to find Lilian sitting as if she’d just run a marathon, her chest panting.
"Why do you look like that?" Arianna asked, curiosity evident in her tone.
"It’s all because of that idiot. That fucker. The audacity of him to show his face here and ask if we could go on a date." Her fist was clenched, her teeth gnashing. "Where did he pluck his audacity from, especially with his receding hairline?"
Arianna’s lips tightened as she tried to hold back her laughter.
"The blind dates are becoming unbearable, huh?"
"Don’t get me started." Lilian rubbed her temples as if the thoughts were forbidden and should stay forbidden. "The other one I was set up on was bald, Arianna. His head was glistening as if he’d rubbed baby oil on it, shining like a fucking solar panel."
Arianna snickered as she hovered her hand right across her lips, her eyes turning wet.
"And the other one, my mum had given him my number and he bragged that he was 6’2 as if that’s some accomplishment. We agreed to meet up and you won’t believe what I found out."
"I think I will."
"He’s not 6’2," she said in frustration. "We were standing neck to neck and mind you, I’m 5’7, Arianna. And this man who claimed to be 6’2 was standing neck to neck with me. I could even see the center of his head with my heels on."
Then Lilian sighed, her eyes closed, trying to digest the torment she’d faced for the past few weeks.
"Is it wrong to be unmarried in this life? I’m not even thirty yet. Well, I’ll be on my next birthday but that’s not the point. My parents are making it seem as if I’ve started growing gray hair on my head. It’s not that serious."
Arianna sighed as she held her friend’s hand. "Maybe, you should get a man who’ll pretend to be your husband for a few months, then you two will pretend to have the biggest argument with so many hurtful things said to you. Then, you two break up. After that, I doubt your parents are going to try forcing you to marry again because they’ll think you’re healing from your recent heartbreak. Don’t forget to deeply involve them in your relationship and your talks for the future."
Lilian’s eyes gleamed.
"No, Lilian. I was just joking. Please, don’t do that." freewebnøvel.com
The brightness in Lilian’s eyes instantly went off.
Lilian played with her champagne glass, sulking. "Then what should I do? Should I just run away?"
Arianna quickly shook her head. "Don’t do that either!"
She was about to continue when she suddenly saw a figure behind Lilian walking up to them with long strides. It was a couple.
Once Arianna saw them, she rolled her eyes back.
"There goes my peace."
Logan stopped in front of Arianna, not bothering to spare Lilian a look.
"We need to talk in private," he said, like a command.
"I’m not going anywhere with you," she said, then faced Lilian, ignoring their presence.
"It’s important," Vivian said, clutching her small baby bump, a deadpan look on her face.
"Whatever you want to say, you can say it in front of me, unless you’re up to no good," Lilian said, glaring at both of them.
Vivian’s lips thinned as she looked at Lilian, and then at Arianna.
Arianna narrowed her eyes on her. If they were planning on hurting her, they’d have the opportunity to do so if she was alone with them.
But then again, curiosity got the better of her.
She turned to Lilian. "I’ll be right back." Then she faced Logan and Vivian. "Lead the way."
