Chapter 1364: Chapter 725: Mo Han and Wanwan Arc – Unexplainable Anger
Just from the way her mother treated her, how could she ever have imagined that she wasn’t her mother’s biological child?
Xi Mohan’s expression froze, his gaze falling on her little face already streaked with tears. His eyes darkened, yet he still didn’t speak, which was as good as an admission.
Seeing Xi Mohan stay silent in tacit acknowledgement, her tears fell even harder. She lowered her head and stared at her own hand that had somehow clutched the man’s shirt. After blinking blankly a few times, her tone laced with mockery as she spoke, "So I’m not my mother’s biological daughter. So you already knew long ago, but you chose not to tell me..."
Right now, all Ning Wan felt was a wrenching pain in her chest, as if a giant hand had suddenly closed around her heart, squeezing so hard she couldn’t breathe.
And she clearly knew this matter had nothing to do with Xi Mohan to begin with. Even if he’d known and hadn’t told her, he would have had his reasons. Yet she just couldn’t help wanting to blame him now, as if doing so might make her feel a little better.
Auntie Li looked at Ning Wan, whose emotions were already starting to spiral out of control, and instantly panicked a little. "What’s going on? Why is Miss Ning Wan crying?"
Hearing the accusation and anger thick in Ning Wan’s voice, the man’s expression didn’t change. He glanced at Auntie Li and said, "Auntie Li, you can go down first."
Although Auntie Li was worried about Ning Wan, hearing her employer’s words, she knew he must have a way to coax Miss Ning Wan. She nodded immediately. "Alright, alright, I’ll go down and get busy. Sir, please don’t be too hard on Miss Ning Wan."
Xi Mohan responded with a faint "mm," which counted as agreement.
To be honest, just seeing Ning Wan like this right now—he clearly hadn’t bullied her, hadn’t even said a word—yet with that tear-streaked, pitiful little face, it really did look as if he’d wronged her terribly.
After Auntie Li left, the man’s deep, dark eyes simply fixed on her like that. Only when her emotions had calmed down a little did his thin lips part as he asked lightly, "Done crying?"
Hearing him ask that, Ning Wan froze for a second, then lowered her head and gave a small nod.
The man pulled a few tissues from the box at the side and roughly helped her wipe away the tear stains on her face. His thin lips moved slightly. "You know now, don’t you?"
"But you clearly knew before, and you didn’t tell me."
Xi Mohan’s expression didn’t change. "I only found out not long ago myself."
Ning Wan was stunned, suddenly at a loss for what to say.
He was saying he’d just found out, so what else could she even say.
After wiping the tears from her face, Xi Mohan threw the tissues away. Then he lowered his eyes, looking down at her from above as he spoke. "Ning Wan, even if you know now that you’re not the biological daughter of the mother you’ve been calling ’Mom’ for more than ten years, what can you do about it? Go look for your birth mother?"
His tone was clearly mild, without the slightest harshness.
Yet for some reason, Ning Wan was suddenly cowed by his words, and only after a long while did she lower her head as he looked down at her and said calmly, "Ning Wan, you’re not a child anymore. You should understand that your mother had her reasons for not telling you this."
There was a lot of meaning layered in those words, and he could only hope Ning Wan would understand on her own.
