Chapter 122: Can I Get Out Of Here?

Sienna’s thumb hovered over Zachary’s phone number.

Even now, remembering his true identity still felt strange. The gentleman who kept appearing in her life turned out to be far more powerful than she had originally thought. He is not just Zach but Zachary Sterling. The very thought makes her feel worried.

’Should I call him?’ she thought, but hurriedly put the thought aside. ’Absolutely not.’

She quickly refused the idea.

What would he think if he knew that she was currently in the police station as a murder suspect? He might look at her with utter disappointment or even disgust.

Sienna immediately shook her head. "No! No!" she whispered weakly to herself. "I can’t bother him now."

Slowly, her thumb moved away from his name. But somehow, that only made her chest ache more. Because deep inside, she knew Zachary was probably the only person who would actually come if she called.

Slowly, her entire body suddenly felt heavy and weak. Completely drained. Her hand holding the phone dropped onto her lap.

Sienna lowered her head, staring blankly at the dark screen.

After another minute, the tears she had been desperately holding back finally escaped. One drop slid down her cheek. Then another. And another.

She cried silently, too exhausted to even make a sound anymore.

After what felt like another endless stretch of silence, Sienna finally heard the sound of footsteps approaching her.

"Miss Adams—"

The police officer’s voice startled her. fгeewebnovёl.com

She lifted her head and quickly wiped tears before looking at the officer.

Her cheeks still felt damp. She hated crying in front of people. Especially here in front of police officers who already looked at her like she was guilty.

"Y-Yes?" she answered softly.

The officer stepped farther into the room and stood near her, his expression tired and impatient. Dark circles under his eyes indicated he had likely been working since yesterday afternoon. She could see that this man no longer had the energy to comfort a crying woman in an interrogation room at almost midnight.

"Did you manage to call your lawyer?" he asked directly.

The question made her chest ache almost instantly.

She lowered her gaze toward her trembling hands resting in her lap. For a moment, she couldn’t answer him. Her throat felt painfully tight again.

Slowly, she shook her head.

The officer frowned slightly. "How about your family or friends?" he asked again.

Sienna pressed her lips together before speaking quietly.

"No," she whispered weakly. "They seem to sleep now."

The officer gave a slight nod, though his expression did not soften much. He looked as if he had already expected that answer.

"Alright," he said shortly before turning around as if preparing to leave again.

The moment she realized he was about to walk out, panic immediately spread through Sienna’s chest. "Sir, please wait."

She hurriedly pushed herself up from the chair. But the moment she stood, her knees instantly weakened beneath her.

Hours spent sitting in the cold, cramped room, combined with exhaustion, stress, hunger, and lack of sleep, had drained her of too much strength. Her legs suddenly felt numb, and her vision spun. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"Aaahh—"

She nearly collapsed forward if her hand had not quickly grabbed the edge of the metal table.

"Miss Adams!"

The officer quickly approached her, visibly alarmed.

"Are you alright?"

Sienna inhaled sharply and shook her head before he could touch her arm.

"I’m fine," she said quickly, though her voice sounded far from convincing.

She kept gripping the table tightly while trying to steady herself.

The officer stared at her for a moment longer before finally stepping back again.

Sienna swallowed hard.

"Sir..." she started quietly.

The officer looked at her again.

"Can I get out of here?" she asked carefully. "I mean... I already gave my statement. I promise I won’t go anywhere. If you need me again, I’ll come back anytime."

The room became silent for several seconds.

Sienna knew how desperate she sounded, but she didn’t care anymore. She just wanted to leave this horrible place. She wanted to shower, sleep properly, and stop feeling like a criminal.

Unfortunately, the officer’s answer shattered that tiny hope almost immediately.

"Regrettably, that is not possible," he replied professionally. "You must remain here until your attorney arrives or until someone can provide a personal guarantee on your behalf."

Sienna’s shoulders slowly dropped.

The little strength she had left seemed to disappear completely.

’Of course they won’t. Why would they let me go?’

Benjamin Foster was lying unconscious in a hospital bed right now. And she was the woman who hit him. No matter how many times she explained herself, the situation still looked terrible.

Slowly, Sienna lowered herself back into the chair again. The cold metal chair felt even more uncomfortable now. The officer watched her quietly for a moment before speaking again.

"Miss Adams, I need you to return your cell phone. But, don’t worry, you can make another call tomorrow morning."

For some reason, those words made loneliness crash into her all over again. Her phone was the only thing connecting her to the outside world right now.

The only thing reminding her was that she still had people somewhere beyond these gray walls.

But once again, she had no choice.

Sienna turned off her phone before handing it over.

The officer nodded and left the room.

Then the door closed again.

The sound echoed loudly inside the room.

And suddenly, silence swallowed everything once more.

Sienna remained sitting there motionless.

Her eyes slowly stared at the empty table in front of her while her thoughts drifted in every direction.

She thought about Benjamin. About the blood. About the employees staring at her in horror. About the CCTV cameras no longer working.

Everything felt like some cruel joke. And the worst part was that nobody believed her.

Eventually, exhaustion began overpowering her fear.

Her head hurts badly now. Her stomach twisted painfully from hunger. Even her eyes burned from crying too much.

Without realizing it, Sienna slowly folded her hands on the table and rested her head on them.

At first, she only wanted to close her eyes for just one moment.

But somewhere between exhaustion and hopelessness, sleep quietly took over her body.
