Chapter 22: A Brave Beta Be Like
Suddenly, Serge heard a unique sound. It was hard to pinpoint, like a whispering wind, a gentle ocean wave, or maybe even a soft moonbeam. But it was calming, brushing away his fear and confusion, helping him think straight again.
With a bit of effort, Serge got to his feet. A little white Chinchilla cat appeared in front of him.
Over time, his psychic incarnation had grown stronger and could get pretty big. He was one of the top students at the beta academy, but right now, he was scared out of his mind. His psychic incarnation was now as small as his courage.
The tiny white kitten, facing the gruesome creature heading his way, puffed up his fur, curved his body, lifted his tail, and let out a sharp meow.
"It’s hopeless," Serge thought sadly, "What can a beta’s psychic power do in a situation like this?"
He backed away slowly until he felt the cold wall against his back. There was nowhere else to run.
The monster with the long black hair pulled itself away from the lifeless body. Its greasy hair swept over the dried-up body and across the pool of blood on the floor, spreading the red liquid all over. It spotted Serge and the small cat, it looked happy, its head swaying as it moved towards them.
The tiny psychic incarnation stood in front of Serge. Its skinny back legs were shaking as it hissed threats. Serge bent down to pick it up and hold it close. If they were going to die, he didn’t want his little cat to suffer first.
The long needle-like mouthpiece got closer. Even from the corner of his eye, Serge could clearly see the flesh and blood stuck to it.
Serge hugged the soft kitten tighter.
Suddenly, a storm of bullets rained from above, roaring as they dug into the monster’s head. The head, now full of bullet holes, looked completely stunned.
Even though it was shot multiple times in seconds, it was still alive. It rolled away quickly. Its black and white eyes, looking eerily human, were spinning, as if trying to escape.
A black military boot came down hard, stomping on the head and crushing the monster’s skull along with its long black hair.
A mix of red blood and some weird colored liquid splashed on Serge’s face. He wasn’t sure if it was the monster’s or from its recent meal.
His savior was an alpha, a woman with her hair braided into a single plait that hung behind her. She was dressed in the Blimp Guard’s uniform and carried an old, basic long-barreled gun. Her waist and hips were packed with various weapons, and her large, eagle-like wings were vanishing behind her.
She had jumped down from the open roof, landing on the monster she had filled with bullets. She noticed Serge and casually said, "Well, a little beta cat." She bent down to pet the cat in Serge’s arms, and without even looking, she fired off another round of bullets.
Another creature with messy hair twisted its head quickly to avoid the bullets and slid along the wall to escape.
From the sudden appearance of the monster to now, only a short time had passed. But for these young ones raised in the Tower, it felt like they were in a terrifying hell that lasted forever. Two of their friends had died in the chaos, their drained bodies still lying in pools of blood.
Outside the window, the alphas from the blimp guards finally showed up. Some were riding their own psychic forms, flying in the sky, fighting against the monstrous heads clustering around the blimp. Some Alphas with bird-like psychic forms had partially transformed, their backs sprouting wings like birds, allowing them to fly skillfully in the sky.
The alphas crashed into the mutants.
The creatures trying to break in through the windows were attracted by those fresh flesh and blood outside, many of them laughing crazily, crying out in strange voices, and stumbling towards the alphas. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"Everyone, move. Close the curtains, block the holes with tables," the alpha who had entered the cabin said, shooting at the monster while giving orders.
"Let the alphas handle the monsters outside. As long as we block the windows, the creatures won’t see us and will stop trying to get in."
The blimp rocked in the air as the monsters attacked. Wind blew in through the holes that had been opened. Scary human heads drooled against the glass. Inside the cabin was a mess, with dead bodies, remnants of monsters, and blood everywhere.
Everyone was shaking; no one dared to go near the windows.
Serge thought he heard that strange noise again. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Out of everyone, only a girl dressed in black sportswear suit was moving. She stepped over the sticky blood and debris, reaching out to pull down the window shades on both sides of the blimp.
She had been doing this since the beginning, but no one had noticed because of the chaos. She moved quickly within the rocking and swaying interior of the blimp. As the strange faces outside the windows reached out their arms, she quickly closed the window shades, blocking their view.
"You too," the alpha kicked Serge. She yelled at the dazed people, "Move if you don’t want to die. If you want to die, you can jump now and save the blimp some energy."
Serge stumbled a few steps, but strangely, his fear seemed to fade significantly. He gritted his teeth, crawling towards the howling wind from the open hole, to lift a large table that had flipped over and block the hole the monsters had made.
The sound of gunfire was almost against his head, a head trying to crawl in through the hole was smashed by the alpha’s bullets. It stuck to the outside of the hole, its long tongue hanging out in death.
Serge tried not to look, straining against the howling wind to hold up the table.
Help came from the other side. It was Nicole, looking as white-faced as he felt.
Nicole, usually dressed up fancy because she came from a high-up family, looked just like him now, hair all over the place and blood-stained. She reached her hand out, shaky but determined, and helped him lift the table.
They were both shaking, but together they pushed. Finally, the big dining table was propped up against the busted entrance, stopping the wild wind from whipping inside the blimp.
