Chapter 185: Trace Exposed (2)
Ren responded super quickly, and just like that, he shut the barrier again, blocking off his psychic world from others. But then, a really strong psychic power, like the sharp part of a huge poisonous wasp of a scorpion, smashed through and hit him hard in the forehead.
This force was harmful, pointy, freezing, stiff, enormous, and totally scary. It went deep into Ren’s mind, filled with the Queen’s anger, violently moving around inside Ren’s mind.
It felt like his brain was getting ripped apart, the pain was super bad. Ren fell down towards the courtyard. He smashed onto the hard ground a few floors below, gritting his teeth, determined not to black out, and quickly blocking off his mind from others once more.
Inside his mind, the deep ocean formed a strong and wide barrier, hiding everything at the bottom of the water, and keeping out anyone trying to peek in from the outside.
The harmful pointed part stuck in his mind got cut off, left in the soft and pretty ocean floor. The Queen couldn’t find him anymore.
Even with a pounding headache, Ren could hear lots of mixed-up footsteps coming. These people were rushing really fast, moving past the hallway near him, heading up to where he had just fallen from.
The moment a bit of his psychic power slipped out, tons of alphas were drawn to it, a loud group rushing towards that floor. Using this small moment, Brandon in the elevator met up with friends waiting for him downstairs and managed to get away from the Tower while everything was crazy.
The staircase was filled with loud yelling and cluttered footsteps. Nobody realized that the person who had purposefully shown where he was had already dropped several floors down.
But soon, they would start looking in more places.
Ren tried hard to move, finding a hidden spot in the shadows, tucking himself into a dark nook to rest. As the awful pain in his head got a little better, he pushed himself to stand up and find a place to hide.
The sounds of the soldiers looking for him were getting nearer, reaching the surrounding areas. The noise of running was coming from everywhere.
Dodging them was getting tough. Ren hid in a tiny staircase, just barely avoiding a whole group of alphas walking by the entrance.
Lots of searching groups were moving closely back and forth, including really strong people with amazing senses. A few times, Ren almost got caught.
Regular bursts of pain in his head stopped Ren from focusing completely. Leaning against the chilly wall, his face showed stress, the pain making sweat appear on his forehead.
He just had to beat another lone alpha, then he could take that person’s clothes and go back to the alpha base, mixing in with the group.
Ren held his sore forehead, thinking, "I wish Kestrel was here with me."
This idea kept coming back in his mind, letting him know something wasn’t right. It felt like something was messing with his thoughts, making him miss Kestrel way more than usual.
At the highest point of the Tower, the Queen settled back on her throne.
"Kestrel and the others are just knocked out, they aren’t seriously hurt. They were given a mild injection and have been taken downstairs to rest," Luther carefully informed her, leading the alphas to stand in front of the throne.
On the massive throne made from gemstone, the Queen sat with her face covered by a thin veil, her red lips bright and full, her skin as white and chilly as the stone she was sitting on. She hummed softly, her face showing no emotions.
"We’ve locked the Tower’s entrances like you asked; now, not even a fly could get out," he added, trying to figure out what she was thinking. "But, we’ve checked every corner on all ten levels of the Tower and we haven’t found any rebels, could it be..."
"Are you happy, Luther?" The Queen cut him off suddenly. "Brandon got away."
Luther felt his back get sweaty, "Your Majesty, I’m sorry?"
Inside, he was really scared and nervous, realizing that he actually felt a bit glad, even very satisfied.
He was kind of confused himself; even though he promised to be loyal to the Queen, he now felt good about Brandon, a traitor, getting away.
As if she could hear his secret thoughts and feelings, the Queen said in a cold voice, "You’re celebrating too soon. That traitor’s psychic landscape is already broken. Even if he gets away from here, he can’t avoid mutating. And the small person who started all this trouble..."
The Queen’s pale fingers reached out from the throne, holding Luther’s face and making him look up. In front of everyone, her grip got stronger until he couldn’t hide it anymore, his eyes showing he felt embarrassed.
"It’s just some clever tricks," the Queen said calmly on the throne. "Just a small player. Now that the gates are shut, there’s no place to go, and soon he will be exposed. Once we catch him, I’ll have him put on a show for everyone. He might even work for you or be someone you know. He won’t have the same luck as you and Brandon; he won’t even get the chance to die. I’ll force him to keep dancing, crying and saying sorry. At that time, you’ll have to watch from here." freewebnovёl.ƈom
The stone-cold fingers let go of Luther, and she clicked her fingers lightly.
Snap! The sharp noise echoed in the large hall.
At that second, every alpha in the Tower heard this noise clearly in their heads.
On a lower floor of the Tower, Ren, who had just dodged another group of alphas, suddenly heard a clear noise in his head. Like lighting a fuse, a trigger, the leftover psychic power that hadn’t completely gone away in his mind, that poisonous wasp’s sharp part, suddenly moved further into his thoughts, setting something off.
