Chapter 177: Attacking The Tower (2)
The Queen’s mental manipulation was sneaky and quiet, yet within Kestrel’s psychic world, amidst the rolling waves of her consciousness, a radiant light burst forth, chasing away the heavy mist.
That light helped Kestrel rediscover her true essence.
This beacon of hope and determination pierced through the overwhelming darkness, cementing Kestrel’s purpose right then and there.
Everything around her felt tainted, strange, and even if they had the force of a mighty tsunami, they couldn’t eat away at or shake her unwavering spirit and instill fear in her any longer.
Kestrel gazed at the pale-faced queen standing in front of her, and in that split second, she realized the Queen wasn’t as all-powerful or undefeatable as she once believed. In the queen’s gentle exhale, Kestrel thought she detected a trace of sadness.
Suddenly, a mild rumble echoed from the Tower, reminiscent of a massive explosion’s aftermath, causing the steadfast Tower to quiver.
At the palace’s pinnacle, atop the Tower, the faint tremors from the blast were palpable.
Every individual within the Tower, in that brief moment, displayed looks of astonishment and confusion. After all, an assault like this had never occurred here in their memory.
The Tower was massive, reaching high into the clouds and shining with a sacred light, standing as a symbol of the Empire. For the people, it was like an unmovable landmark they always looked up to.
Inside the Tower, security was super tight. It had the best royal guards and the newest security gadgets. Plus, it had that special sacred light shining on it. Since people started remembering things, no one had ever broken into the Tower, and nobody had ever messed with this special place glowing with that sacred light.
Right then, the quiet queen turned to look, her serious eyes staring hard through her veil. It felt like her icy, winter-like gaze could go straight through everything and look right down to the Tower’s bottom.
Down at the Tower’s base, there was thick smoke from an explosion and loud warning sounds.
Two girls, the ones who caused the explosion, were quickly moving through the fire. They kept their heads low because of the super-hot flames and used hand signals to talk:
"Let’s get out now."
They were strong alphas, moving super fast like birds flying low over a chilly pond, even with all the loud noises. The guards didn’t have time to do anything. The girls had a secret escape plan, and with all the smoke and fire, they got away easily.
Once they were almost out of the Tower and into the sunny outside, one girl was so happy she made a victory sign to her friend. But then, suddenly, a super cold feeling, like a snow slide from the top of the Tower, hit them. The girl tried to shout, took a couple of brave steps, but then just froze between the sun and shade.
Her friend didn’t wait. She quickly used an injection thingy on herself. Right after, her eyes lit up super bright like alphas do. She then picked up her frozen friend and ran super fast.
They kept running, helped by the drug that made them feel nothing, so the cold feeling couldn’t catch them.
A car was waiting not too far away to pick them up. The two alphas, who made the Tower’s base go boom, hopped in and zoomed off to Imperial Nexus’s edge.
"Boom done. Stay safe, Avenger." In the car, the escaping alpha sent a message to a secret opticomputer number.
Everywhere in the Tower, people were in a big panic because of the explosion’s noise.
Whether it was the school for betas down low, the living areas for alphas, labs, farms, or the bigshot Empire people’s offices way up high, everyone was shocked, trying to find out what was happening and asking each other.
The royal guards were running around super fast.
Finance Minister Viktor jumped up from his fancy chair, asking, "What’s up? Why did everything shake? What just happened?" He looked really confused.
He shouted a few times, but it looked like all the alphas outside had taken off. No one replied.
His room was in the best spot. It was quiet, away from everyone else, big, and super fancy, showing just how important he was.
The room had too many things burning incense. Viktor suddenly felt dizzy and had a hard time staying on his feet.
Just then, a tall person walked into the room, standing in front of the light. Viktor had to squint to see who it was, and then he recognized him. It was an alpha named Ren, a member of the royal guards.
"There’s been a small attack. But don’t worry, Luther is on it," Ren said in a calm voice as he stepped in and shut the big, fancy door behind him.
Ren sounded so calm that Viktor felt better. As Ren got closer, the smoke in the room showed his good-looking face. The way the lights hit him made him look even more handsome. Half his face was in light, the other in shadow, making him look really cool.
He looked sharp and bright, not like the fancy folks who were always showing off.
Viktor loved bright, pretty things. And he liked making pretty things look bad. Smiling, he told Ren to come closer, "I’m glad Luther’s taking care of it. Come... nearer."
Ren did as he was told, acting all polite and respectful. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
But then, in a split second, something shiny flashed. Viktor looked down in shock to see his own hand, covered in blood, on the floor. And then, his own head fell next to it.
His eyes were wide open. He couldn’t understand what just happened. He was supposed to be the most important person in the royal family.
Ren moved the heavy, shiny chair and found a hidden door underneath. After cleaning his sword, he went down into the secret passageway.
Right under the big minister’s desk at the top of the Tower was this hidden spot. It made Ren wonder what secrets it kept.
...
Back in the palace, the Queen was sitting on her big throne. She looked away as if she felt something was up. She gave a small, chilly smile.
"This is interesting. Looks like a little bug got in." Then She turned to Kestrel and said, "I think I need to deal with this myself. Will you be okay here?"
