Chapter 1568: The Void Lotus Pool
"First, the old master's sacred-tier cultivation art, the Nine Heavens Stellar Art. He created it by treating the countless stars as pieces on a chessboard, drawing insight from them and comprehending the power of the Void. Based on this alone, Master's talent is already comparable to the great powers of ancient times."
"To create a sacred-tier art on one's own is indeed remarkable." Ling Feng nodded slightly, his respect for the Void Sovereign deepening.
"Second, the Twin Blades of the Void. Though we have been sealed for thousands of years, we are both immortal-grade weapons, and high-tier at that." Xu Ling spoke with open pride.
Ling Feng only smiled faintly. To him, the Ten Directions Eradicator was still the sword best suited for him. Immortal weapons were impressive, but he believed the Ten Directions Eradicator would one day grow into a peerless divine artifact.
Xu Ling continued, "And also..."
"Wait. Let's set the rest aside for now."
Ling Feng interrupted him and said in a steady voice, "I heard there is a Void Lotus Pool within the tomb. I only need a section of Void Lotus Root. Am I allowed to take it?"
"That is not impossible."
Xu Ling glanced at him before replying, "In theory, since you are the old master's successor, everything in this tomb is yours to take. However, the old master's coffin rests within the Void Lotus Pool. Unless it is absolutely necessary, it is best not to disturb his rest."
"I'm sorry, but it is necessary."
Ling Feng met Xu Ling's gaze, his expression resolute. "I would rather take nothing else, but I must have a section of Void Lotus Root."
"No! Even if you refuse everything, you still have to take me!"
The moment Ling Feng said he wanted nothing, Wushuang grabbed his arm and started making a fuss. "Come on, Big Brother, why are you still talking? It is just a trip to the Void Lotus Pool. Hurry up!"
"I know, stop rushing me!"
Xu Ling looked annoyed.
Ling Feng could not help but shake his head with a smile. These two sword spirits had no principles at all. He almost felt it was a waste for the Void Sovereign to have left them behind.
Still, it worked in his favor. Otherwise, he might have had to argue much more.
"Master, follow me."
Xu Ling was far more composed than Wushuang. He led Ling Feng out of the secret chamber. After walking for quite some time, they finally arrived at a vast lotus pool.
At the center stood an enormous lotus flower, several zhang across. Resting atop it was a transparent crystal coffin, placed upright.
From a distance, the figure inside appeared perfectly preserved, as if merely asleep. The Void Sovereign looked strikingly young. Without knowing his history, one might think he was only in his early twenties.
To remain uncorrupted after thousands of years, he was truly extraordinary.
"Master!"
At the sight of the Void Sovereign's body, both sword spirits immediately knelt toward the crystal coffin, bowing deeply with their heads to the ground. Though proud by nature, they showed absolute reverence toward their master.
"Senior Void Sovereign."
Ling Feng also bowed from afar and said slowly, "Forgive this disturbance. It is not my intention to intrude upon your rest, but I must take a section of Void Lotus Root to save a companion. I ask for your understanding if I cause any offense."
After speaking, Ling Feng knelt on one knee and bowed before stepping toward the lotus pool, preparing to extract the root.
At that moment, a small golden fish swam up from the depths of the pool. It was only palm-sized, its body gleaming gold. Its gills puffed in and out like a soft little sphere, and its bright eyes fixed directly on Ling Feng with surprising intelligence.
Ling Feng's eyes flickered. A fish in this pool?
If it lived here, feeding on lotus seeds and roots, it was surely no ordinary creature.
As Ling Feng approached, the fish suddenly dove beneath the surface. A moment later, with a sharp splash, a streak of gold burst out of the water. The little fish leapt right in front of him, flapping its tail vigorously.
Ling Feng crouched and examined it, intending to return it to the pool. But the fish opened its mouth and spat out a lotus root longer than its own body.
The root was dark in color, faintly glowing with a deep radiance. It pulsed with dense Void energy and was clearly among the finest in the entire pool.
"So you are giving me the Void Lotus Root. Thank you."
A smile appeared on Ling Feng's face. He had worried that entering the pool might disturb the Void Sovereign's rest. He had not expected this fish to be so perceptive.
Carefully storing the lotus root, Ling Feng picked up the fish and placed it back into the pool. "Thank you, little friend. Go on now."
But just as he turned to leave, the fish leapt out again. This time, it landed on his shoulder, its tail flapping wildly as its mouth opened and closed, as if trying to say something.
"Uh... do you want to follow me?"
Ling Feng studied it for a moment. Perhaps it had lived its entire life in this pool, feeding on rare treasures like the Void Lotus, gradually gaining intelligence. Maybe it wanted to see the world beyond.
The little fish flapped happily, clearly agreeing.
"But you are still a fish. You cannot leave the water."
Ling Feng frowned slightly. No matter how unusual it was, it was still a fish.
As if responding to his concern, the fish opened its mouth and spat out a stream of water. The water gathered and formed a small floating river in midair. With a flick, the fish leapt into it and began swimming about excitedly.
Ling Feng's lips twitched. This fish could bring its own river wherever it went.
After a moment of thought, he nodded. "Alright. If you want to come with me, then I will take you along. I suppose you want to see the outside world. I do have a place where you can stay for now. Behave yourself there, and I will introduce you to some new friends later."
The place he had in mind was the Water Elemental Realm within the Five Elements Heavenly Palace.
The Despicable Donkey and Zifeng usually stayed in the Wood Elemental Realm, drawn to its abundant life force. For a water-based creature, the Water Elemental Realm would be a far better fit.
The little fish nodded eagerly. Ling Feng then opened the Five Elements Heavenly Palace and sent it into the Water Elemental Realm. Having never seen such a vast expanse of water, the fish immediately became immersed in the environment, surrounded by rich water spiritual energy.
"That settles it."
Ling Feng let out a breath of relief. He glanced once more at the Void Sovereign's coffin and gave a respectful bow before returning to the two sword spirits.
"The Void Lotus Root has been obtained. We can leave now."
