Chapter 1565: You Won?

"Spare me, Senior, I don't want to die!"

"Senior, how about letting me try the trial again? I... I can definitely win the game this time!"

One after another, the Great Emperor experts trembled where they stood. In the face of life and death, even Great Emperors looked no better than clowns.

Of course, a few still had some backbone. One of them gritted his teeth and said, "Come on then, do it. A head lost is just a scar the size of a bowl. In eighteen years, I'll be a hero again!"

"Pfft..."

Wuya Zi burst out laughing. "Big Brother, I... I really can't hold it in anymore. This is killing me!"

In truth, Spirit Void would not actually kill them. He would only erase their memories of the sacred mausoleum, then send them out of the tomb of the Void Sovereign.

"Mm."

Spirit Void yanked Wuya Zi aside and said coldly, "Enough. Those of you who failed the game, step to the left."

"It's over..."

The Great Emperors who had lost felt their hearts drop. They remembered what Spirit Void had said before. Those who lost would die.

For them, death seemed inevitable.

"Wait!"

At that moment, a slightly anxious voice rang out. It was Illusion Heart Queen, biting her lip as she spoke. "Senior, it seems... someone hasn't come out yet, right?"

After coming out, she had looked around for quite some time but never saw Ling Feng. She could not help asking.

With Ling Feng's talent, there was no way he should still be inside.

"Exactly, Big Brother. Look at you rushing things. The little brother she's rooting for hasn't even come out yet."

Wuya Zi shot Spirit Void a coquettish look. Unfortunately, with his current appearance, the sight was... hard to stomach.

"Ugh..."

Several Great Emperors gagged. Thankfully, they had not eaten before coming, or they might have thrown up.

"Turn your face away!"

Even Spirit Void felt his composure slipping. He took a deep breath and said slowly, "Fine. We'll wait a little longer. That kid is probably unconscious inside by now. The game should have ended within the time it takes to burn a stick of incense."

The Great Emperors who had thought they were about to die felt uneasy. At least now, it seemed they might have one more companion on the road to the Yellow Spring.

Illusion Heart Queen, on the other hand, felt a knot of anxiety tighten in her chest. She silently prayed that Ling Feng had won the game.

At last, an hour passed, yet Ling Feng still did not appear.

Spirit Void lost his patience and shouted toward the secret chamber where Ling Feng was.

There was still no response.

Everyone found it strange. By all logic, Ling Feng should not have fared this poorly.

Still, the game was indeed bizarre. It could stir up all the negative emotions buried deep within one's heart. If one's will was not strong enough, it was easy to sink into it and never escape.

Spirit Void shook his head. "Looks like that kid fainted inside. I expected him to fall short, but being this weak is a bit surprising."

Just then, a figure shot out from the chamber. Ling Feng strode out of the secret chamber with a relaxed smile.

"Sorry, sorry. Kept everyone waiting. I got carried away meditating and lost track of time."

Everyone rolled their eyes. How big did his nerves have to be? In a trial where life and death were at stake, he still managed to sit down and meditate.

"Hmph. Hurry up and get over here."

Spirit Void shot Ling Feng an annoyed look, his face full of disdain. "Kid, there's no need to even check your result, right?"

"Better to check."

Ling Feng lifted his head and looked at Spirit Void. "I actually won the game."

"What? You won?"

This time, both Spirit Void and Wuya Zi were stunned.

They knew very well that Ling Feng had finished the game shortly after it began.

They had assumed he lost completely and was eliminated. Yet now he claimed he had won?

That meant he had cleared the Void game in the time it took to brew a cup of tea.

It was unbelievable.

With a wave of his hand, Spirit Void projected the image of Ling Feng's board onto the luminous screen.

This time, the board looked even cleaner and more orderly.

White pieces.

White pieces.

White pieces.

Nothing but white pieces.

Compared to Illusion Heart Queen's result, it was even cleaner. Not a single black piece remained.

The difference between leaving one black piece and leaving none at all was enormous. On top of that, Ling Feng had only taken the time of a single cup of tea.

"You... you... you defeated every single black chess warrior?"

Spirit Void and Wuya Zi stared at Ling Feng in shock. The surrounding Great Emperors stood frozen in place.

They had thought Ling Feng would simply be another one to die with them. Instead, he turned out to be the best among them all.

"That's great, Ling Feng. You're amazing!"

While everyone else burned with envy, the only one genuinely happy for him was Illusion Heart Queen.

"Not bad, I guess."

Ling Feng nodded at her with a faint smile. His greatest gain this time had been the improvement of his mental state.

A long silence followed.

Then Wuya Zi suddenly burst into loud laughter. "Hahaha! Big Brother, I told you. The one I had my eye on would definitely be the best. See? I already knew he had won when he finished earlier. I just wanted to surprise you. Well? Surprised? Didn't see that coming, did you? Heehee!"

Wuya Zi beamed and turned back toward Ling Feng.

That smile alone was enough to make anyone's skin crawl.

Ling Feng felt a thin sheen of sweat form on his forehead. Something about Wuya Zi's overly coy manner felt very off.

Paired with that massive frame, it was not just strange. It was downright terrifying.

"Oh, give it a rest," Spirit Void snapped. "Who was it that said the kid looked impressive but couldn't deliver, and that he would fail so quickly?"

Ling Feng felt his forehead twitch. For some reason, that line sounded a bit... off.
