Chapter 91: Bad Matchups

"This is my last warning."

"I should be the one warning you, Belian." Sylvia replied sharply.

"You won’t gain anything from beating him up, you know?" Harik said.

"Still... It doesn’t sit well with us, seeing him outside while Mika is being held custody in the tower!" Lily answered vexed.

"..."

Cail watched the four students argue with each other from the backs. He took one step backward.

"Don’t think you can escape from here!"

Sylvia stomped the ground once, causing thick ice spikes to appear. Those ice spikes, which almost reached to her waist, spread further in the direction of Cail.

"Tch...!"

More wind gathered around him as he prepared to dodge.

However, Belian jumped between them.

He pushed his right inflamed palm in the direction of the incoming ice spikes. Then, a fire beam shot out of his hand.

When both of their magic clashed against each other, the fire and ice went upwards for a short moment until both dispersed there.

Small flames and ice pieces were scattered in the air and both of their initial attacks came to a stop.

"I hoped to fight you on a different occasion."

"..."

"Really... That’s too bad." Belian admitted regretfully.

The fog around Sylvia’s hands thickened.

At the same time, Lily also took notice of Cail’s attempt to run away.

She raised her right hand and pointed at him with her index and middle finger, which she pressed together.

At the tip of her fingers, a small fireball appeared. Its size may have been lackluster, but the potency of it only kept on rising as more and more flames gathered in it.

"..."

Lily squinted her eyes and shot the small and compromised beam at Cail.

"!"

Cail, whose back was turned on everyone, looked behind at the fired beam with widened eyes.

But this time, Harik came to his help.

He put his overlapping hands in front of him with the palms facing forward.

A strong and big water jet emerged from his palms.

And again the attack aimed at Cail was neutralized.

Coming into contact with Lily’s beam, the water and fire created an evaporation.

"Run." Harik stated sternly.

"Y-yes...!"

Thus, Cail managed to escape from the scene.

However, Sylvia and Lily were anything but happy with that result.

They redirected their maddened gazes at the two people, who stopped them.

Their classmates and friends. Belian and Harik.

"You can’t catch him anymore." Harik said.

"Do you still wish to continue?" Belian asked.

"Want to see if it’s truly too late?" Sylvia said provokingly.

"We know where’s heading to." Lily added sternly.

Belian sighed.

"Sorry, Harik. But it seems we have to deal with those two."

Harik nodded his head once.

"It’s fire against ice and water against fire. This matchup couldn’t be any worse for you two, you know?" Harik stated.

Around those four, roughly shaped and thick ice walls emerged from the ground, leaving inside enough space for them to move unrestricted.

"W-what is that?!"

"I-ice walls...?"

Students from outside were caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the walls.

"Let’s see for whom this matchup is the worst that could happen to them." Sylvia replied.

"I see."

Belian created a small and thin fire spear in his hands.

"I didn’t really want to do this but you don’t leave me a choice."

He positioned himself for a throw.

In return, Sylvia also prepared herself. She rotated her body to the side and did a half-squat. Her left hand was stretched to the front, while the other hand was retracted to the back.

She took multiple deep breaths and at a certain point, her breath became icy, too.

Not just around her hands, but around her entire body was a freezing fog.

Seeing her immense concentration, Belian could not help but smirk a little.

And without as much as a sound, Belian threw the fire spear at Sylvia.

"..."

Sylvia did not move an inch of her body despite the fire spear coming closer with each passing moment.

"Not yet..."

The area from her fingertips to the upper half of her forearm slowly started to turn into ice.

It was only after the spear was within arm’s reach that her whole body tensed up.

"Ha!"

Using the spin to rotate her body to the front, she pushed her right arm to the front.

And within the brink of a second, the spear and the ground beneath were completely frozen.

"Amazing..." Belian muttered in shock and amazement.

The spear fell to the ground and shattered into multiple pieces.

Sylvia fixed her posture and stood straight. The fog around her lessened and the ice on her right arm began to disappear.

"Wow... It’s rare for Belian’s attacks to get stopped..." Harik remarked equally impressed and surprised when he looked to the side at Belian and Sylvia.

Lily, too, took a deep breath.

"!"

Harik flinched as he noticed her presence right behind him.

Lily’s eyes were firm. Her right arm was in flames.

She was about to grab Harik’s arm with her left hand, but he reflexively jumped into the air away from her.

"That was close..." he murmured in panic.

Her eyes wandered to the sky, where Harik was.

She retracted her arm even more.

"Wait..."

He suddenly realized what her intention was.

"Shit!"

He crossed his arm in front of his chest.

Under his feet, a few large water drops appeared. They grew larger and connected themselves, creating a water ball that engulfed Harik completely.

However, Lily was unfazed by Harik, who protected himself inside the water ball. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"..."

Lily held her breath in as she swung her right hand across the air.

In that short moment, Harik saw great sparkles.

"!"

A great explosion-like sound echoed inside the ice walls, causing even Belian to look their way.

"What was that?!" he wondered baffled.

But the only thing that caught his eye was Harik, who fell down from the sky.

"What the hell..." Harik muttered with a hoarse voice as he got up slowly.

He was covered in dirt and a few burn marks.

Harik looked over to Lily.

"..."

He gritted his teeth, remembering what just happened.

After great sparkles appeared on Lily’s arm, she launched a wide and large fire breath from her hand. The fire breath was akin to that of a dragon like those in the myths.

"Can you stand, Harik?" Belian asked.

"Y-yes..."

The two looked at their opponents.

"This could be more difficult than I thought." Belian confessed, breaking into a slight cold sweat.

"Just how much stronger did they get during that short time span...?" Harik wondered amazed.

"..."

Belian was pondering deeply.

"We have to end this quickly."

"Hm?"

Harik tilted his head.

"The disciplinary committee is on high alert nowadays. If they get the report that we’re fighting then they would without a doubt rush to us. The possibility that Xander comes with them is also high."

"I see... And in order to prevent any of us from getting imprisoned by them, we have to finish this business here before they arrive, right?"

Belian nodded.

"This is a bit early but I will apologize for now." Belian directed those words to the girls.

Especially Sylvia was on guard.

"What are you doing?" Harik asked confused.

Belian was putting his hands beside his waist. It seemed to everyone like he wanted to draw a sword.

However, there was nothing even similar to a sword on his waist.

"This may be your first time seeing it, right?" Belian said in a slightly confident tone.

"To be honest, I only intended to use this when I’m in a life-threatening situation. But I guess, using it now would be the best solution for this situation." he added.

On the left side of his hip, an object shrouded in darkness manifested itself.

It took a sword-like form.

"Let me show you my relic." Belian said.

Sylvia took up her stance and summoned multiple ice splinters in the air above her head.

She pointed her finger at him and following that command, the ice splinters were launched at Belian.

"..."

Belian remained calm.

He took one deep breath.

Fully composed, he swung the dark object across the air.

The ice splinters were nowhere near him and yet, they vaporized in an instant.

"..."

Bewildered, Sylvia looked at the thing in Belian’s hand.

The darkness still did not vanish, showing only the rough appearance of a sword-like weapon.

Belian raised his arm and the sword above his head.

Slowly but surely, the darkness dispersed from the weapon.

But before one of them could get a clear view of the relic, Belian swung it down.

"Should we report this to the disciplinary committee...?"

"I-I don’t know... I think I saw Belian in there..."

Some female students still stood outside, looking at the thick ice walls.

"Maybe- Kyaa!"

A loud bang was heard.

"W-what was that?!"

"..."

The other student looked flabbergasted at the area in front of her.

Not only was one side of the ice wall crumbling down but there was also a long and thin trail of melting ground.

"Kuuh...!" Sylvia groaned in deep pain as she held her left upper arm.

She applied ice to it as it was completely covered in burn marks.

"I understand... So this what your relic does, huh...?"
