Chapter 88: Imprisonment

Two weeks left before the tournament began.

Today was the first day of a new week.

But instead of attending the lessons, Mika was in a cell in the academy’s own jail, which took the shape of a great tower in the midst of trees and bushes.

"..."

Even though it was in the middle of the day, Mika was sleeping on the cold floor made of stones.

In his small cell, which only fit one to two people, was almost nothing. No bed, no chair, no chains and nothing, that could be used as a bed.

There was only a small and dirty bathroom sink.

"Mika Elbar. I’m here again with your food."

"..."

He slowly opened his eyes, when he heard the voice of the person, who took care of the tower’s prisoners. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Said person was also one of the people, who took part in the previous incident, where Mika was taken into custody.

"Lisa Vonder... It’s you again..." he muttered with scorn.

"Yes, it’s me again." she replied.

With her key, she opened up the rusty and barred door of his cell.

"Just like always, you enter my cell like it’s nothing. What if I attacked you?"

"Go ahead if you want to. But are you even capable of that considering your current state?" Lisa responded calmly as she put down his tablet with his food.

And like every other day, his food consisted of some kind of porridge, which neither looked nor tasted good.

"Tch...!" he clicked his tongue.

His body was still covered up in bandages. And at some spots, blood still leaked out a little, coloring the bandage red.

Lisa heaved a little sigh.

"Couldn’t Xander held back a little...?" she muttered.

Mika remembered the day.

After he defeated the Waretin brothers, only Lisa was left.

Even though, his time was up. He still stood a chance against the also exhausted Lisa. But then, Cail appeared, followed up by his older brother and captain of the disciplinary committee, Xander.

In his state at that time, it was impossible for him to win, let alone escape from there.

Mika knew that he could not flee from his imprisonment, thus he rationally admitted his loss.

And yet...

"That bastard... I told him that I would come with you... And yet, he unleashed his magic on me until my mind went black." Mika stated vexed.

"Let me offer you my apology in his stead." Lisa said firmly while she was standing in his cell.

Mika changed his position and sat on the hard ground.

"It won’t change anything if it comes out from your mouth."

He took the food.

"Only two weeks... I will make sure to wipe off his disgusting grin from his face...!" he declared quietly with a frown on his face as he forced the food into his mouth.

"I see."

Lisa turned around and left the cell.

She locked the door and was about to leave.

"Ehm, one last thing..." Mika stopped her.

His voice sounded soft.

"?"

She twisted her neck towards him.

"What is it?"

"...ks...od..." Mika murmured something inaudible. freēwēbnovel.com

"What?"

His cheeks reddened more.

"...thanks for the food..." he repeated embarrassed, averting his gaze from her.

For a moment she was surprised to hear that.

But she quickly formed a smile.

"No problem. It’s my duty, after all." she responded pleased.

"Your duty, huh...?"

She shifted her eyes away again.

"We’ll still see each other every day, but I still wish you good luck in your fight against them." she said as she walked away.

"..."

He still kept on stuffing his mouth with the tasteless porridge.

In the past couple of days, Mika managed to learn more things about the current disciplinary committee.

As he had nothing to do in his cell and as he did not want to talk with the system because the other prisoners would have thought that he would have lost his mind already, he paid attention to the surroundings.

Apparently, on the highest floor of the tower was the disciplinary committee’s headquarters.

The disciplinary committee members he met so far were all second-year students and at least in the red class.

However, aside from one certain person, no one of them took their job seriously.

It was the disciplinary committee’s duty to watch over the prisoners here. But despite that, almost all of them were slacking off, relaxing outside on the benches and chatting with their colleagues.

And because Mika was put in a cell on the ground floor, he could listen to everything they were talking about behind him.

"At a certain level, I pity her." he murmured sternly when he put the empty tablet down.

Aside from Xander, who never showed his face in the tower, only Lisa actually took care of the prisoners by giving out food or other necessities and by checking on them.

"As always, there’s no one guarding this area."

"Belian?" Mika said surprised.

On the other side of the wall, Belian sat down on the bench.

"What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be in the academy?"

"It’s lunchtime."

Mika looked at the tablet.

"Makes sense..." he muttered, smiling lightly.

Belian looked at the sky.

"I wonder... Why did they spare me?"

"..."

Mika leaned on the wall with his back.

He knew exactly why.

Initially, Xander did not really have the intention to throw Mika into the tower. He just wanted to mess around with Belian and him. He joined the fray without even knowing that his members tried to put Mika behind bars.

But his younger brother, Cail, insisted that at least Mika should get taken into custody, ignoring Belian’s presence.

"So? What brings you here during lunchtime? Wouldn’t you rather go and eat something with the others?" Mika asked, switching topics.

"I’m just here to inform you."

"Inform me? About what?"

"About Lily and Sylvia. Those two girls are back."

"What?!"

Mika tensed up a little.

He was at first happy to hear that, but on the other side, he felt bitter.

"Don’t worry. I told them that they shouldn’t come here." Belian stated.

"...Thanks..."

Despite him not saying it, Belian understood him.

Mika wanted their reunion to be a happy one. The last thing he wanted was to let them see him in his current situation.

A month ago, he left the two girls behind without even properly saying goodbye to them.

He wanted to see them again, but not with a wall and bars separating them.

"No need to thank me."

Belian stood up from the bench.

"Will you even make it to our battle against those brothers?" Belian asked.

"Yes, that won’t be a problem. I was told that I had to stay here until the tournament begins."

"I see. Then, I assume that you will miss the Opening Ball?"

"Opening Ball? What’s that?"

"Oh, right, I forgot that you missed a month at the academy. Let me start from the beginning then."

Then, Belian began to explain everything concerning the upcoming tournament.

"The tournament takes place during the month’s entire last week. On the evening of the first day of the week, the Opening Ball will be held. Students and staff members are welcome to join the celebration of the tournament’s start. There will be food, drinks and music. And of course, people who want to attend the ball have to dress accordingly."

"So it’s just a ball for the students to relax before the tournament, huh?"

"Yes. On the following four days, the academy will open its gates for guests from outside."

"And on the last day, the headmaster will hold the award ceremony." Belian added.

"I see..."

Mika sighed.

"I sure would’ve liked to join the Opening Ball..." he stated disappointed.

"Then, should we bring the festivities to you?" Belian joked with a small smile.

"Yeah, that’s a great idea. The disciplinary committee will be overjoyed by your presence here." Mika responded sarcastically.

While the two still talked to each other, Xander, who wore a wide and brown coat, was on the outskirts of Loogam’s capital.

Despite it being in the middle of the day, there were no people passing by as a few disciplinary committee members blocked off every entrance leading to the road Xander was currently on.

Due to his coat and hood, one could not identify him from afar.

He leaned against the wall of a building.

"To make things clear. You will really grant my wish?" he asked in a stern tone.

"I-I’m just a messenger...!"

A random middle-aged man, who was just around the corner, replied.

He also hid himself underneath a coat.

"I-I’m only here to r-relay her message and to report back to her!" the man added nervously.

Xander sighed.

"Whatever, then. Tell her that the security on the fourth day will be a lot weaker. Use that day to come. It will also be the day for the next transfer."

"Y-yes!"

Following that, the man disappeared into the dark alley.

"..."

Xander stared at his palm.

"Soon..."

He smirked widely.

"Soon, I will get my hands on another relic..."
