Chapter 72: Martha’s Report

"What do you want so early in the morning...?" Ophelia yawned as she rubbed her eyes.

"That boy is departing now." Olivia stated relaxed.

She was sitting on the edge of Ophelia’s bed with her side profile facing Ophelia.

"I know."

Olivia kept smirking at the wall.

"Tell me, what do you want from me this time?" Ophelia asked slightly annoyed.

"Nothing much. I just want..."

Olivia twisted her neck to Ophelia.

"...to learn more about Mika Elbar."

"Huh?" Ophelia responded with narrowed eyes.

"You barged into my room first things in the morning and demanded from me that I hand over the information about my student?"

Perhaps it was due to her still being half-asleep that she was more annoyed than usual.

"That’s right. Now tell me, who is he and what kind of abilities does he have?" Olivia asked ignorantly with an innocent grin on her face.

"..."

Ophelia felt her veins bursting, but she soon cooled down.

"Have you asked him already?"

"Yes, but he told me to learn everything from you." Olivia replied bluntly.

Ophelia sighed.

"Fine..." she gave in exhausted.

She knew that Olivia was not a person to tell a lie, no matter how trivial that matter was. Therefore, she concluded that she indeed confronted Mika before coming to her.

"Hehe!" Olivia giggled like a playful child.

And thus, Ophelia proceeded to tell her sister everything Mika told her.

She talked about the voice inside Mika’s head, the system. She talked about Excalibur, one of the heavenly relics, and angels, beings that were still a mystery to mankind. She talked about Mika’s contract with said system and the power he could use thanks to that.

"So as you can see, he goes against any kind of norms of this world. Heck, he even got a new weapon in the form of a spear, which can change its size. My guess is that it is also a so-called heavenly relic. Really... He’s more angel than human." Ophelia followed up even though it sounded like she was venting out her frustration about the absurdity of Mika’s abilities.

"..."

As Olivia continued to listen, her smile gradually vanished and she turned agape slightly. Furthermore, her eyes got bigger in astonishment.

Just like Ophelia back then, Olivia was blown away by the things she heard.

It was as if the door to the unknown was unlocked.

"And then- Hm? What’s wrong?" Ophelia stopped talking when she noticed Olivia standing up.

Her barely-opened mouth quickly transformed into an excited wide grin.

"Hahaha..." she laughed quietly.

"?"

Ophelia tilted her head confused.

"How interesting..." Olivia muttered.

She turned to Ophelia.

"It’s soon time for the tournament season in Loogam, right?"

"Yes, but why do you ask?"

"No particular reason." she replied as she turned her back on Ophelia.

She walked to the door.

"No particular reason..." she repeated barely audible to Ophelia.

Still grinning from one ear to the other, she exited the room.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the south of Malnor.

Deep inside a certain forest, there was a hidden cave.

The interior was too dark to discern the structure. In the middle of a vast space, there was only a small lit torch. However, it only illuminated the spot around it within a small radius.

At the edge of the space, where the dim light could not reach, people from a certain kin relaxed.

"I’m so boooooreeed!"

"Be quiet, I’m trying to sleep here."

"Hey, can we go outside now?"

"Did we receive new orders yet?"

"If I had known that I would hide inside a cave for months, then I would have rather stayed back in our realm..."

"..."

The voices of five people echoed inside the cave.

"Hey, how about a little spar? Does anyone feel like that?"

"Are you serious? If we do that, then this entire cave will collapse."

"Then, how about doing that outside?"

"You want to get noticed by those humans?"

"I’m sick of hearing the same conversation every day..."

Those five kept on arguing until the sixth person raised their voice.

"Someone is coming."

"!"

Everyone was alerted.

The clacking of heels resounded in that vast and wide space within the cave. And based on the intervals of the reverberating sound, the intruder was in a hurry.

The illuminated spot around the torch got trimmed seeming like the darkness was slowly eating its space away.

Then, the new person arrived in front of the torch.

"Martha..."

After recognizing the intruder’s identity, the darkness pulled back from the torch.

"Oh, long time no see, Martha!"

"What are you doing here?"

"Weren’t you with Barnt and Yater?"

"Why in such a hurry?"

"Do you have any news for us?"

They started to talk all over the place again.

"Silence."

On the person’s command, who apparently acted as the group’s leader, everyone instantly turned silent.

"Martha. What business do you have with us?" that person asked.

The intimidating and sharp voice belonged to a man.

"I apologize for my sudden visit, sir!"

Martha, who was a part of Yater’s group, was on her knees prostrating in front of them.

Just like Yater ordered her, she headed to a certain group of people and relayed his message.

"I’m here on the order of Yater. He told me to deliver the following news to you." she said submissively.

"..." freёwebnoѵel.com

Everyone was listening.

"An angel infiltrated this realm."

In that moment, excitement overcame the others.

"An angel?!"

"This means we have a new mission, right?"

"Who is it?"

"And how were they able to do that?"

"Is it one of the archangels?"

The chaotic chatter was cut off by their leader’s voice.

"Continue."

"Y-yes!" Martha responded.

"Our hideout was attacked by humans and among them, there was a boy, who apparently was an angel. Yater stayed behind to make sure that I could escape and spread the word about it."

"I see."

"At first I was skeptical as I couldn’t sense anything suspicious from that boy."

"What’s Yater’s plan?"

"I-I don’t know... As far as I know, he was facing the angel and a few S-rank humans. However, they were all already beat up so he most likely must be done with them already."

Among the group, someone stood up.

"Hmmm... I can’t seem to connect our minds..."

"Not even your telepathy can reach him?"

"No, it’s not that he can’t reach him."

"As long as he’s in this realm, the telepathy ability can reach him."

"That means that he died, huh?"

Martha abruptly raised her head.

"What? N-no... No, that’s not possible...! We’re talking about Yater, right?"

Martha forced a smile, which was however on the verge of breaking down.

"He was almost on par with the upper echelons amongst the A-rank demons."

"Was it really that angel that defeated him?"

"Well, aside from the Grand Order I can’t see Yater losing, to be honest."

"But still... If it wasn’t an archangel, then what kind of angel was strong enough to accomplish such a feat?"

"Then, let’s find it out, shall we?"

Meanwhile, Martha had a blank gaze. Her smile was nowhere to be found.

"No way..."

"Martha."

"Do you have more information? Especially about that angel."

"Y-yes..." she replied weakly and dejected.

"Connect us to the demon realm. Report everything you heard." the leader commanded the one, who was capable of using telepathy.

"He’s from Loogam. And based on his appearance, he’s a student at that academy." Martha began to explain.

She also went on to describe his outer appearance.

"I see." the leader said again.

"And how is it on your end?" he directed the question to the telepathy person.

"Yes, I just got new information from the other side!"

"Alright. Tell us more."

The person cleared the throat.

"They will relay this to our liege, but it seems like they will make their moves just like planned, regardless of the sudden appearance of an angel."

"Is there more?"

"Yes! They told us to notify the others about this matter and that we should assemble in Loogam at the end of the month."

"Loogam? So are we all targeting the angel now?"

"But what about the liege’s plan?"

"So it’s finally time..."

"I can’t wait for the time to come!"

The other four meddled in again.

"Oh, wait! I’m receiving new information..."

It turned silent.

"Understood... Yes... Yes!"

The person sighed.

"As the angel is most likely a student there, we are ordered to kill him on sight."

"Ha! This is a piece of cake with the numbers we got!"

"How about a little competition to see who can kill the most humans?"

"Oh, I’ll take part in that!"

"Finally we can see the light again..."

Martha was looking at the ground disheartened.

"The end of the month, huh?"

The leader sat down again.

"Haha..." he laughed quietly.

"So the day we demons will make our declaration to the world is near..." he muttered ominously.

Time left until the tournament begins: three weeks.

Current number of demons preparing for that day: seven.
