Chapter 202: Ice Floor
With Lily warming both her and Lisa up with her flames, the two girls continued walking in the direction of the roar they previously heard.
"Are these... monsters...?" Lisa muttered baffled.
On the road were monsters of varying sizes, however, they were all frozen in place.
Lily checked their surroundings only to see that every monster there was completely frozen. Furthermore, it appeared like they were all running away from something in fear based on their frozen expressions.
"Where they perhaps running away from the floor boss...?" Lily pondered.
Then, the roar echoed again. And this time, it sounded like the two were almost at their destination.
"Looks like we have to deal with it on our own..." Lisa said tensely.
Lily nodded her head.
"Yes... I have the feeling that the others are somewhere else..." she stated.
Like the others, they knew about the existence of a floor boss on each floor and that it was a strong enemy.
"...!"
Lisa flinched as it got even colder.
"?"
Lily initially wanted to heat them up more but her flames started to get weaker, too.
And to top it off, it began to snow heavily, making it more difficult for them to see what was in front of them.
But as bad as the overview of their way was, they recognized a vast area, which was surrounded by large and thick icicles, serving as some kind of walls for that area. And in the center of that area was a person.
Lisa and Lily looked each other in the eyes and nodded firmly before they cautiously headed to the area.

As soon as they set foot on the area, where the ground consisted of black ice, the creature that was standing there turned its head to them.
From outside, the creature looked like a middle to old-aged man. It had long silver hair and a long silver beard. The well-toned and very pale upper body was completely naked as it tied the white robe around its hip. It wore white pants and had no shoes on.
The face had many wrinkles but the most eye-catching thing was that it wore white bandages around its head, hiding its eyes.
"I-is that a h-human...?" Lily wondered, shivering not only from the nervousness but also the cold.
It began to walk slowly towards them.
Albeit shakingly, Lisa tried to hold her rapier.
"S-s-stay close to m-me!"
Huddled together, Lily created a fire circle around them, whose flames reached the same height as their heads. However, those flames quickly dispersed.
"!"
The two jumped away from each other when a large icicle was about to pierce them in the middle.
"..."
The assumed floor boss was making its move. It let out a vigorous roar, unfit for its appearance.
"L-Lisa! W-w-we have to go all out f-from the start!" Lily shouted with her jaw trembling.
"G-got it!"
Lisa charged herself and her rapier up with lightning before she shot herself at the boss with the intention of thrusting him with her whole body like a spear. But the boss dodged nonchalantly and was about to counterattack if it was not for Lily, who interfered.
She threw random fire-shaped arrows at it to distract it from Lisa, who in turn, was able to regain her distance.
The boss summoned a thick ice wall from the ground in the brink of a second, blocking each one of her fire arrows without there being a mark left behind on the wall. Even though fire should melt ice, her fire did no damage to the ice wall.
"H-how about this then...?"
On the tip of her rapier, she accumulated a lot of lightning, which formed a small sphere on it. And after retracting her arm and lowering her body a little, she thrust her rapier forward strongly, shooting off a large and tremendous beam.
But again, the boss summoned another wall to fend off the attack.
"Tch...!"
The boss may have not received damage again but this time, Lisa’s attack managed to leave quite a mark behind on the wall as her beam was a few inches away from completely getting through the wall.
"...?"
Then, it turned its head around to Lily after he noticed the presence of a large group. And just like he thought, there was indeed a group. A group of fire-shaped creatures. And each one of them emitted a different kind of pressure.
"G-go!" Lily commanded her creatures, pointing her black wand at it.
Compared to last time, Lily created obviously more fire beings with their number being around 20. But amongst them, she was the proudest of the being that was contrary to the monster-looking ones, a human-shaped being.
While she poured a lot of magic into a creator each day, she experimented one time and tried to covert every last drop of her magic into one being with the result being the human-shaped fire being.
Her other beings were mindlessly trying to attack the boss with physical attacks, which the boss was able to block easily. However, the human-shaped being actually was capable of using fire magic itself, albeit on a low level for now.
Now, with her creations constantly distracting the boss, both Lily and Lisa had the time to charge their attacks up.
Lisa was the first one to attack as she passed by it in a flash, leaving multiple stabs on its body.
There were now a couple of holes in it but no blood or anything of the likes flowed out.
"Dodge, Lisa!"
On her words, Lisa jumped away as Lily let out a wild fire blaze, which was akin to a dragon’s fire breath.
Her creatures were unfazed by the attack but it seemed like the floor boss was almost as unfazed as them as it had only a few light burn marks on its body.
"..."
Its head turned to the two girls again.
"Lisa..."
"Hm?"
She turned her gaze to Lily, who was nervously gritting her teeth.
"Could you distract him from me for one minute...?"
At first, she was baffled but looking at her, Lisa decided to put her trust in Lily.
"I will do my best."
Thus, Lisa got right between Lily and the boss with her rapier pointed at it.
Meanwhile, Lily’s beings slowly pulled back from the scene.
"..."
Lisa took one last deep breath before her firm eyes were glued to the boss.
First, from above lightning struck down.
The boss dodged to the side each time.
However, Lisa charged at him with lightning-enhanced speed, whenever it dodged and left a small scar on its body.
A quiet grumble was heard from the boss as it began to wildly direct its attacks at Lisa. Be it icicles or blocks thrown at her, Lisa managed to evade them.
"Are you done yet?" she shouted at Lily, who was on the other side of her.
"Yes." Lily replied calmly.
"?"
The boss suddenly noticed the danger that was awaiting it.
Lily’s right hand turned into an actual flame, maintaining the shape of a hand roughly. And her creatures, which were at her side, slowly started to shine brightly.
Shortly after that, almost every being of hers turned into a small ball of light and were absorbed by her right hand.
"!"
At that moment, even Lisa sensed Lily’s sudden power-up.
"Just like him..." she muttered in disbelief as an image of Xander crossed her mind.
It was something Lily discovered during her daily training and experiments with her relic.
Her relic enabled her to convert her magic energy into beings that she could control, however, it was possible to do it the other way around. Meaning that she could turn her beings back into her magic energy. And if she did that, then she would receive a temporary power-up and expansion of her magic energy.
Just like now.
In a panic, the boss rushed towards Lily and already summoned a lot of ice, which were shaped randomly and roughly, ready to aim at her.
And yet, Lily remained calm with her focus on her right hand.
"You can do it..." she whispered to herself while drops of sweat rolled down her cheeks.
The flame started to change colors.
Until it turned blue.
"That color...!"
Lisa could not believe her eyes.
And neither could the boss, who was roaring.
Its attacks were coming at Lily, however, everything happened within one moment.
Everything shone brightly in that area until the sound of a large erupting fire echoed over the whole floor.
A pillar of blue fire covered most of the fighting space and touched the floor’s open sky.
After the fire dispersed, Lily’s hand turned back to normal and she fell on her knees due to exhaustion.
There were no traces left of the floor boss.
"I’m tired..." she lamented.
"Amazing, Lily!" Lisa yelled in joy as she rushed to her.
"What was that just now? How were you able to produce blue flames? What kind of training did you do? And..." without giving her a break, Lisa immediately bombarded Lily with questions.
The icy floor beneath them began to crack and the sun was now shining on the floor after being hidden by the grey clouds.
And before Lily could react to Lisa, the two girls suddenly disappeared from there.
