Chapter 180: Palace
It was dark outside when the group finally arrived in Youra, the capital of Grat. However, as it was already late, the group decided to spend one last night in an inn there.
After all, Sara and Yarjak had to inform their mother, the queen of Grat, about the current situation before they could enroll the white class and the other students in the academy in Youra. And besides them, they had to discuss in detail, how they would deal with the normal people.
Now, with the sun rising on the horizon, the Tiam siblings had made their way to the palace, where their mother was. And after a short audience with her, Yarjak and Sara were sent back to the inn to get the people in question.
Their mother, Cylia Tiam, heaved a heavy sigh when her two children disappeared behind the big door across her throne.
Cylia was a woman in her forties and yet she appeared almost as young as her oldest daughter Tija. Her smooth black hair only reached to her chin and her eyes were sharp and fierce. Her lips were bright red and her eyes blue like her children. Like most other women in Grat, Cylia wore revealing clothes, which were easy to move in. And that would be loose white pants and only a black top, covering only her voluptuous chest. On top of that, she wore various golden decorations on her body, like bracelets on her wrists and ankles.
It did not help her image as a queen as she sat cross-legged on her throne with her people watching her. But surprisingly it did not bother anyone.
"So? What brings you here? I thought you were in Fyuna, Tija." Cylia said sharply with one elbow resting on the throne’s armrest.
"Do I need a reason to spend time with my dear siblings?" Tija replied with a smile as she was still prostrating.
Cylia sighed again.
"Lift your head." she said tiredly.
Cylia appeared to everyone more tired than usual.
However, that was just a normal reaction of a caring mother, who just had to hear about two of her children having been involved in a fierce battle against monsters and demons. Furthermore, it was on a scale, which she never had heard of before. But seeing that her children are still well, she had nothing to say anymore. Even to the fact that those two agreed on an exchange program and to take in other people, she did not say much.
With a size as big as Grat, taking in a few groups of people would not pose a problem.
"..."
She stared shortly at the now standing and still smiling Tija before she signaled all the guards and retainers to leave these two alone for a moment.
Everyone caught up on that and in just a few moments, the hall was empty.
"What do you have to report?" Cylia asked.
This time, she had a sterner tone as she leaned forward on her throne.
"..."
Even Tija turned stern and formal, straightening her composure.
"The people from the north have taken over a few more cities near the border." Tija stated.
"That doesn’t surprise me. Anything else?"
"Yes. It seems like they’re planning to march deeper into the south."
"So it won’t be long until they will arrive here, huh?"
"Yes."
"Alright, thanks for the report. I will take measures soon."
Tija bowed her head slightly.
It was a secret between these two.
No one else, not even her siblings knew that Tija was secretively working for her mother by gathering information about the northern people’s movement.
"We’re back!" Sara announced loudly, kicking the doors violently open.
The two flinched extremely upon her arrival.
"For crying out loud... Can’t you come in normally...?" Tija muttered, shaking her head.
"Just from whom did she get that trait...?" Cylia wondered dumbfoundedly.
With her, Mika and the others arrived.
"That was fast." Cylia commented, still trying to calm her heart down from Sara’s surprise.
"Well, we told them to wait outside the palace while Yarjak, Tija and I were talking with you." Sara replied innocently.
When the people walked to the center of the hall, they got on their knees to greet the queen.
"You can lift your heads. I was already informed about your situation."
Cylia got her act together as she talked with the people from Loogam.
"I will immediately see to it that all of you get a place here temporarily. And things will be taken care of soon to make you students enroll in our academy." she declared clearly.
"I hope you enjoy your stay here and if there’s anything that bothers you, you are free to seek my and my children’s help." she added with a slight smile.
She understood what especially, the normal people from Loogam had to go through, thus, she wanted to do everything in her power to ensure that they lived a good life here in Grat.
"With that being said, you can leave for today. I will send somebody to you later, who will give you more information about the future."
Everyone tactfully left the throne hall without making noise. Only Elsa stood behind. And with the doors closing, it was only the royal family and Elsa in there.
"May I ask if you have made up your mind yet, Elsa?" Cylia asked. freewёbnoνel.com
Elsa took off her robe.
"If it’s truly coming to a civil war, what position will you take? Will you fight with or against us?" Cylia continued throwing one question after another at Elsa while her children remained silent at her side.
"I will decide that impulsively, I suppose." Elsa responded uninterested.
Cylia sighed.
"Why is everyone making me sigh so often today...?" she murmured frustratedly.
"Well, we will leave it at that for now..." she added, waving her hand to shoo her away.
"Hm? Already? Fine by me though..." Elsa said slightly surprised before she headed to the doors.
Elsa worked for the royal family for a long time already, making her feel like a real older sister to Sara and Yarjak, however, she was a part of the northern part of Grat. That made the whole thing more complicated as Elsa had to decide whose side she wanted to take in case of a conflict. The side of her real family or the side of the royal family, whom she got to know for almost as long as her real family, with whom she was rarely in contact.
"Is it really okay to let her go like this?" Yarjak asked.
"Of course not." Cylia replied bluntly.
"But as a person, I don’t like forcing her to fight against her own family..." she added.
"..."
Nobody seemed to notice it but Tija let out a small sigh.
"Anyways, can I trust you to take care of the students, Yarjak?"
"Yes, Mother."
"Why aren’t you asking me, Mom? I can do that, too!" Sara complained like a child.
"Did you forget? Your brother is the student council president. If I were to leave them in your hands, then who knows what will happen to them." her mother explained.
"Ugh... True..." Sara agreed reluctantly.
The academy of Youra had a different class system than Loogam, where a student gets into a specific class based on the student’s worth.
Here, there was no hierarchy between the classes as each class specialized in a different field. For example, there was a class for those, who wanted to specialize in weapon combat, hand-to-hand combat or magic combat. There were also classes for people, who did not rely on magic or who did not even have magic. And unlike Loogam, there were no real entrance exams.
"Let’s go, Sara. Help me sort the students from Loogam to the classes in Youra." Yarjak said as he headed outside.
"Fine~" Sara replied annoyed.
The two said their goodbyes to their older sister and mother before they, too, left the palace.
But to their surprise, the two siblings found themselves in front of a large crowd, which was gasping in shock.
"What’s happening there?" Yarjak asked a guard, who was stationed in front of the palace.
Meanwhile, Sara was jumping up and down in order to get a view.
"Well, it seems like..." the guard started to whisper into Yarjak’s ear. freёwebnovel.com
"!"
And the moment he widened his eyes, Yarjak grabbed Sara’s wrist and forced themselves through the mass of people.
"Excuse me..."
"Sorry, my friends are there..."
"Can I please get through...?"
And after a while, Yarjak finally managed to arrive at the scene, which was capturing everyone’s attention.
"Good grief..."
Yarjak palmed his face.
"Mika, stop it!" Lily shouted concerned.
"H-how dare you do this to me...?!" a boy their age yelled irritated while being on the ground with a bloody nose.
"Maybe I should knock you out for good." Mika muttered menacingly as he stared the boy down.
From everyone’s perspective, it appeared like Mika was beating up a student from Youra.
