Chapter 703: The Record of Members
Chapter 702: The Record of Members
Orion paused, his jaw tightening slightly as he considered Mary’s words. The room waited, the weight of her question pressing against the silence.
"That is true," he said finally.
Sophia nodded beside him. "Selene even told me to continue seeking information. To seek the truth."
Eldric adjusted his glasses, his gaze sharpening with interest. "Do you still have the translations from the altar?"
Sophia nodded. "Yes. I kept them safe too."
Eldric exchanged a glance with Madam Tyler, then looked back at Sophia.
"Then you, Madam Tyler, and I will continue trying to get information from them," he said. "We cannot afford to ignore any potential advantage, not with what is coming."
Sophia agreed. "I would like that."
Orion leaned back slightly, his expression thoughtful.
"That is not the only thing you need to focus on, Eldric."
Eldric’s brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"
Orion held his gaze. "I need you to document the real history of this pack."
The room quieted further.
"The real history?" Eldric repeated.
Orion nodded. "Make it known. Every member of this pack deserves to know where they came from. The truth about Dolion. About Kaelith. About how the Nightshade Pack came to be."
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle.
"We have a duty to let everyone know. Not just the council. Not just the elders. Everyone."
Eldric was silent for a moment, then nodded slowly.
"That will take time."
"Then start now," Orion said. "We may not have much of it. I want it to be known so people can also understand this fight goes far beyond us from twenty years ago, but even more."
Eldric adjusted his glasses again, a new determination settling into his expression.
"I will begin immediately."
Orion turned his attention to the rest of the room.
"There is also the matter of the traitor. We need to be on the lookout. Sophia, if you see him—"
"I will let you know," she finished. "Immediately."
Orion held her gaze for a moment, then nodded.
Ronan shifted.
"There is something I have been meaning to ask," he said.
Daniel looked at him. "What is it?"
Ronan hesitated, then spoke. "Can I inform Annabeth?"
Daniel’s brow furrowed. "Why?"
"Because she knows her people best," Ronan said. "The Silver Creek pack now lives with us, but people still do not know them. Not really. Not the way Annabeth does. If anyone could help us identify someone out of place among them, it would be her."
Daniel considered this for a moment, his expression unreadable.
"Are you so certain Annabeth would not tell her people?"
Ronan paused.
The question landed heavier than he had expected. freeweɓnovel.cøm
He opened his mouth, then closed it again. His fingers stopped tapping.
"That is a reasonable question," he admitted after a moment. "I did not think of that."
He exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck.
"It is better she does not know. At least not yet. But I can observe her people. Watch for anything unusual. Annabeth does not need to be involved for me to do that."
Daniel nodded slowly. "That is wiser, son."
Ronan chuckled as he nodded.
Brynhild spoke then, her voice cutting through the lingering tension.
"Why don’t we do something like what we did when we first came to Nirvana?"
Everyone turned to her.
Brynhild tilted her head slightly, her eyes unfocused but aware.
"Everyone was taken into record. Every face. Every name. Every person in the pack when we first moved here."
Ronan’s eyes lit up. "That is actually a good idea."
Madam Tyler nodded slowly. "It would be a way to track who is who."
Lysander leaned forward. "It could help us identify the traitor without raising suspicion."
Sophia looked between them, confusion creasing her brow.
"I do not understand," she said. "What exactly are you all talking about?"
Orion turned to her, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
"It is like a census," he explained. "A record to keep track of pack members. Every person who is born into the pack is already recorded now, though since they are the main new additions to the pack... But when we first came to Nirvana, we did it to keep account of everyone who survived the journey and well, it was also like a way to reassure ourselves that we were stronger than we thought we were."
He paused.
"We do not do it these days except, like I said before, when a child is born. But now we have new members. Many of them. The Silver Creek pack. The refugees from the black market."
Tobias nodded. "It would only work for those people, though. Not the original members of the pack."
"But it will help us narrow it down," Ronan said.
Lysander spoke then, his voice calm and measured.
"Sophia should be there."
Everyone looked at him.
"She is the Luna," Lysander said simply. "We can use that as a reason for her to oversee the process. No one would question it. And while she is there, she can watch. Look for the traitor’s face."
Mary nodded. "Yes, and since she works in the library as well, that is where the records are kept. It would make perfect sense for her to be involved."
Sophia considered this, turning it over in her mind.
It was not a bad plan.
It was actually quite clever.
She would have a reason to be there. A reason to look at every face. A reason to study the newcomers without raising suspicion.
And if she saw him, the man from her vision, she would quietly let them know.
She nodded slowly.
"That is quite a good plan," she said.
Orion watched her for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then he shifted, turning to face her more fully.
"There is something else," he said.
Sophia frowned. "What?"
"The court that was placed on hold. We have to finish it, though there will be little opposition since they all saw you have the vision, we must give them an explanation. Are you up for it one more time?" he asked her.
