Chapter 95: Cruel Methods

Lydia spluttered, her brown eyes opening blearily before they focused on the three people in front of her. A snarl formed on her face, but before she could actually speak, her body finally registered the predicament she found herself in. With her revealing clothes, there was a lot of exposed skin for the chains to dig into, causing her to wince and hiss in pain. She couldn’t even move her arms, since they were buried in the soil.

If she shifted, the chains would dig harder into her, and dirt would be rubbed on her skin, further exacerbating her wounds.

I had to admit there was a certain elegance in the cruelty of such a torture method. I didn’t want Lydia to die, but I certainly could not make it easy for her to escape. She had endangered Blaise’s life once, and that was enough.

Deep down, I was also quite upset at her attempted seduction of Blaise. I had never thought myself to be a possessive person, but then again, I never had anything someone else would covet so badly that they would attempt to steal from me.

"Lydia, stop moving," I cautioned, "You’ll make things worse."

"You did this to me?" Lydia demanded, her eyes flashing with anger. "Harper, I can’t believe you! You’re picking them over me?" freewebnøvel.coɱ

Before I could argue with her accusation, Blaise began to speak.

"Excuse me, I don’t believe you have the right to feel offended," Blaise said blithely, putting his hand on her head and tilting it far enough he nearly snapped it clean off her neck.

I winced; that position was highly painful indeed. Lydia’s eyes widened and they frantically darted around, looking for support.

Of course, there was only me.

"Harper, how can you side with them?" Lydia screamed, "These men murdered nearly everyone we knew! Now you’re happy just playing house with them? Spreading your legs for both of them like a common whore―"

Blaise kicked her in the head, causing her to wheeze in pain. But the words she had spat out with anger had hit home, raising welts on my metaphorical skin like how Lydia’s skin was burning from the silver.

Blaise and Damon had razed Stormclaw to the ground. While I had no love left for them, that could not be said for Lydia. I was her best friend, but she also got along with other pack members, despite being an orphan. She also had a wolf, so she wasn’t outcasted and bullied the same way I was.

I could not fault Lydia’s want to take revenge, nor could I blame Damon and Blaise for protecting their pack.

Lydia let out a mocking laugh. "Oh, go and hit me again then, Blaise of Fangborne. Look at me, all tied up and planted in the soil like a body before its time, chained with silver. Does it make you feel big? Honorable? Does it make you feel accomplished that you’ve managed to land a hit on a defenseless opponent?"

"I have no honor to begin with," Blaise said, Lydia’s taunts landing harmlessly around him as he hit her again.

I saw Lydia flinch from the blow, but she didn’t cry out. Instead, she glared at him with the intensity of a thousand suns. Gone was the simpering, seductive maiden from before― the Lydia in front of me now was filled with potent rage, something I had caught glimpses of whenever Aubrey had gone too far in her bullying.

I bit my lip as I continued to watch Blaise interrogate her about her part in the betrayal. By right, I should be on Blaise’s side. He was my fated mate, and I could never live with his loss. If I softened my heart now, I would end up in further despair later on.

Yet, my heart was in turmoil. I should be supporting Blaise, but I couldn’t deny that Lydia’s words struck a chord. I had often been in her current position; helpless and weak while others kicked me down. It was difficult to see it happen to Lydia, who was an hour ago, technically my only family.

How easy it would have been for me to be in Lydia’s position. If only I wasn’t their fated mate, and I had a powerful wolf... would I have plotted to destroy Fangborne in retaliation for their actions against Stormclaw?

If that were the case, Damon and Blaise would deal with me just as cruelly. That was a sobering realization that highlighted what I had nearly forgotten about their characters.

Forget revenge― I might not have lived past the first attack.

"Lydia Johnson, since Harper still has some lingering feelings of friendship for you, let me give you a word of warning while I’m still being kind," Damon growled out, his voice colder than any winter I had experienced. "If you do not confess to your crimes, we’ll gladly find another use for that useless mouth of yours."

Lydia bared her teeth. "Do you think I’m still gonna suck your dick like before? You’d best hope I don’t bite it off!"

Oh. But of course. Lydia was part of Damon’s harem, so clearly they must have spent at least a night together. Perhaps even many nights, especially after I had found Blaise. Jealousy and possessiveness reared their ugly heads in my heart, but I sucked in a breath, trying to remain calm.

Blaise was my chosen fated mate. Damon could fuck whoever he wants. I shouldn’t care, especially since Lydia must have been sleeping with him not out of any affection, but for a chance to harm him. fгeewebnovёl.com

Lydia was trying to taunt all of us, and it was working a little too well. Damon had stomped ahead and brutally kicked her again, causing her to nearly pass out. Lydia’s eyes rolled backward, and all I could hear was the soft pained wheeze that escaped her lips.

Blaise tsked. "Damon, if she faints, we’ll have to get more water."

Damon shrugged casually. "I did it the previous time. It would be your turn anyway."

"Harper, so these are the men you have chosen to support?" Lydia choked out a mouthful of blood. "Men that threaten to fuck me as punishment? You disappoint me."
