Chapter 89: Reunited I
"Blaise!" I wailed, wrapping my arms around him so tightly I resembled an octopus more than a human.
He returned my hug just as tightly, pressing his face into the crook of my neck as he rubbed circles around the small of my back. I buried my nose into his neck, inhaling his potent scent greedily.
"I missed you, I missed you so much..." I babbled, my voice wet with tears.
Who cared if Damon thought I was a pathetic vacuum cleaner?
Blaise was right here in front of me. I thought I had lost him for good.
"Harper. You’re here," he whispered, his voice filled with wonder as he gazed down at me in his arms.
He stroked the soft skin of my cheek tenderly and kissed me like I was the only thing good left in his life. I returned the kiss with equal fervor, looping my hands around his neck to pull him closer to me, feeling his warmth on my skin. Desired bubbled within me, but gratitude was the stronger emotion. I was so thankful to the Moon Goddess for ensuring that Blaise was alive. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Unfortunately, the need for air meant that our lips had to part eventually.
That didn’t stop me from fussing over him. I cradled his face in my hands, as though he was a precious artifact that would shatter from a single mistake.
"Are you alright? Are you hurt?" I demanded, firing my questions without pause.
My eyes frantically roved over his naked body, trying to see if he was seriously hurt. Currently, there were a few nasty scrapes and blackening bruises all over his body, but my eyes were automatically drawn to a large cut on the left side of his belly.
"What happened here?!" I nearly screamed in worry, immediately reaching into my rucksack to pull out my makeshift first aid kit. That wound needed disinfecting and bandaging before it got infected. Blaise merely chuckled indulgently, grabbing my hands to stop me.
"It’s just a flesh wound, Harper. There’s nothing you need to worry about," Blaise said reassuringly. "I heal quickly, remember? These pesky vampires can’t do any real damage to me."
"All wounds are technically flesh wounds since you are made of flesh, so what nonsense are you talking about?" I retorted, "Don’t take unnecessary risks! You nearly gave me a heart attack when I got the news that you were injured!"
"Yes, dear," Blaise nodded agreeably, "I’ll listen to whatever you say since you came all this way to look for me." His eyes softened as he caught sight of the sparkle on my wrist, the blue sheen of the moonstone visible from afar. "And you’re even wearing my bracelet on your wrist."
"Where else was I supposed to wear it? On my head?" I snorted.
"I don’t know, I think it would look amazing if you threaded it between your nostrils," Blaise said with mock seriousness.
"Might as well tear apart these jewels and embed them in my teeth then." My lips widened into a smile to show off my even teeth. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"You’ll think of me during every meal." Blaise’s lips stretched into a bigger smile, and the both of us began to giggle at the mental image. It was utterly juvenile, and others might deem it lame, but I was so overjoyed with relief at Blaise’s presence that I would laugh at the stupidest things if I could hear Blaise’s laughter alongside my own.
"What happened here, Blaise?" Damon’s voice interrupted our happy laughter. He sounded none too happy about our foolish banter. "How could you get hurt so easily and make me come out all the way here to clean up your mess??"
I jumped in surprise; I was so preoccupied with Blaise’s reappearance that I had practically forgotten about Damon’s existence.
"He got hurt doing your dirty work, can’t you show some concern for him?" I bristled, upset at Damon’s implication that Blaise was negligent in his duty to the pack.
"If he can crack terrible jokes, he is more than fine," Damon retorted simply, turning back to interrogate Blaise. "I’m more interested to know how your plans could have gone awry so soon. They were meant to be foolproof!"
"Well, as you can see, dear brother, they are not," Blaise replied blithely. "I’ll let you know more once we arrive back at base camp."
"After you get your wound checked out," I added.
"Yes, after that."
Damon growled, but he was forced to concede. Both of them transformed into werewolves, and I eagerly hoped on Blaise’s back as we rode off. The base camp wasn’t too far off― compared to the long journey we took to get here, it was practically a stone’s throw away. Their base camp was a series of log cabins tucked in the midst of the woods.
Damon transformed back into his human form and held a hand out to me, wordlessly demanding clothes. I rolled my eyes and got off Blaise to hand him his outfit. He put it on and stormed into one of the log cabins. Clearly, this wasn’t his first time here.
Meanwhile, Blaise had transformed back into his nude male form. I wanted to hand him some of Damon’s clothes but he shook his head.
"It’s fine, I can get changed later. I have clothes back in my cabin."
"But―"
"Besides, this will be a great opportunity to remind you what you’ve missed," Blaise said cheekily. "And I don’t want to share any more things with Damon. Sharing you was hard enough... If I take his clothes too, I’ll really feel like I’m losing you to Damon."
His eyes had a faint sheen of hurt in them, even as his mouth continued to smile. Oh god.
My face paled. There was no opportunity to get a shower to rinse away Damon’s scent from my body. Blaise definitely smelled our combined scents when we hugged earlier. Maybe he could even smell Damon inside me. Just the very thought made me want to find the nearest stream and throw myself inside.
